    Btw for anyone wondering :
    Hard water -> Lots of minerals, will leave these minerals behind when evaporating, and they can clog things, so not a good idea to use in irons, humidifiers, and certain medical devices. Will leave big ol' stains on dishes if let to dry.
    Soft water -> Few minerals, not going to leave much behind. Not always as ideal as distilled or demineralised water for irons, humidifiers, and medical devices, but still much better than hard water.
    I guess it does also have an effect on taste, but idk the difference personally.
    Also, you laughing about the raw milk, but it's an actual thing. Milk is normally pasteurised, i.e. heated at a certain temperature to kill as many bacteria as possible. Raw milk is unpasteurised milk. I have no idea what the benefit of unpasteurised milk is supposed to be, though.
    Edit : Thanks for all the responses, I recommend anyone to read them, they're very interesting.

It's shit how people fall for this shit. The reason you taste a difference is because they don't all get the tap water from the same source, some from say a city in texas, another a city in maine, another a city in Oregon, etc... so ya, enjoy that fact.

    The raw milk thing is actually interesting. I work on a dairy farm so I’ve been drinking raw milk my whole life. Milk bought in a store is pasteurized. Essentially it’s warmed up to slightly below boiling for a period of time to kill the remaining bacteria. This ensures that the milk lasts longer at the store and in your fridge. Raw milk still has the leftover bacteria and therefore spoils much faster. The milk I drink usually goes bad within 4-5 days.
    Now why would you drink raw milk then? Well pasteurization also kills off a lot of natural enzymes found in milk that actually help you digest it. You kill off the bad stuff, and the good stuff as well. I may be wrong, but I think I remember seeing that a study had shown that people who are lactose intolerant have an easier time digesting raw milk due to the enzymes found in it. Raw milk also tends to have a high fat content at about 4.25%, though that percentage fluctuates based on the herd and cattle the milk is coming from
    And a final note, some cheeses need raw milk to be made. The natural bacteria in raw milk contribute to the cheese making process

    • @Goldenkitten1
      @Goldenkitten1 Před 2 lety +11

      A lot of the ones talking about ph levels are talking about having LOW ph levels. The whole "We have low/high ph levels" seems like a sales gimmick and for normal people it typically is.
      However it can have some medical benefits. For instance I had recurring uric acid kidney stones and beyond reducing certain foods in my diet, drinking low ph water was something that I kept having to do due to them being recurring we had to do everything to lower my bodies ph levels.
      So yeah, there are genuine reasons to take lower or higher alkaline water but when it comes to just everyday people not having issues it's a gimmick to make the buy.

    I'm not an expert in the field or anything but if anyone is wondering what the thing was about them selling raw milk here's a brief summary. regular milk is put through several processes to make it more uniform in consistency (homogenisation), safe(pasteurisation) and palatable. if you go to the supermarket there is already several different types of milk available, regular whole milk, skimmed and semi skimmed(reduced fat content), organic long life and filtered to name a few that come to mind. raw milk in this context is simply milk that hasn't gone through any processes and is entirely natural. that's not to say its good though, without the pasteurisation process milk contains a lot of germs and stuff that if you are not used too can make you very sick. the germs also speed up the rotting process causing it to go off way quicker that it would if it had been pasteurised. the homogenisation process is designed to bind all the different elements of the milk together and prevent separation, when stored in the fridge. I'm old enough to remember when this wasn't normal in the UK and I remember the milkman delivering milk in the morning that had already started to separate giving you a thicker layer of milk almost like cream at the top of the bottle. as an aside it's where phrases like the cream of the crop comes from, the top bit was the best bit. raw milk may therefore be more natural, which is likely why rich LA millennials think it's a good thing, but it is most assuredly worse and may not even be entirely safe for consumption, a lot of us states and countries around the world even have laws limiting/banning it's sale.

      Yeah, I can see a culinary reason for raw milk, say for cheesemaking or making yoghurt or the like, just not a direct health reason.
      Same with the alkaline water trend, a neutral tasting safe to consume alkaline solution can be an amazing tool in the kitchen; for example an alkaline solution would help onions caramelize faster, which is a real issue if you're making French onion soup, or if you want to boil pasta noodles into gaining the flavor and consistency of ramen noodles (which are typically made with sodium bicarbonate). However the health reasons are.... sheesh they're mostly complete bullshit beyond the normal benefits of drinking any kind of potable water (short of super distilled water, which isn't ideal to survive off of).

    So just in case you actually wanted to know, Joey. Hard water has excess levels of magnesium and calcium, its responsible for a lot of buildup on showerheads and water spots on your dishes. It also doesn't work as well to wash with because it doesn't create a foam or lather like water that has been run through a softening system does, so for example you wash your hands and kind of end up feeling like there's a film left behind.
