  • Join me as I dive into a detailed comparison of two luxury SUVs - the all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 and the 2024 Volvo XC90. We’ll explore everything from their origins to pricing, performance, and dimensions.
Here's what I've cooked up for you in this video:
    00:00 Introduction
00:41 Volvo XC90 vs Mazda CX-90: Key Specs and Info
01:42 Volvo XC90 vs Mazda CX-90: Canadian Pricing in 2024
02:21 Volvo XC90 vs Mazda CX-90: How do They Compare on Size?
03:37 Volvo XC90 Infotainment and Back Up Camera Graphics Demonstration
04:52 Volvo XC90 vs Mazda CX-90: How do They Compare on Cargo Space?
06:17 Volvo XC90 vs Mazda CX-90: Which is Roomiest?
08:44 Volvo XC90 vs Mazda CX-90: Performance and Efficiency
11:24 Volvo XC90 vs Mazda CX-90: Which One Would I Buy?
The Mazda CX-90, a Japanese marvel, is the largest and most expensive model in the Mazda lineup, making its debut in 2024. On the other hand, the Volvo XC90, a Swedish beauty, has been on the road since 2003 and is now in its second generation.
Both SUVs boast three rows, hybrid engines, and all-wheel drive. But how do they stack up in terms of pricing, space, and performance? And does the Volvo’s higher price tag translate into more value?
We’ll also delve into the nitty-gritty of their dimensions - length, width, height, and even ground clearance. And let’s not forget about cargo space and interior volume. You might be surprised to find out which SUV offers more room despite its physical size.
Under the hood, we’ll compare the engines of both SUVs, from the 2-litre four-cylinder hybrid engine of the Volvo XC90 to the 3.3 litre straight six turbo engine of the Mazda CX-90. Both machines also offer a plug-in hybrid option. But which one is faster? And which one is more fuel-efficient?
Towing capacity, fuel consumption, and even the cost of gas are all factors we’ll consider. And if you’re curious about how plug-in hybrids work, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
Ultimately, it’s a tough choice between the Volvo XC90 and the Mazda CX-90. But for my money, I’d go with the Mazda CX-90. It offers more of what I like at a price point that’s hard to beat.
So, buckle up and prepare for an exciting ride as we I pit the metrics of these two luxury SUVs against each other. And don’t forget to subscribe to my CZcams channel for more car comparisons and reviews!

If you're comparing these 2 vehicles. why not do a base trim for volvo($71,550) and the highest trim for mazda($63,300) given the closer price point.

Good feedback. Thanks, main idea. I wanted to give shoppers here was the size dimensions, power and fuel costs more than the individual differences between specific trim grades.
But I'll definitely keep that in mind for future videos.
When I do these comparisons, I'm hoping that the analysis of all the metrics and specs helps the shopper determine which vehicle will make the best use of their dollars.
      (Trim grades aside)

@@JustinPritchard It's a luxury vs a regular maker. If people have the money 70k budget for a vehicle, why would they even consider the Volvo if they can get it everything in the Mazda top trim for less.

@@versari5922there are numerous reasons, not all shoppers have price as a priority.
Others prefer not to buy a first year model like the Mazda.
Others may find the Mazda too common where they live and prefer something a little more exclusive and go with the Volvo.
      List goes on.

You can find used Volvos in my area in competitive pricing to a new Mazda, which is what puts both of these on our shopping list. It’s interesting to see Volvo pricing used vehicles at the kind of lowered rate you might expect while more moderately priced brands are still pricing used cars nearly as high as new models. Thank you for the comparison!

PHEVs in the winter are simply a joke. Since the PHEVs have pretty much the same battery issues like the regular EVs, the gas mileage when that battery charge takes a toll and is being cut in half or more. is the same as a non PHEV or even higher as it has to haul around the extra weight of the battery. Since the PHEVs batteries are small it doesn't take much to run them down on a trip leaving the cars just with the ol' gas engine. What is frustrating is that some brands (not sure if the 2 cars tested have this issue) will not even allow you to turn the EV mode on when it's too cold just to protect the battery.Mazda for exemple doe not have a heat pump, not sure about Volvo.Unless you are fortunate enough to have a heated garage then you are pretty much running full time the gas engine which then would defy the whole purpose of having spent a lot more on a PHEV hoping to save gas

Are you a PHEV expert? Because I am, and everything you just said is incorrect.

@@JustinPritchard Sir I am not looking to pick a fight with your or with anyone. With all due respect you are just a journalist(a respectable one I may add) who writes about cars and maybe has occasional meetings with the manufacturers' representatives during the press conferences. That doesn't make you a PHEV expert. Unless you have a university degree in engineering. It does give you maybe a better insight than most of the folks have. The PHEVs flaws are real(especially with Mazda's and especially in winter).Does it make the cars bad? don't think so but the extra $ one should pay is not justifiable given the current state of the PHEV technology which coincidentally aligns (more or less) with the EV technology since they share a portion of the EV technology. Of course based on the individual use case this may suit certain people but for the majority is just an illusion of saving gas.The only manufacturer who has a good PHEV system is Toyota(in the Prius) but they have perfected it in years. I'm hoping to see Mazda to refine theirs in the next iterations of this model an maybe be on par with Toyota's but for now the CX90 PHEV seems to be just an experiment (an expensive one)
