- Today's video is a local fish store tour in Washington, D.C., where we highlight a 500 gallon cichlid tank, some beautiful cichlid stocking options, and some rare fish. The fish store is Nova Tropicals in Dale City, VA, just outside of DC. We really enjoyed seeing the amount of cichlids available, as well as a clean and well managed store. From our first two DC episodes, we followed Mike to his local store. We loved seeing all of the different cichlid tanks, but even more - we enjoyed getting to know Mike and sharing his inspiring story. In our previous video, we discussed, how the aquarium hobby saved his life. Like many other first responders or service members, Mike dealt with combat issues, PTSD, and trauma, and his fish room and aquariums gave him a valuable outlet and positive hobby to improve his well being and mental health. Our favorite LFS. A few of the fish in the 500 came from me. Dave the owner rehomed 19 cichlids from me for store credit, he's an awesome guy and I came home with a 210gal tank. John and Lisa, KGTropicals, turned us on to Dave and his great store.

Centreville Aquarium is my go to LFS being so close to I-66 and if you're north of DC you have to hit up House of Tropicals fo sho!

I have a Question I have a 75 gallon chilids tank and a 20 gallon! I'm going away for 3 days do I need to buy a automatic feeder and if so are there any you recommend? Thank you so much
I usually wouldn’t worry about feeding them, but if you want an auto feeder - I like the one from aquarium co op or Eheim

Get some tiny fishes and put them in the tank before you leave, the cichlids will hunt them when hungry, when you return home if you don't see any tinies then you know why, if you see some remaining they mastered the art of survival and you should keep them...😂
