it's a new song, it's directly followed by no love in LA, also , the raspiness is kinda just his voice, i'm sure he'S adding more, but his voice in general is very grainy, that mural is in Emerson's (the drummer) living room

My guess is the song is just commentary about being in the public eye, how "fans" will build you up and then bring you down when you make a single mistake, how you have to watch every single step you take and how all your relationships are scrutinized and judged.
I agree. Especially seeing the part about the Bastards in the music video, I think this is primarily about how the fanbase treats the band, or even Rem in particular.

The song is about artist x fan relationship. There are soo many people that will cheer you on, only to turn on you at the first opportunity (a lot of the time the argument boils down to "well LA is not a real-world so you are wrong"), people will treat you like shit; attack you, your friends, girlfriends, etc. but will expect you to do everything and anything for them in return... this could go on.
I guess that every group/fandom has few rotten apples, but it really pains me with them, because they are genuinely the sweetest guys I've met (as far as bands or whatnot goes), and as much as I don't agree with some of their choices... it's not my place. Really my only beef is with Emerson for not getting my genius Pokemon joke...
But no matter how many times people are told things like this (they wrote a song, Waterparks have a whole album about fandom crap), some will never get it.
