Well I am a retired Coast Guard gunners mate, and current federal LEO. And I can say that is probably ships sop, not CG wide. On my ships all 5 I served on, you loaded individually at a clearing station. And for the Record, CG firearms training is far superior to LE firearms training. I have done both. And the Coasties have a lot fewer accidental discharges. I investigated 1 in my entire CG career. And I have seen HMM lets see 5 in my 22 years in LE. Go figure.

I was a photographer in the U.S. Navy at MSC (Military Sealift Command) Oakland, and all of our ships were designated U.S.N.S. (United States Naval Ship). We had spy ships, missile tracking ships, hospital ships etc. Most had a skeleton crew of U.S. Navy and the rest were civilian. Most of the time I wore civilian clothes and my supervisor was a civilian.

In the beginning of the video they claimed they had the permission to board it because it was an unstated vessel. At the end of the video they said they asked him for a consensual. Which is it? Do they have all rights and powers to board the vessel or do they need to ask the boat owner/captain to be allowed onto their vessel?
The answer should be "No, I do not consent."
Which then means to the CG that you must be a criminal or are about to commit a criminal offense and then they will muscle their way onto your vessel and look for any reason they can find to make you a criminal.
When people say, "Well, I don't have anything to hide." or "I'm not doing anything wrong." It is not whether you have anything to hide, the question is do you have anything to protect? Like, maybe your rights. If you don't stand for your rights they can't stand on their own and will be taken away from you in an instant.
It is a wooden boat with some vegetables so they can make a meager living. The CG said they knew there were only 4 people on the boat as they could see them all. They knew it wasn't running illegals.

There is a huge difference between can and should.
Legally they CAN board that vessel.
    But
They can see the entire vessel without boarding it, well enough to know no laws are being broken.
They shouldn't have boarded the vessel. The only reason they did is because they can.
This is why the navy makes fun of the Coast Guard and many civilians think they are assholes.

Just a few facts for them Navy boys to choke down. Coast Guard spends more days underway per year than they do. Coast guard sails all over the world and the deepest waters just as they do. Coast Guard doesn't just protect US coast lines, but the Navy while they're in they're also in port. Coast Guard doesn't have the amenities as the Navy when it comes to being underway (so being underway aboard a CG cutter doesn't feel like vacation from home)...hope you enjoy your internet and Netflix connectivity. Coast Guard is held to much higher standards & scores than the Navy...Fact!! You will NEVER see prior service Coasties enlist in the Navy. You will always see prior service Navy vets joining the Coast guard...and the next time you see a good looking Navy brat, thank a Coastie.

admiralty law that's why. It is done all the time and yes even by other nations that actually bother patrolling as well. You may even be surprised at other nations the USCG teaches to do the same thing. Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, heck even China and many others all do not want criminals, unsafe vessels, and poor working conditions of crew by having outdated or even NO lifesaving equipment or properly working equipment in the waterways. Inspections is the way to ensure that.

Please stop making comment that you know nothing about. I was in the U. S. Coast Guard, and I was stationed on the same class of cutter as the one in this video. We do not carry on our own cutter like I said so there is no chance for an accidental discharge. If you bothered to read my comment instead of just being an ass, you would see that I explained that we are issued our weapons when preparing to board another vessel. We did not have anyone calling out commands because if we were qualified to carry weapons, and to be a boarding team member, we also knew how to load our weapons safely. If they didn't, they should not be qualified. Treating fully qualified members like these is demoralizing, and belittles all the training they've recieved. You need to trust your crew, or you shouldn't be a part of it.

PITPITPIT I think you’re the one who doesn’t understand, not the Americans. According to International Law and numerous treaties, any nation has the legal authority and legal right to stop any vessel that does not fly a flag. It has nothing to do with being armed or “might makes right,” it has to do with mutually agreed upon international treaties and laws.
If you don’t fly a flag, you can get stopped at any time by any nation’s forces, be those forces American, Canadian, Cuban, French, Spanish, Japanese, or whomever. Educate yourself.
