  • “For the longest time, the gender critical stuff was very much the domain of Great Britain.”
    Despite the culture wars gaining traction in the United States, politicians like Ron DeSantis ‘won’t win’ if they base their entire campaign on those issues, says journalist Jon Ronson.

      Agreed. He is so good at his job - and surprisingly forgiving of those who condemn him. He's spot on about so many things that are wrong with the modern world.

    I live in a red state and I've tried to explain to conservatives, when you get laid off because job security is a joke and you constantly have the threat of being replaced by cheap labor over your head, you don't give a damn about 2 men going into a civil court and getting a marriage license.

    Love this guy! One of my all time favorite writers. His story about miming eating soup at an obnoxious kid is a classic Ronson moment.

    I'm trans. Graham is dangerous and ill informed. He has no need to speak on trans matters when it has no relation to who he is. He is vile in how he conducts himself and doesn't try to have any compassion. Due to this, I really don't wish to know how he got to where he got to, as it still isn't make it justified. He needs to be kinder and accept he doesn't need to think he has a valid view on everything, nobody does.

    Social Media didn't make people terrible...it just allowed them to say in public (anonymously) what they really thought and/or their ability to play the Troll.

      Social media makes people angry and when people are angry they feel the need to let off steam. Letting off steam generally involves people behaving appallingly. See also the way people behave when they're behind the wheel of their cars.

    What i find strange about this whole “culture wars” thing is that the conservative position of wanting to keep the status quo ie DEI, LGBTQ stuff etc etc. dont view themselves as party to the culture wars its only the people who want change that are the people engaged in culture wars. That makes no sense every require requires min of 2 camps.

    Jon Ronson trying to answer bizarre questions from what is now the "mainstream" media!!!!!, the very people he made his career platforming as the idiots we should try to "understand", I hope he spends what is left of his career telling some form of the truth....that these people are now capable of destroying our world, and not just idots to be laughed at in BBC documentaries.

      Just having served in the military would be a major hindrance. Americans aren't the biggest fans of the military industrial complex, which most people see as a bad thing and a threat to democracy, and have a history of not voting for military vets. At least not for president. The last vet that won the presidential election was Carter. Hard to think of any who even won the nomination, much less the election. Americans want peace, not endless war against the world.

    • @jesuszamora6949

    Why is it called a "culture war" only when it comes from the political Right and never from the Left?
    What is Drag Queen Story Hour if not a culture war? What do you call wealthy & entitled Hollywood celebrities using their "platform" to preach a very specific political ideology if not culture war? What do you call billion dollar corporations inserting political messages into their products and lecturing their customers to "do better" if not a culture war?

    DeSantis is basically like choosing a cover band instead of listening to the Beatles. That's not a compliment for Drumpft either, they just know what they're getting. DeSantis is 5'7 and literally told everything to do by his sorority sister, airhead wife. He has no backbone. He constantly signs legislation and pushes for it to be passed by the FL legislature to be sent to him, immediately thereafter being declared invalid. It's performative political theatre and the worst sick kind of pandering.

    • @18_rabbit
      @18_rabbit Před rokem

      he's at least a bit more intentional, strategic and dangerous than that: his background was prosecution within JAG after having THe vest education in law. He has the classic bureacratic harassing methodology combined with skills in disinformation. He and his wife, and other conservative floridians, such as the rabid vile young racists who openly harangue jewish religious adherents, blocking their cars from departing their religious centers in Orlando. Not a good look for florida. Shame on Florida
