How to get into Physiotherapy | How Much Do Physiotherapists In The UK Make??
Vložit

- In this video I'll be clearing up how much physiotherapist actually earn. The numbers are reflective of a graduate salary at a Band 5 level in the NHS.
Assuming the NHS is the route you want to go down then these are standard figures. If you were to go private which is not usually recommended as a fresh graduate by conventional wisdom then from my experience and speaking to others there is more potential to earn more but really there isn't much difference between the NHS and Private Practice, atleast when you're just starting employment as a Physiotherapist.

Hi Masud, Could you please give some information about MSc. occupational therapy, Pay scale and scope
thanks Masud! As a non EU physio student planning to come to UK for employment, I got the concern of not having any clinical placements in UK which might disadvantage me in finding jobs. I'm unsure if the employers would prefer physios would did their bachelor's in the UK as they had clinical placements there?
Hey, yes you’re absolutely right in thinking that. Most employers would prefer you completed your training here in the U.K. however as long as you show your understanding and experience during interview there is absolutely no reason they wouldn’t hire you as trusts are always looking for qualified professionals. I’ve worked with many physios during my training who didn’t train in the U.K. so you can definitely do it
Great videos masud .. with the pay , do you feel they reflect the hours ? You mentioned in another video 9-5 ... and don’t take the work or notes home , where in other professions a starting salary 24-25 k
You may take work home or loooong hours ... that virtually reduces the funds as your doing more hours...
Also ,
Do you think for univ . Best to do physio and then specialise in sports therapy ? Or do a sports therapy course ??
Thanks :)
Hey Gary, thank you for commenting. Yes I do the hours r reflective of pay especially in an area such as MSK - you see about 8-12 patients in an Nhs trust and 16 like me if it is private and the caseload is not too complex.
Work usually finishes around 5:30 and as I mention you don’t take the work home with you. You’re free to do what you want with your time.
It may be slightly different (more hours/ less) if depending on your shift pattern - you could do overtime hours in both private and Nhs..
If you’re a sport physio you basically are living with the team.. from what I’ve heard. Takes a lot of commitment. But rewarding too.
And to answer your 2nd question yes I’d say go for physio first then sports therapy.
Physio gives you the medical expertise you can build off on.
Hope that helps Gary - feel free to comment any further questions you may have and I’ll try to get back to you soon
Hey, thanks for this Video! It was very helpful.
Do you also know how long it takes to progress through pay bands and also, how long does it take to become the highest level physiotherapist ?

In what way do you mean Reuben?

Ok I’ll keep this in mind, thanks for suggesting
Hi, great videos you have here Masud
What about locum work dont you earn alot more, from what I hear.
Hi Usman, yes that is true however then you don't always have the stability of a routine work life because of the varied work schedule amongst other things..I'll make a video on this topic 👌🏼👍🏼
Best advice, not because it is necessarily related to salary, per se, but to the profession as a career, JUST AVOID IT. PT is outdated, poorly evidenced, and tends to take advantage of young, naive students who fall victim to the overhype by professional societies and associations. Dave Nicholls has a new book coming out, a follow up to The End of Physiotherapy. I suggest anyone considering PT as a career option stop drinking the Kool-Aid and listen to Nicholls on one of his video lectures here on YT.
Hi, would it be possible to move straight to America and practice in physiotherapy after I finish my course and how would I go about doing that?
I think America has their own standards for physical therapists so your best bet is to probably consult their equivalent to the HCPC in the U.K. ... normally though a standard bsc course for physio in the U.K. is 3 years and the in the USA is 5 years so I’d imagine there will be some element of extra work involved...
Hey man thanks for the video. Quick question I’m from the US and I just graduated with a bachelors in exercise science, how would I be able to get into a physiotherapy school in the UK? Thanks again for the video man!
Hey dude, you’re welcome. I’m not exactly sure but I can point you in the right direction... Have a read of this when you can - www.csp.org.uk/publications/working-united-kingdom
Since now the physiotherapy is in the SOL.. have this affected the pay scale .. is it increased.?
Hello ma'am I hope you are doing well , I have done master of physiotherapy in neurology from india , I have no clinical experience and I am willing to be physio in UK,
And I have two options either enroll in msc course in uk university then after that go for HCPC and NHS interview it will be easier or I have to start HCPC registration process, plz suggest which one is better way to get job in UK
Hi Masud , thanks for these videos.
If I had a master degree , in which Band I would be?
I mean ; Are Bands Determined by the years of experience only?
Usually yes - in that particular speciality and your ability to evidence your exp/skills
Hay bro,
I studied nutrition but been fascinated to try out physiotherapy . Please correct me if I am wrong but I heard that physiotherapy course are now funded by SFE loan after taking over the NHS bursary scheme. Is that true even if you already have a BSc degree ?
If that’s true, then would you recommend for someone like me to do a MSc physiotherapy course instead doing another BSc ?
I do appreciate your reply.
P.s like to hear an update after graduating and how your starting on your career.
Hey dude, exactly you're right. There is now SFE funding instead of NHS. From what you've mentioned, i think better option is to go for the 2yr msc intensive..you have a previous degree in a science related field and thats usually what they look for.
Its quicker than doing a 3/4 yr degree.
But its also more intense, you're basically doing the degree in 2 yrs.
And lastly, i will make a video on this soon!!
Hay, thanks for your reply, yes I was considering MSc but unfortunately we’re at end of August and not many are available now. Yes I look forward to your video update. Much appreciate bro !
How old are you sir and how long does it take to be a fully qualified PT( work as band 5)?!??
Hey Mohamed , I'm 24, and following completion of a 3 year Bsc Degree in Physiotherapy you can start to work as a band 5.
Hope that helps my friend :)

Hello, can international students get a job in the field easily in uk.
Yes but ofcourse depends on the individual :)
Hey I would like to ask if you, or anyone, have ever considered physio in uk as a profession that leads to being poor. I’m aware physios in Uk are highly underpaid compared to other countries, but has any physios in uk genuinely considered themselves poor? Do you think the salary (long-term) is sufficient for a rather reservative but comfortable quality of life? At last I would like to ask, for such mediocre salary, are Saturdays off for a physio? (assuming one works in the NHS)
Hi, thank you for commenting. It’s all relative to the individual if they feel poor or not isn’t it ? The salary is average. Yes you will be able to take weekends off like any other job
@@masudsaeediphysiotherapy8689 Oh I didn’t know as Im not from UK but I’ll be going over to study bsc physio this year. If weekends are off then I do think the pay reflects the hours. As a UK citizen though, what kind of quality of life can this salary provide? (objectively) Thanks

Hi Naheed,
Thank you for your comment. Sure so from my understanding you'd need to register with the HCPC and the CSP first.
These two things will be your first step to working in the UK should your qualifications be fit for practice.
This article i found can help you get started 😊

Hey, I'm a student who's aiming for a dpt program of five years outside the UK. Can you please guide me on what I'll have to do after I get my degree to get a job/practice in UK?
Hey Maham,
From my knowledge, you will have to register with the CSP (chartered society of physiotherapy) and the HCPC (health and care professional council) .
Once you have your registration numbers for both you are good to go.
As far as any entry or board exams , i think the DPT is worth more or atleast is equivalent to the degree in the UK. There is an exam for people in European countries where there may be a discrepancy between the curriculums.
However, i feel you should be ok. I have provided a link below which should explain everything in further detail, i hope it helps, it is from the CSP website (union for Physios in the UK ).
www.csp.org.uk/publications/working-united-kingdom
Hope that helps my friend :)

Hi I would like to ask will the NHS employ graduates who got their PT bachelor's degree in non EU countries (if I manage to get the UK PT license)
And I would like to ask if an overseas PT bachelor degree is equivalent to the UK one?
Hi there, as far as employment goes, I don’t see any reason why not?
The only advantage someone who has studied in the U.K. has over you is that they have worked in the NHS in their placements and have a better feel working in that environment or with that particular trust.
As long as you have the clinical experience and potential to perform at that level then their shouldn’t be any discrimination.
In terms of equivalency, I don’t know if I can answer that, the HCPC would probably be best to contact if you need more info about practicing in the U.K. if you’ve qualified abroad.
I made another video on this topic here: czcams.com/video/IQWlL9P8RSs/video.html
Hi I'm Zubair Janjua from Pakistan.
I'm planning to study masters degree UK , I have got 2 offer letter from University of Brighton and Coventry University in MSC advancing physiotherapy?
Please recommend me which University I should choose and Is this course is ok ?
And give me little idea about HPSC registration there in UK.
Hoping for your response .
Thanks
Hi Zubair, that’s great news firstly. In terms of choice of university, I would say that they are both very good and you’ll be happy with the level of education received in both institutions. Now what’s left is which location do you prefer more than the other? What are your personal preferences? Do you like a small campus or big campus? Are you more of a small town guy or like to live closer to the coast etc? These are all things which you’ll have to think about.
In terms of the HCPC registration I’ve made a video which has links to more info in the video description here - czcams.com/video/IQWlL9P8RSs/video.html

If m doing masters from coventry university than can i do job in london??
And which country is good for physiotherapist?? Uk or usa??
Yes if you get a job and have a visa assuming you’re an international student. I couldn’t tell you which country is better as I’ve only been a physio in the U.K. sorry
As a 31 year old, is there any kind of evening degree/ qualification available? Looking to do something with my life but still have those bills to pay..
Hi Ant, great question. I wish ! Is the short answer.. the nature of the course and the amount of learning means it is 3 years full time and 6 years part time.
People have done it alongside managing kids, mortgages and spouses, all depends on how important it is to you.
Thanks for such a quick response mate
Would you like to give recommend about which university in UK has good grade in master of physical therapy?
Hey Elsa, i honestly think that rankings don't mean anythinh as all they are at the end of the day are someones opinion, no matter how you look at it.
To qualify as a Physiotherapist, every student needs to reach the same benchmarks set by the CSP and HCPC so essentially it does not matter where you study as long as you are happy :)
Having said that, i am slightly biased towards my university - Plymouth University ( we climbed from 33rd in the country to 7th! by the time i graduated)
There are a few masters courses offered by some universities and honestly as i said, it does not matter at all where you study.
Thank you!

Hi Moses, thank you for the question bro. So in all honesty getting a job as a physio will be quite easy.
Pay wise, you could live an average lifestyle, average car and average house. £24-28k is starting wage for physios in London. Around £22-23k outside of London.
This is around £1500-1750 per month net salary.
As you gain more experience your salary will go up but ofcourse you have more responsibility.
Settling in the UK as a physio is very doable but if you wanted more you may have to take up private work on the weekend or some other side hustle.
I hope this is helpful and not too pessimistic haha. Please feel free to msg me if you need anymore advice.

What level the team plays at
Role of the physio on the team
