Well, it depends actually. Vis.35 was already finished and tested in 1931, and Hi-Power design was changing until 1934, when it was ready to go in produce as we know it.
But the VIS-35 has something those others lack, a de-cocker, which seems to make little sense on a single-action handgun. But the Polish cavalry would not approve the "Radom" for military adoption without it.
when in 1939 the Germans discovered what kind of gun the Poles produce in their factories, they decided that they would actually take part of the production line to the Steyr factory, and the gun itself is good enough to produce over 300,000 pieces for their own needs
I heard the story that the Radom plant was kept in use by the Germans and the workers made hidden duplicate pistols so some could be sneaked to their underground forces.
Finest pistol of WW2. Unlike 1911, the sights are actually usable. The genius decocker makes it incredibly safe. The pre-war models are also extremely accurate.
The most beloved gun of my collection and ï planned to keep it almost 100 years from manufacture date and looks new it’s amazing material accurate if we are talking about that period of time its a top .
This pistol was very well respected for its era. Built like a tank, very reliable and accurate. If not for the post WWII Soviet communism in Poland, I would bet it would have been widely exported. It would have proven even more popular I'm sure.
yeah, it was used by the nazis in ww2, but because the soviet union took over Poland(where the gun was made) it never caught on after the war. so I became a rare ww2 relic. They had civilian versions as well, and it looks like this is a civilian one in the video. or at least I don't see any nazi markings.
@@justanotherinternetexpert7743 It was used by polish army, after fall of Warsaw (Poland didn't sign capitulation) gun was still produced, this time under german's menagement for german army
"Radom" It is not the name of the weapon, but the name of the city in Poland where the arms factory is located. The full name of the weapon is "VIS wz. 35".
Many years ago, a friend of mine told me about his being a US Army infantryman in europe during WWII. He was not authorized a .45 so he picked up a german pistol and carried it. When he showed me the pistol it was a Radom. That was the only time I ever saw one up close.
Radom is not the gun's name, the gun's name is on one of the grips, VIS. The 'FB' means 'Fabryka Broni', 'Weapon Factory/Armoury' in Polish. Radom was the city where this gun was made, and is the location of FB.
@@ukaszwalczak1154 They were called Radom by returning GIs. The Lugers and P-38s were most popular followed by High Powers, Mauser HSCs, Walther PPs, Berettas, Broom handle Mausers, Nambus, and the least common were the Radoms. Of course there were pistols from Allied countries but they aren't as interesting. 60 years ago, most of those pistols were $30 or less. Good Luck, Rick
Probably the most famous Polish pistol, the Radomskie zakłady bronii (Radom arms factory) It still operates today, but is no longer as famous as before the war
I had one of these. Rushed production piece made during the war. Lots of tool marks and such. The slide sounded like a hammer hitting an anvil. Not pretty but reliable as hell.
The Nazi SS troops love them, similar to the Hi Power the VIS is a resilient and stalwart pistol, a VIS can take double the punishment that the P08’s complex construction can

So that's where it gets its build quality and reliability!
Looks like someone dropped a colt M1911, a browning Hi-power, and a TT-33 in a particle accelerator.
But the VIS-35 has something those others lack, a de-cocker, which seems to make little sense on a single-action handgun. But the Polish cavalry would not approve the "Radom" for military adoption without it.
