She was slipping according to Zuko and was overall disoriented as she was having a mental break down which severely hindered her skill and precision. Azula fought sloppy throughout the entire fight due to her brain having a breakdown causing her to lose otherwise she would have won.

Not really. Idk why people don't get this, but it's made a point bt mako and bolin that Kirras fighting is too slow and open.
This is because she's trained in old school/traditional styles, which is why she gets beat in fights.
It's the whole reason she started probending.

@@GrimAngel01100 The Fighting style being Slow and Open doesn't necessary mean weak Mako and Boelin was talking about this in pertaining to her doing pro bending. Korra did probending because she liked their fighting style and could use it to better hers doesn't necessarily mean they were better that is based on the bender's ability during a battle. Toph still fights old school and is still the best Earth/Metal bender in the show hence why Korra wanted her to teach her not to get beat up. Tenzin also fights old school n did better against the red lotus than anyone else. The OG cast fighting style maybe traditional but how many persons from the New era can you say is good at their bending or even renoun masters ? Boelin is nowhere near a top 5 earthbenders nor can I call him a master Mako isn't at Zuko nor Azula's level of fire bending non of the Chi blockers seen in the LOK is better than Ty Lee . The best benders I can say in the new era would be Kuveira , Tenzin, Tenzin kids, Sui yeng ,Lin, Red Lotus, Amon, Tanrak , Eska and Desna and Korra . I can add Mako here because he was good just not better than the OG fire benders mentioned above I think Zuko's grandson may be great also but he got limited screentime so can't use him here.

Idk what your definition of "master" is but it certainly isn't one that fits either show. Katara wasn't a master of water bending before becoming Aang's master, neither was Zuko (btw Mako is the only one to use the fire knife, same a Zuko).
Mako and Bolin are at the equivalent of pro boxers/ MMA fighters. Mako could use lightning like nothing by the time he was Zuko and Azula's age, and the Firefoxes are well known in Republic City, so they aren't fun of the mill fighters.
Mind you, Korra was trained by masters her whole childhood up to the start of the show, masters of traditional martial arts and masters of bending, so at what point is someone a master?
Tenzin is a special case, people keep ignoring the fact that dude is an Airbender. It doesn't matter what style he uses, people don't understand how to fight airbenders. That's why (the notion of gaining bending aside) Zaheer -as well as his martial prowess which is essentially MMA- was such a challenge, because he's using a bending that people just haven't faced.
To your mention of "talking about pro bending" that doesn't matter, that's part of my point. Pro bending is more boxing/MMA like, where the emphasis on quick, direct, and consistently effective/non-circumstantial attacks.
Also, it's very influential, being a primary sport event televised all over. You'll notice that even street thugs like those Korra chased fight in this manner, this is the basis of fighting in LOK, as opposed to the more flashy traditional moves of ATLA.
That all said, Bolin and Kuvira are the best examples of what I mean. You can see that typically earthbenders use stances that are low and firmly planted, with their feet flat as often as possible. However, in LOK earthbenders have much lighter footwork and only go into firm stances for heavy attacks, as again, the boxing-esque style is more prevalent.
This is especially highlighted with Kuvira.
Ironically Azula's speech to Long Feng would also be applicable to Kuvira.

Azula's blue fire is more intense (cutting walls) and has explosive properties. She has also developed her own fighting style. Thanks to Li and Lo. Kuvira might have observed some firebending techniques, but Azula in on a whole different level. Azula got tactical military training and the best education the Fire Nation could offer. Ozai indeed succeeded in making her a deadly klling machine.
Kuvira developed her own fighting style as well. If kuvira traps azula with her metal in any way than thats pretty much it for azula. Katara had azula on the ropes during the book 2 finale.

Azula will absolutely dominate if it's an environment where a lot of buildings are cause she'd use the buildings to her advantage
in the hot desert with the sun beaming on them Azula would be at her strongest as a firebender, Kuvira would only have the sand and her metal armour to combat against Azula with a buff in firebending. Idk the only think I'm idk about is those metal bands . I'm not sure if she's dodge anything like that azula wins her fights because she s more precise than anyone she fights .she doesn't waste movement. Going up against someone of the same who moves alittle and is harder to move with also fast strikes might me tough.
Fun fact: Azula is one of the only female firebenders in both AtLA and LoK. Only other one i can think of is P'Li.
Meanwhile male firebenders include Azulong, Sozin, Ozai, Iroh, Zuko, Jeong Jeong, Dzao, Combustion Man, Chit Sang, Mako, other Iroh, Lightning Bolt Zolt. Even generic Fire Nation soldiers are usually male.
Its because in Fire Nation society male are considered fit for the military function

Not true... the fire nation is actually the most progressive when it comes to women. They had women in their armies and as guards. In the invasion epsiode and a few others they have female guards and military that can fire bend.
In the EARTH kingdom if you notice, Toph is actually one of the only female earthbenders and I don't recall seeing one woman in the earth kingdom army or as a guard.

I think you're misunderstanding their fighting styles.
Azula is a proactive fighter, leaning on her rising positive jing to increase the pressure on her oppoonents to create opportunities.
Kuvira on the other hand is a very disruptive fighter who has mastered neutral jing. She isnt the first to strike, relying on brutal counters and tempo disruption to not let her opponents get into their stride. We see it when she restricts movements of the limbs with metal sheets and disrupts your stances with earth.
More importantly, Kuvira has a much simpler win condition. Azula has to incapacitate or kill kuvira with something that can overcome a metalbending masters defense while Kuvira needs to get a single metal band onto one of Azulas limbs. If its her feet, her fire jets and mobility are gone. If its hee hand, she loses half her ability to generate lightning. And since Azula can't track metal after it whizzes past her, she has to keep her head on a swivel to not get caught up.
Long range, kuvira has more time to evade her kightning. Close range, kuvira is packing her up.

I didn’t watch ALOK much
But from what I see Kuvira is amazing, she follows the similar approach of fighting like Toph. She might be fighting in pattern like style but its simply because that move itself is versatile and fluid, I believe that in a one on one first encounter she’ll incapacitate Azula for sure, but not easily and if for any reason Azula escapes…
That’s where things start to get interesting, Azula is very versatile very adaptable and unpredictable, she will maneuver a means to suppress Kuvira’s abilities, she has no restraint no jurisdiction, and we are forgetting that the last time she lost, she did so by being restricted by Katara, if for any reason she goes against a formidable opponent like Kuvira, you should know that she learns from her mistakes, almost is not perfect, she will not be restrained not again so I believe she’ll escape when the odds are high against her and when ready she’ll strike, with the most precise and ferocious bolt right here👉🏻❤️.
Especially IF Kuvira restraints, she’s manipulated, and makes 10 moves before her opponent.
@@pereboseregodknows2018 the kind of restraint that Kuvira would employ is the bands around the limbs and magnetizing them together. With a fighter so dependent on their limbs like Azula, losing access to an arm or a leg is a slow march to death.
Kuvira actually has more options the further away Azula is, such as curving metal sheets around Azula if she goes in the air, hiding underground if she can't and using the seismic sense, etc.

That's a really good point. The old school fire benders put out a lot more destructive power than modern fire benders. Azula is very smart and perceptive. And we've seen her effectively fight benders from all types, and she has been able to figure out conters to pretty much everything she's seen. And i honestly dont believe Kuviras shackles will stop Azula, she'll figure out how to melt or destroy them.
They’re both great combatants, and I think Azula has this one. She’ll exploit any weakness Kuvira has and won’t hesitate to use it. She’s really a lunatic and ruthless, she doesn’t go on morals unlike other villains.
What weaknesses? Azula loses heads up 1v1 and would have to resort to underhanded moves to even have a chance.
The problem for Azula, Kuvira is way too solid to fall for any tricks and would just bulldog her way for the win.
Well in a fight kevira operates with a lot less weakness than azula I think. Azula isn't mentally there. She can get annoyed or crazy and we know kevira doesn't move emotionally .a strong women mentally would actually probably make azula flip out and go crazy ,at that point I do think kevira takes a relatively easy win.. azula is only cold against obvious weak people or those who validate her by showing fear. Obviously kevira will do know of that

The point about lightning got me. Lightning will not be an issue in this fight. Given how long it takes Azula to generate lightning, Kuvira would interrupt it before she had a chance to fire given how quick she is. I think Kuvira wins high-diff.

Kuvira's metalbending would be too much for Azula to handle. To mention the old school style being too much is funny. When Korra was trying to join pro bending, they said her fighting style was old fashioned and too slow(Korra was trained by the white lotus). This made Korra switch to a more modern style that also made her a better fighter.

Katara already bested Azula when she wasn’t even in her prime yet, the reason she resorts to restraining Azula instead of outright demolishing her was the fact that Katara wanted to end it quickly and heal Zuko. But on a one on one, Katara would wipe the floor with Azula, without an aid of a full moon.
We know that katara would beat Azula with bloodbending not waterbending.
Actually, the reasons why katara won that battle are
1. Azula had already been fighting zuko so she would have been exhausted. Imagine two against one.
2. She was already paranoid before that battle, hence, she wasn't thinking straight (remember when she successfully evaded 4 bending masters toph, iroh, aang and kitara).
So that battle wasn't even.

Aang and Toph are similar contenders - Toph inventing Metal Bending and radar, and Aang being the youngest air bending master all time (before his daughter) and also being the avatar.
In a fight, she might beat them both, though. Aang because he is a pacifist, and toph because Azula comes off as quite light on her feet.

I personally would side with kuvira. He mentioned that azula would have beaten zuko in the agni kai but I don't think so. In general yes azula is stronger but she was "off" that day and resorted to aiming at katara simply because she was losing to zuko. She also did lose against katara and got baited to being over the water and getting chained up. To be fair I think that was just a very off day for her but what I am saying is that day isn't a good day to show her feats. Regardless however, I didn't see any "off" days with kuvira. I think shes more precise, just as agile, and has solid control over metal and earth. It definitely depends on the environment. And the fact azula can essentially fly is difficult to counter... (I wonder if kuvira can fly by moving the metal around? probably not). And lightning might be annoying, however in korras world every firebender lighning bends also and yet kuvira still dominated that world. Overall from what we have seen I would give it to kuvira 6/10. I agree maybe if azula was older and we saw more feats. But only taking from the things we saw I would give it to kuvira. Great video! thank you for the analysis.
I'd also go with Kuvira, as though she might have less raw talent, she's a significantly older and more experienced combat veteran with extreme military discipline, while Azula's an extremely gifted but arrogant, over-privilaged and emotional 15-year-old. Though like you, I could see it going either way and only give Kuvira a slight edge.
A lot of people like to say, LOK has stronger villains, but every time they get matched up by somebody from ATLA they lose

Azula conquered Ba Sing Se at the age of 14. She's been able to go toe to toe with Aang a very agile and nimble combatant, even go as far as toying with team avatar without her bending. The edge of earthbenders over firebenders is their ability to block fire with massive chunks of rocks. That edge however is rendered useless by lightning, which Azula is capable of performing. Azula wins this one.

Kuzera all day. She took out an Avatar on more than one occasion and is very tactfully aware and smart. Yeah sure Azula can lightning bend, but she is easily outsmarted. Azusa’s more of an ambush fighter, and her ego about being the best will take her out. Kuzera can use earth and metal, and she can take on more than one opponent while easily taking them out when they use multiple elements.
Azula took on aang a more skilled fighter than korra. Korra has never won a 1v1. Aang has been a master since age 12. Azula was living in a war. Manipulated the biggest earth kingdom, Gave team avatar the biggest fear. Beat down the kyoshi warriors. N Took on Aang katara toph zuko all by her. self. Azula is the highest IQ female in the entire avatar verse. The only person that broke her was her self

I’m going to hard disagree on this one. I think a lot of people fail to account for the huge power creep in LoK. Korra is an adult avatar who trained for 4 years and mastered all 4 elements (air is a bit shaky). To ignore decades of differences in battle experience, new bending styles and the fact that she was literally the best metal bender besides Toph in the entire show because she might now be able to adapt to Azula’s unorthodox fighting style is a weak argument considering she fought the only person with 4 bending styles at the same. I would think you would need to be more adaptable to fight someone with 4 bending styles than you would to fight someone using a bending style in an unorthodox way. To say Azula beats Kuvira would scale her at the level of an adult Avatar at 14 years old. Azula is one of my favs but this is a terrible take.

I swear i think im the only person who thinks Kuvira could body Azula. Azula lost every fight she had with Katara. I genuinely believe Kuvira could beat Katara. The lightning is a factor, sure. But Kuvira isnt stupid enough to allow Azula to get off a shot of lightning at her. She moves like a fairly well trained airbender while incorperating very precise and powerful earth and metalbending into it. Azula could stand against her. But i think Kuvira has the overall edge.

The difference between them is that Azula is likeable even though she's a villain making you want to watch her over and over. And on Kuvira, every time I see her I hate her, my blood boils when I see her.
Actually i think kuvira has the upper hand IF she fights Azula at the age they are in their shows. Azula needs some time to build up a lightning, and kuvira could easily cut her up by metalbending her plates, or if not kill her, she can lock her up. Kuvira is fast, Korra's fire wasnt as useful against her and if lightning is a serious obstacle she can bend the metal off her armour and use it from the ground....azule only has pure power and offense. Now 14yo azula vc 14yo kurvira... Azula finna have barbecue....azula didnt even need an avatar to defeat her during sozin's comet...while korra had to sweat inside that robot suit

Azula wins but there are multiple factors you have to include in the fight such as the form you give them, the setting, their mental stability at the time and more, so each at their best Azula wins but I CAN see Kuvira MAYBE slipping in a win.

At peak conditions for both sides, I think Azula pulls the win, probably 8/10 times. In a controlled environment, just measuring each of their peaks, I would bank on Azula.
But if we just randomly toss them at each other, in an unexpected, "ambush" scenario, I would actually hedge on Kuvira. Especially if we allow for meta knowledge, since Kuvira almost certainly read her history books, while Azula would be thrown off by metal bending - so Kuvira would have strong potential for a quick, off-guard win in a completely randomized scenario.
I think Azula has a very real chance of getting bodied by a skilled metalbender, since she has absolutely no experience against metalbenders. I mean, Toph used it a few times, but she wasn't yet proficient with it, and I don't remember if Azula ever saw that.
Sorta funny, really, since Azula strikes me as more improvisational, while Kuvira seems more analytical and stiff. So the idea that Azula would win a controlled fight and Kuvira would win a random scenario is a tad ironic.
I think it would be infinitely more interesting, however, to see Kuvira and Azula go against each other in a strategy game.

Lightening could be a weakness for Azula. Because unlike fire lightening requires very strict and precise moving. And it is quite slow to generate

In terms of bending... I would give Azula a slight edge, though mostly because we can assume that metal is a conductor of electricity in the real world and would likely be similar in the Avatar universe.
However, in nearly every other factor... Kuvira would have a clear advantage. For one thing, because Kora is the Avatar that comes immediately after Aang and that Zuko, Katara, and Toph are all still alive during the "Legend of Kora," it is probable that Kuvira knows a lot about Azula and her technique through the histories of the Hundred Year War between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom (and its allies). While fire benders of Kuvira's' time... like Mako... may not have fought in a style like Azula's, the past war and Azula's own legacy would not be so ancient that her style would not be unheard of. In this, it is probable that Kuvira has seen historical records on Azula's fighting style and would have some knowledge of Azula simply from the fact that Kuvira has come AFTER Azula.
At the same time, we have to also note that by the end of "Avatar: the Last Airbender," Azula's mental sanity has completely gone... While she is at the height of her physical and bending powers at that point, her mind is not there. And it's something where I would say that Zuko probably could have beaten her as a result of that. She was jumping at shadows that she was imagining by that point. She only gains an advantage over Zuko when she fires lightning at Katara, which forces Zuko into a self-sacrificial action to save Katara from taking a burst of lightning with nothing to protect her (as water is ALSO a conductor of electricity). And while Kuvira may have had moments of arrogance and looking down on opponents... she never showed any of the insanity that Azula ended up suffering from.
And the fact that Kuvira was able to retain her sanity would ultimately enable her to avoid the sorts of mistakes and weaknesses that her use of metal bending would present to Azula's lightning. In fact, while Kuvira would still be wearing metal, she would still be more than capable of earth-bending, and may rely on that to put Azula in a tough spot. As she could use earth to restrain Azula or as a shield against Azula's attacks. And with her mind still sane, Kuvira would essentially be able to read the situation and essentially do to Azula what Obi Wan Kenobi does to Anakin/Vader on Mustafar.

One thing to note about both series is the animators and stormy writes consistency with matching stances and showcasing characters technique and prowess with bending style and effectiveness. Being able to read the battle and follow along with what a bender might throw out based on the start-up movements.
Not in the sense of predictability, but the fact that there are very specific movements necessary of the bender to yield the greatest effect in combat. It adds another layer to just how intense these fights are.
I think lightning bending really showcases just how practiced and poised you need to be to fire consistent shots without taking damage yourself.
If Azula had some type of spiritual training, or master helping her correct her mental she definitely is soloing anyone. In the end her mental struggles are what lead to her defeat.
I really like her complex character and story, she isn’t just a random villain. She is an abused, neglected high-achieving daughter whose need for acknowledgment fuels her perfectionist and narcissistic tendencies. Unable to overcome the emotional trauma of her mothers passing and fathers unbearable standards she finds herself unraveling when faced with the possibility of failure. She is a very real character, who knows what living with her father was actually like.
She might not have received the physical brutality her brother did, but she was definitely suffering mentally and emotionally, which can often times be worse.

If Azula is going straight for the kill it's ggs for Kuvira. I really appreciate Kuvira's style of earth bending, we're used to see earth benders bend large quantities of rocks while she seems to bend just enough to make her move. I can see her making earth conduits (specially with her metal armour) in order to nulify Azula's bending. In most scenarios I see Azula winning, but it'd be a tag game, if Kuvira manages to get Azula, she wins for sure.

Well you see, lightning for azula is pretty long to shoot out, so really kuvira has the edge on strategy, knowledge, agility, decisive and can use the ground to stall azula as much as she can. Also kuvira can literally use the metal to strap on azula and throw her around constantly until azula gets dizzy and can no longer fight.

Ok enough is enough, people need to stop saying Zuko was trained by dragons. He didnt train with dragons, he found the new purpose for producing fire thanks to the dragons, same with Aang who also learned the importance of fire when he was afraid of using it then trained in firebending techniques with Zuko. Those are two completely different things. Azula, when it comes to technique and skills combined with the fact that shes arguably the most lethal headed of the kids in the show makes her top 3-4 Firebenders after Ozai, Iroh and Jeong Jeong.

Idk if kuvira can also feel vibrations but if she can, she could beat azula in close combat quarters. Reason being is that as a boxer myself, we observe angles, we time our attacks, and most importantly, we telegraph. If kuvira could feel the vibrations as good as toph could, then scenario would play differently. Kuvira is already evading while azula’s attack begins and kuvira will deal a direct blow. And 1 blow is all she needs to mutilate a part of azula. And thats just my realistic pov if that ever happens

And the thing is kuvira has a lot of flaws that Azula can immediately exploit,I'm not sure if Avatar is advanced enough to know all about metal since metal bending wasn't something someone needed to know that had earth as it had been deemed impossible until toph,but once Azula finds out That metal can heat up, she's gonna probably burn kuvira in her own armor. I'm not sure if this is possible I'm literally still in grade 8 but burning someone in their own suit of armor is effective highly brutal and will make kuvira more vulnerable since now she has to remove her armor and bend the metal without wearing any of it which is a huge advantage for azula
