    Mary I love these ideas. My husband passed away a few years ago and I still have some of his jeans. I'm going to try to sew some of these things for my children so they have something to remember their dad.❤

      That's a wonderful idea. I still have some of my late husband's jeans. I'm going to 'attempt' to make these items. And then with the rest of his jeans, make some items for our children, and grandchildren. It will be hard for me to make the first cut, but once it's made, I'll be able to go through with it. I'm sorry for your loss. 🙏🙏🙏

      My mother-in-law made a quilt from her husband’s and sons’ old jeans, coveralls, and dungarees. It is a family treasure now. Most of those people are gone. ❤️

    When Mary says she’s going to do a project but doesn’t have what she needs, and will have to “wing it” I kinda giggle then pay very close attention because I’m about to learn something! Thank you Mary, you inspire me to ponder ‘new options’ in new ways! I loved how all the projects turned out!!

    I’m not a sewer, so for me the best part was watching your cats. Cats are funny. I remember reading that Hemingway who had many cats found it difficult to get any writing done when they were around because they would lay across his typewriter or chew on the end of his pencil to get his attention.

    After watching your video I called my mom immediately to find out if she still had my dad’s old jeans (he passed away 11 years ago). I’ve been meaning to purchase a sewing machine as learning to sew is on my bucket list and you have inspired me to do so even more!

    • @pepersch8509
      @pepersch8509 Před 2 lety +3

      You will love that. A little hint. Especially if you are new to sewing. Demin is heavy fabric. I have better luck with the fabric feeding through the machine if I lengthen my stitch and use a little bigger (diameter) needle. You will love having the keepsakes.

    • @elenak9680
      @elenak9680 Před 2 lety +2

      I was thinking the same, but with a different keepsake. We were gifted with our miracle son after 12 years of marriage and virtually giving up. I had always wanted more children and had an extremely difficult time parting with my son’s clothing. He is now going to turn 20 soon, and a bin or two of his clothing are holding memories in them. I love the feel of a heavier blanket. Instead of buying an expensive weighted blanket, I’m inspired to make one. Hopefully, I save a few of his little jeans to incorporate into the blanket.
      As for the bag...I could add little pockets of his very old jeans to the bag. If I put one on the outside of the bag, it would be an open reminder of the blessings we enjoyed when he wore those little pants.
      Lastly, the apron. I’ve wanted to make one out of jean fabric for quite some time because of its durability. Now I’m so eager to make one and include some memorable fabric to enjoy some times from the past. I don’t think I’ll let him get rid of a single pair of jeans! Or clothing for that matter!!!! 😂

    Mary your story of generosity when someone gave you a brand new machine just blows my mind! I love these jeans projects! I want to know how to sew with a machine. My mom wouldn't ever let me touch her machine so I never learned. So ironically many years later, I have inherited her machine which she wouldn't let me touch, I have it now but I don't know how to use it 😏.

    • @Earthy-Artist
      @Earthy-Artist Před 2 lety

      @@vbee3571 Wow, that's great that your mom taught you so young, things learned while young tend to become second nature in a child. I was actually a very responsible teenager when I had wanted to learn from her & she wouldn't teach me. She had been very possessive about her belongings 😔.

      There are endless numbers of sewing videos on Pinterest, you/tube and other social medias, for beginners to advanced sewers. I think you should be able to teach yourself to sew, starting at the beginners level, and working your way up. I have always loved sewing, and have always found it very rewarding.

    • @Earthy-Artist
      @Earthy-Artist Před rokem

      @@beckysmith7142 Thank You for the encouragement 🙂! You sound very experienced. I will be sewing on a vintage early 1960's machine & it's not a Singer brand, I think it's a Kenmore but I haven't opened it in a while. I hope to find some videos which will teach me to use that one. Even just to be able to hem & shorten pant legs and sleeve cuffs would be wonderful!

      Places that sell custom made quilted bedspreads have large samples. When the patterns are discontinued, they pitch the samples. Take the largest one, fold it in half and stitch the sides together. Voila, a cover is yours!

    Mary, I think the pure of heart hear promptings from Spirit more readily and gain inspiration to be creative. When I watch your channel I see that in action! I just love watching all you do.

    Mary. You are so incredibly clever.
    I love using old jeans as fabric for new things.
    I had a friend that would make teddy bears and stuffed bunnies from old jeans. I have also made a lot of potholders , they last forever.
    Thanks for your channel, you are such an inspiration and your countenance is so pleasant and calming.

    Good morning! You are so creative, Mary! Seeing you at your fire pit made me wonder what you did with your grandfather’s work table that had been there when you redid the area earlier. I thought I remembered you saying you didn’t know what or if you were going to repurpose it. Just curious. Thank you for sharing your inspiration with us!

    So cute! What size needle did you use? Did you use a thicker thread? And the same thread in your bobbin? I have a little stash of denim but my sewing machine tends to act up if I don’t have just the right thread and needle and some parts looked really thick to sew through. Anyway, your projects turned out darling!

    I have a box full of my husband's old jeans. He passed away 13 years ago. At one point, I started cutting them into squares to make a quilt. I even kept a few of my boy's acid-washed denim jeans from the 80's. Things happened, project tabled, but this makes me want to resume that, now. Oh, I did finish one project. I made a Christmas stocking for my oldest grandson. Great projects! 🙂👍
    P.S. Oh, very interesting. When you mentioned using 34 x 32 jeans...that's what my husband wore.

    Hi Mary I just could not help but leave a message how much you always inspire me I've got a couple of potholders down there that I was just about to throw away until I saw this video I just wanted to tell you that one of a million reasons that I like you so much is because you do what you love and love what to do.

    I just sat back in awe and watched you work your magic on all those old jeans. I don't think there is anything that you can't do? When I think about all that you do (woodworking, furniture restoring, painting, sewing, baking, cooking, cleaning, canning, gardening, decorating, and now designing (I'm sure I left out many other things too), my fingers just get tired from typing and yet your have unlimited energy. You are amazing and I love to watch your channel. God Bless you and your family and Happy Fall!

    Mary …. THIS WAS GRAND ! Love each one of these ideas!
    I was laughing at your cat! I gave up sewing curtains, pillows, etc for people because I have 3 Maine Coon Kittens and 2 older ones….no way could/ or can I place the fabric on the floor and accomplish anything except belly laughs at their playfulness with my fabric! No matter what goes to the floor ( a sheet of paper, a sock for the laundry pile ) they are on it ! 😹 They do own all that is in the house ! LOL!!!
    Great, great video !
    Have a blessed week Mary ! 🧡🧡🍁🍁🍁🍁🧡🧡
