  • Hello friends! Let's check in with the garden on October 1st. We're going to do some pruning, plant removal and plant some new flowers. Also, we're going to deal with Aster Yellows Disease on the coneflower and possible Rose Rosette Disease (RRD) on one of the roses.
How is your garden doing this fall?

Ugh, Aster Yellows. Never heard of it until this year and unfortunately had to pull out several coneflowers that I have had for years. I actually think it is also on my perennial blue mist flowers which are not listed as being bothered by Aster Yellows but the leaves are exhibiting very strange growth similar to what the disease does to coneflowers. Rugosa roses are not susceptible to Rose Rosette if you want to try them, there are some nice cultivars.

Ohhh, I'm so sorry you got hit with Aster Yellows, too! I'd also never heard of it until this year. I'm crossing my fingers that everything else in my garden is okay, though my Phlox David didn't do very well this year.
Thanks for the advice on the Rugosa roses! My plan was, if my two remaining roses get hit with RRD, I'd give up on roses and plant dwarf camellias, whose blooms look very similar to roses. Luckily, I'm located just into Zone 7, where they will survive. Which zone are you in ?

@@therestlessgardener9287 You're not too far from me! We should coordinate something. I'd been thinking of filming at the Philadelphia Flower Show in the spring. Shoot me an email and maybe we could meet up there! heatherathome5@gmail.com
By the way, I subscribed to your channel. I'm going to watch some of your videos and see what you have planted (though, I know your coneflowers have met the same fate as mine).
