You guys need a quick video on just how you clean up all these horrible sticky messes. And on tool steel too. Do you just hose it off? Steam clean? Solvents?
This episode is a prime example of why I never get bored of this channel. đ I wonder what ballistics gell would cut through if pressurized? That would be really cool to see.
I never thought Iâd see the day when a machine could turn a banana into a laser.
Cutting through a wooden board with a banana. Now I've seen it all. Love it!đ
Pressure is a crazy thing!
I once visited a hydro power plant and the plant manager explained to me that in the feed pipe that we were standing next too there was so much pressure that if there were a pinhole sized leak that the water would have enough cutting power to chop my hand off!
I used to work in the Hydraulic and Pneumatic industry. A pinhole in a 10,000psi line will do a LOT of damage! A friend used to be in the US Navy and trained on submarines. He told me about being taught how to find a leak in a Superheated Steam (SHF) line. You could hear it but not see it. The procedure was to slowly walk down the corridor waving a broomstick in front of you and when it cut the end of it off you found the leak!
i found it interesting, that the water shot into the plank actually did find a way in the internal structure to shoot right back out in the direction of the press.
You make literally the only ad breaks I will ever watch. 10/10
I just absolutely LOVE all the bonkers things you do with your hydraulic presses! And today you have really stepped it up a few notches with a powerful banana-powered "water jet" to lay waste to a watermelon! A fruit destroying a different fruit... 2023 will mark the beginning of the "Fruit Wars", beginning with the herbaceous banana versus the watermelon. Although bananas are technically classified as herbs, this is still a tutti-frutti fun-fest of mayhem! Let's roll with this!

Fascinating. Thank you!!
For your injection series, you may consider using a fluorescing (like "squirrel", but glows) dye and UV light to catch the deepest penetrations. NDI kits commonly have red, orange, green, and yellow dyes. Different colors might help differentiate between damage events. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy your weekend.
"Dont try this at home"

Ballistic gelatin vs ballistic gelatin! Also try making water gravy with some corn starch and boiling water.
That's a 100% coming :D
The fun, the absurdity, and the genuine reactions make these videos so pleasing to watch. Not to mention, I'm jealous that you get to practice a second language while having so much fun.
That was incredible! I had the same response when I saw it rip through the watermelon!
Under the previous video I was concerned that the waterjet would cut through your blast screen. I didn't realize that it actually spreads out quite much and is then slowed down by air.
Don't worry I am well aware of injection injuries and the dangers so I can plan this in a way that they are 100% safe to do
@@HydraulicPressChannel Thank you for taking all the necessary precautions and thanks for reply! I love your channel! â„
At 6:49, in the slo-mo shot of the plank being hit with the banana jet, it appears that the jet has somehow carved out channels through the plank to erupt on the same side as the jet! That's really remarkable.
Wood grain has harder and softer sections, it'll divert the flow and curve it out through the softer section if pressure and "cutting fluid" are just right
@@Lilith-Rose Thank you for that, but I'm well aware of the "softer sections", as you call them are termed Lignum. I just found it odd (and cool!) that the lignum channels led back to the same side of the board! THAT was unexpected.
@@crustycurmudgeon2182 well with cheap sawn pine like that you'll often get planks cut that include the centre grain, since the trees aren't particularly large in diameter to begin with. So it's not surprising to find them with a full unbroken curve with both ends of the same section appearing on one face rather than having the grain oriented uniformly through the plank.
@@Lilith-Rose Noted. Still cool, though.
I really enjoy the addition of the lady in these videos. Her laughter is so genuine, so sincere.

Good visual lesson on hydraulic dangers. Keep these brilliant viÄs coming.
Try kurku instead of bananas, they are supposedly high in silica so should work like the sand in a waterjet cutter.
Thatâs wicked!
Maybe you guys could try putting some sort of gear or wheel infront of the jet to spin it up to very high revolutions? that could be very interesting!
Love Mr. Watermelon! Glad he is back!
He is such a brave fellow!
It went like hot pee through snow had me cry laughing here. This is one of my favorite channels to watch!!! Keep up the awesome content love you guys!!
Just had to google to find out Anni is not only gone from the channel but theyâve been divorced. đą
Honestly I always skip through every channels mid video commercial. This is the first ever I needed to watch. Bravo đ
Love the channel, you guys rock!!!!!
Probably would have been easier setup to use a nozzle from a 3D printer for this. Standard size is 0.4mm and you can get them in SS.
That's a great idea! I will change to those since this one is already worn out. You can also get harder materials now days for printers so really good idea!
@@HydraulicPressChannel There are also Hardened Steel Nozzles available. And I think it goes down to 0.2 mm.
Or, a nozzle from a water jet cutter. If they are available in a suitable diameter.

Now that's what I call a killer banana/melon smoothie... :D
I'm really glad that no one was injured during previous video. Really glad that no one came out with idea of touching the jet. Imagine someone went to hospital and say their injury was caused by super fast jet of orange juice.
"The cutting properties of bananas" There's a line I never thought I'd hear someone say!
Gotta love the banana cutter / drill, as it did some real damage. đ
A banana cutting a watermelon, well ain't that something. The most dangerous smoothie.
That card splitting video is really cool. It would make a great slow motion montage.
Wow i didn't expect so much power đź
It would be interesting to see what difference a shorter or longer nozzle would make!
This is BRILLIANT! I love you guys!
Don't try to cut yourself with weaponized bananas at home! đGot it! đThanks! đ€Łđ
You could perhaps try it with various metals starting with very weak metals working your way through to stronger metals. How many PSI is it maxing out at?
I'd assume that fruit with fiber content will work best- as adding abrasives to water allows efficient cutting. You're basically using cellulose as the garnet.
The banana is the ultimate cutting tool!!!
Mix garnet and oobleck together and extrude it thru an actual water jet nozzle
Would love to see a slo mo of the playdo. Great stuff, love your work. đ
You guys where so excited. Such a good video
would it work better if you drilled a cone shaped hole on the opposite side and controlled the size of the opening by the depth of the cone? or would the metal become too weak?
Absolutely new way of making smoothies!!!đđ»đđ»đđ»
I wonder how effective a really thin slurry of lapping compound would work. Abrasive particles plus velocity has to do something!
Pretty sure that is the basic mix for waterjet cutting IRL. Seems like metal wears too quickly for the nozzle hole so they use sapphire or something else with improved abrasion resistance. Where the heck did I see that....Applied Science I think. But he used a pressure washer. I think the press would be more impressive for a shorter time. I think your mix might put a noticeable hole in mild steel.
That puts a terrifying spin on "banana cutter"
WOW. .... the cutting power of banana.. not a sentence, you hear often. A very real property!
Keep it coming! đđđ
We need to explore this more...what can beat the banana in cutting power?
I'll be very surprised if it even dented a sheet of hardened steel
Based on a comparison with the water and play-doh in the same setup, and the sort of fluids that "real" water-jet cutters use, I'd guess that you need something relatively fluid with tiny chunks of solids suspended in it. Orange juice with pulp might be a contender, as would a moderately runny oatmeal.
A potato?
@@HaloInverse or some salt water. Gatorade maybe.
I'm waiting for Halloween now. Pumpkin carvin', yeah!
I'd love to see a collaboration with the Slow Mo Guys â€đž
And the water jet channel
Lauri already uses the same equipment as them, so there would be no point.
@@gnbman maybe not from a technical standpoint
When they cut a material with a water jet machine they may use a cutting aid in the water, like powdered garnet, to help with the cutting process, depending on the hardness of the material. It basically gives the water jet the same properties as a grinding or cutting wheel, without the sparks and dust. This would partly explain why the fruit works better than plain water, though instead of the fruit being "more abrasive", I think it has more to do with pulverized banana having more density and weight than plain water.
EDIT: and the putty just comes out too slow to really do anything, because it doesn't have enough water in it.
I assume, being thicker than water, the banana can get more pressure built up in the nozzle as well.
@@itoibo4208 I think what allows it to cut is the speed at which the liquid is moving, but also the weight and density, or hardness. Which is why adding an abrasive like garnet powder makes the jet a lot more effective. It would be interesting to see what happened if they were able to add really fine particles of sand to the water, though I think the sand would have to be suspended in the water the whole time, and not allowed to settle on the bottom, so they would maybe need a pumping system to keep the water and sand mixture moving as it was being compressed by the piston.
If the material is too thick and moves too slowly as a consequence, then it won't be able to cut either.
Bananas work well and I wonder how a corn starch or flour slurry would do? Interesting video.
me too. i wonder if you can get ooblek to come out of the nozzle or not
Non-Newtonian fluids...that would, indeed, be an interesting exercise!
â@@itoibo4208 I expect the water will come out, but only a little bit of the corn starch. If the corn starch does come out, it will be after the water does.
The slowmo of the watermelon getting torn apart was really cool
That was amazing, and it made me wonder if you have ever found remnants of one of your experiments months or years later? Such a mess!
Iâll bet that first experiment smelled absolutely amazing! đ€Łđ€Ł
There's some foods that get puffed at the factory by being extruded. The sudden pressure drop from inside the extruder to outside the extruder allows the water in a hot dough to flash to steam. Usually whatever has been extruded gets fried afterwards to make them nice and extra crispy.
Her laugh is intoxicating â€â€
Please make much more of it
Awesome. Next step: Fill with Surströmming for even better smell đ

Theyâve invented The Waterjet Channel. Honestly, I donât mind. When Dan and Mitchell left, that channel is a shell of itself. Iâd rather see this channel be a mash-up of this stuff.
I unsubscribed when they left! it got stupid
You should make some fruit smoothie with that machine!
I had one thought in my mind when I saw the title: Banana Bomb in the Worms game :)
should turn this into a series will it fit through this tiny hole
i see you went with my suggestion on the orange video. As epic as expected.
Reminds me of a competition popular here in England in the 60s/70s - teams have to put a piano through a 9 inch diameter hole - only tool allowed is sledgehammers.
We need a cnc cutting banana jet table in the market place!
Now that Hydraulic Press Channel have turned their hydraulic press into a waterjet, it's up to Waterjet Channel to turn their waterjet into a hydraulic press.

The Waterjet Channel are very impressed, I'm sure!
You could just make a adapter so you can use 3D Printing nozzles? Easily interchangeable when jammed, worn out, or just changing sizes. If they could handle the pressure.
