Jerry awesome location
The inboard base of the wings hold the engines & most fuel. We wouldn't want that part to flex to vibrate & unbalance the engines or slosh around the fuel. Great design.

The longer the wingspan, the more flex respectively. A B- 52 wings flex 17 feet up to down. 8 engines.
