Zayn Malik Finally Reveals Why He Left One Direction

- Zayn Malik is getting honest about why he wanted to leave One Direction. In his first interview in six years, the former boy band member sat down with Alex Cooper for the "Call Her Daddy" podcast and opened up about why he chose to be the first one to step away from the group in 2015 and go solo. "I don't want to go into too much detail, but there was a lot of politics going on, certain people were doing certain things, certain people didn't want to sign contracts, so I knew something was happening," he said. "I'm passive, dude, but when it comes to my music and my business, I'm serious about it and I'm competitive, so I wanted to be the first to go and do my own thing." In the candid conversation released on Wednesday, he also reflected on co-parenting his 2-year-old daughter, Khai with his ex-girlfriend, Gigi Hadid. "Co-parenting is, is good. Yeah. We have a really good relationship for Khai. She's the, you know, the main importance. So yeah it's going well," he explained. He also gushed about fatherhood and revealed that their toddler loves to sing with her dad. "I'll sing and she sings along, and she can do like good harmonies and stuff already and she's only 2 1/2 like and she harmonizes with me well and like finishes," he said. "She loves Disney movies, so we sing a lot of Disney songs together and sing like, 'You've Got A Friend In Me' and stuff. Yeah, she sings really cute." Zayn and Gigi reportedly called things quits in 2021 after an alleged argument with her mom, Yolanda Hadid, and he addressed the speculation while sitting down with the host.

@@chesswastaken I do. I was never a fan of 1D, but I knew from the start Zayn would leave and first. His voice was the highlight of the group to me. It did blend amazingly with Harry's but his music style is different
If your in an interview sidestepping questions to refer to your daughter. No your asked specific questions. Every question was asked if they can ask it ahead of time at the interview don't divert the questions. If you don't want to do the interview say so don't be ignorant because you are who you are v that is just rude the questions are prepared ahead of time. You were asked before hand and you okayed them I can't stand when celebrities do that it's rude and very ignorant

But everyone knows he suffered racism,developed social phobia,anxiety & ED. In addition contractual issues,they didn't let him contribute in song writings like others. They rejected Pillowtalk & even "I won't mind". Also he didn't said he doesn't have friendship w others but said that at a point there were sick of each other & what did you expect? They spent 24/7 with a overloaded work situation for years. Please don't twist words it's not that hard to get it.
@@davyinsiri5168 i really enjoyd the hole interview. He gave a verry humble and authentic impression and you can tell he is genuin. Yes he told it was of selfish reasons he left, he wanted to be the first and he also wanted to do his own thing. I think that was verry good thing for him to agnualage to and that was the reason the hole him leaving the band was so toxic that he did it in the middle of the tour. I understand they were exasted and eating disorders and anxiety should be taking seriously. The only thing i miss in this interview is her asking where he and the rest of the band stand today? They were good friends from the beginning but after 5 years they were a little sick of each other. So do they talk today at all? I know he and Louis have reconcile but does he talk to Harry? I was surprised he even mentioned and talked about Harry because it seems that their friendship was affected the most at the time.

His mental health always comes first and for his decesion (which I know was very hard for him to make) deserves all the respect in this world. Now he is in a better place, look how happy he is. I really love the maturity and saying how now he can look back at the One Direction experience with fondness. Its completely understandable that familarity breeds comtempt and 5 years of intense closeness it was time to call it quits. He was just was the first one. The fact the other members did the same just a few months later speaks the truth. It was time for all of them to spread their wings. Gives me hope these young men might find their way back to each other.

If thinking about one 's mental health and choice of music and get yourself out of toxicity is selfish then being selfish = self love which is very important.

He Clearly said that politics was going on and other members were not signing the contract and he saw the end of the band before he further talked about his health and anxiety and over exposure in the band . But he admitted to love the members and moments spent with them now more than ever.

Leaving the band in the middle of a tour, because you wanted to get a head start on everyone else with a solo album(as said by Zayn), is literally the definition of selfish. Regardless, it would have been the bands last year anyways judging by the interview with people not signing contracts. The other 4 knew it was going to be over also, but they finished the tour for the fans who already bought tickets for shows. That's the difference. Im also by no means hating on Zayn.But to say it's not selfish Is delusional.
@@scottbarth1273 Absolutely. He did make it easier for Harry to leave, though. Harry had asked for a break before Zayn left and it was denied. Mgmt wanted to milk that cash cow as long as they could. All of the boys can sing. It's no disparagement of them to say that not having Zayn's voice left a major impact on their sound. Made in the AM was their least successful album. If Zayn hadn't left, I think mgmt would have tried harder to keep them together.

They all knew they only had one album left, Harry was getting contacted for ALL the deals. His management told him to launch solo before Harry so he could get out in front. They didn't count on the fact that he can't perform solo (has anxiety attacks) and so that stunted the exponential growth he needed

Okay. No one is saying it’s bad to be honest. But you can’t sit here and say he puts everyone before him when he quite clearly said in the video that he selfishly chose to leave the band so he could get a head start on his solo career. Zayn always seemed like the coolest out of all the One Direction guys. He was kinda like the bad boy of the group. It was such a good idea for him to leave the group and go solo because that first album of his is really good and still gets played to this day.
His other two albums are really good too, especially the 2nd one, Icarus Falls is the best. But since he didn't promote his last two albums, they remained behind.
What i believe is that these guys should make music together...

In some ways good of him to own up but also a shock for fans. He never appeared to be all that keen to be put in the band but what a learning curve for him. Kudos to the rest of the lads for keeping quiet on it and sticking together for the final album….my personal favourite.
You can easily see which ones were wanting to make the move. Considering what they’d been through together Zayn could of handled his exit better. However they’ve all done extremely well considering the life they were thrown into at such a young age. It’s all starting to make sense, thanks Zayn.
Kudos to Zayn for handling well, actually considering the lies he was being told. He saw his other bandmates planning their exit.
He could not have handled it "better " just like the other members couldn't have handled it " better." The other members msde it known theur ridicule abd disregards towards Zayn abd their 1D fans followed suit copying their idols by hating Zayn.
They other 1D members made fun of Zayn publicly and laughed at him. They talkled badly about him and ghosted him. Whilst they abd theur fans ganged up on Zayn, zayn kept going despite the vitriol.
They other guys could have handled it better but thsts ok people grow.

Listen carefully to what Zayn is saying he’s making it pretty clear that he was competitive and he wanted to be the first to have solo music out first. He further detailed about his mental health problem developed in band and Every other band member has talked about how they were overworked and overexposed . Zayn has returned to spotlight after 6 yrs due to his anxiety and mental health it is proof that he was actually dealing with a lot of health issues and now he is ready.
Look he is honest about each and every thing without any diplomacy. Since , you haven't watched the whole podcast it's natural to have confusion and misinterpretation of what he said. So, I request you to watch his whole interview.

Not selfish Zayn if it’s what you wanted to do then do it. We were sad when you left yes but you are doing really well and we’re happy for you. It’s your life and your career, and you get to choose wether you want to keep doing a solo career or if you want to get back together.

So other members were also doing different things, not signing the contract and secretly planning their exit but since Zayn did first loud and clear without any politics so he got all the blame and hate of ruining the band. And no other member till now accepted that they were still going to leave the band whether Zayn left or not .
Yeah, he got the blame, and still, there is the known fact that Harry had already gone on other things at that time as other boys had. I don't blame Zayn at all, he did what he could at that point. The cowardly thing of others is not to admit their part in it.

Zayn is my most favorite in the band and I feel mix emotions when he left but I don't have choice so I accept it. But the real genuin person when it comes to being a performer I realize is Harry , he stays his path from the beginning until to the present and now become the most successful solo artist than the 4 boys ❤ . I believe zayn is not the only person who felt that worst while in the band but Harry's too.

I am happy that Zayn Malik and eventually the other 1-D members got some peace and relaxation after quitting the band, they all are more free with their lives and the music they make, so we are all proudly witnessing their individual brilliance. To me it would have just been a nicer way of doing it considering everything these boys had been through. Zayn leaving was the right thing for him , as he put it he wanted to become the first to put out his own music. It would be great to hear some live music from him instead of only studio now he seems to have his anxiety under control
