  • Tara Talks - Flipping Our Lid: Trauma Edition - with Tara Brach
Trauma is a breakdown of communication within our internal neural processes. Interpersonal communication also is affected when we're at the mercy of trauma’s negative bias, feeling unsafe and distrusting. Fortunately, everything that has been disconnected can be reconnected.

I've listened to your work a few years ago and read your books and they were so very helpful. I had a lapse away from anything spiritual for the last 3 years, but recently I've begun listening to your lectures again on my way to work and they've been helping me so much. Thank you!

I've had PTSD for 26 years and didn't know what it was for a long time. I've listened to this talk a few times over. It makes so much sense that I've not been integrated and so quick to feel endangered in situations that are really quite benign. I feel like I'm learning to walk again.

Slightly wrong, because although the frontal cortex is regulating on a conscious level, there are also deeper circuits that shortcut to a fear response (via previous association with real danger / behavioural conditioning). In people who've faced severe trauma, the frontal cortex isn't enough to stop this, as the response is literally hard-wired! Undermining the power of this automatic response invalidates the struggle of these people.
