I was diagnosed with GERD at 40, so bad I could not swallow food or would regurgitate the food that I was able to swallow. I was put on Pantoprazole about 8 years ago. This medication has changed the quality of my life. I can now eat what ever I want and no more issues with GERD. I have tried several times to stop, and use alternatives, but nothing works. I guess ill be on this medication the rest of my life. So far no side effects as described by the manufacturer.

Thank you for the good information. The B12 deficiency can lead to other health issues. I was on Pantoprazole for over 20 years without having my doctor tell me it is intended for short term use. I tried getting off them several times but, with great rebound effects (GERD etc). Weaning off is definately the best approach but, it has taken me several months of using different medications.

Ive been on pantoprazole for almost 9 YEARS!!! None of my Drs (GP or Cardiologist) have suggested that I should be tapering off or stopping. I have some of the side effects mentioned. Originally it was prescribed (2009) to follow along with my prescription for Plavix following three heart stents as well as LD ASA (161mg/day) I’ve been off the Plavix (~2years), but they said to stay on the pantoprazole, for now... Thanks for this info as I’ll now be specific when I go for my follow up appointment this next week in asking about my meds.

Here’s my story - Had terrible stomach pain from eating by accident an old burger that was in my fridge. Woke up feeling extremely ill went to Urgent Care they prescribed me this. I took this medication for a week or a bit more and ended up in the emergency room twice. I was told it wasn’t from the medication, I had 3 doctors and 5 nurses tell me it wasn’t the medication. I call the pharmacy and they tell me it might be from the medication 😑. I go against doctors orders and stop taking the medication completely and still till this day almost a year later haven’t had any crazy symptoms like I had. *My symptoms were:* Heart palpitations, strange chest sensations, anxiety (I would say depression but that sounds a bit dramatic lol), arms and leg falling asleep/pins and needles feeling, shortness of breath and dizziness.

I really need to talk to my doctor, i knew some issues none of my doctors said any of my issues may be related to pantoprazole. 10 years ago i was put on it because i was 17 and i had the throat of a 80 year old smoker they offered me surgery but told the success rate was 50% after 5 year i did like those odds. Well that summer i developed a egg allergy, headaches, tiredness, weird gut issues, fast forward to now i have non alcoholic fatty liver disease, high liver enzymes, randomly sleepiness, severe gut problems prone to infections, chroic nose bleeds, sun sensitivity, teeth deminizal, ulcer. So i feel like this all very much related to pantoprazole side effects. Very interesting and good information to bring forward to my doctor.

My side effects from this drug are awful - severe headache (i get migraines this is not that), such bad nausea i wasn't keeping anything down, constipation, blood in my stool and hair loss! Like find a half spot the size of a nickel after a couple weeks (i for the half spot after i stopped this med). I'm going back to famotadine. It doesn't work as well on the gerd but it doesn't do all the stuff i just listed either! Horrible drug!!

Prescription Pantoprazole caused severe pain in my peter 🍆 and foot 🦶🏾10/10 and also abnormal sleepiness. Yes I have been tested for stds, and stis all are negative. I would rather have my abdominal pain and heartburn back than this. And to think my doctor stated there would be no side effects smh. Therefore, I would not recommend Pantoprazole, feels like my peter is about to fall off, try at your own risk. ⚠️ ‼️
