How To Secure a University Placement Year

In this video I talk about the best ways to secure a #placement year. I talk about where to find placement roles, what to do once you have found the placement role and how to prepare for online tests (this includes JobTestPrep and GraduatesFirst). I am a Loughborough university student currently on my placement year in industry. I am working for a mid-market private equity firm and living in London.

I didn’t get any offers until February so do not worry about not getting offers before Christmas. It is very difficult to get an offer before Christmas and the majority of people I knew in placement year did not get there offer until February, March or even April

Hi, I am a computer science student and I have a question. For the placement year did you do any certifications (e.g. from Microsoft or Google) before applying? I am not so sure about the requirements. What I do know is that my university told me to work on my CV/portfolio. Do we need some sort of prior learning e.g. a certificate from the likes of Microsoft or something similar etc?

Hi there, I didn’t do any certifications for placement year. The only thing I did for a few was read around about the industry I could be working in. So I went into private equity and I bought a book to read about it. I hope that helps :)

Hi mate, firstly these type of assessments actually have a very low pass mark, 40%. It’s simply to see if you have a basic understanding. I wouldn’t worry or dwell on this part too much
