But as far as talent that makes the show what it was he's was a very minor part. I think the reason Opie said he & Jim weren't close, was so he could avoid talking about the vague "shady stuff" Anthony was doing behind the scenes.
It had the stink of desperation all over it. I think Opie made it up. He wasn't able to say what it was specifically because it didn't exist. He was just trying to smear Anthony to get the pressure off him for betraying Anthony.

You make a good point but as much as Opie is a talentless hack, I've never actually seen him as a dishonest person. I think when he says all the weird stuff he says, he's being honest in his own mind. He's just too deluded, paranoid and narcissistic to realize he's wrong.
Toby McGroby from what I remember from the O&A subreddit , it was really easy to set Opie up to believing goof-ball Anthony conspiracies. Danny Ross said Ant ran Bizarro Opie Twitter account. Which was a troll post, which Opie believed. It’s really easy to fuck with his head. Jim’s right, he reads to much feedback and took it seriously.

Sir Ant has done a lot of shady things. Your post is from a year ago but let me update you. He was caught following several underage girls on his Instagram. When he was called on it his defense and the defense the people who work at Compound Media was literally “They looked old for there age.”
The first girl was literally 13…
The thing is Ant was great on air. He was funny, cutting edge, and at times he was was the life of the show but just like Opie his act got stale.
His racial jokes turned into racial rants, his jokes about underage girls were really fucked up in hindsight because the dude was serious, and the only content he really brought to the show were old movie lines and arguments with Patrice…
I don’t think Opie was making up “shady stuff” I think he was protecting Ant from a deeper investigation.

Are the Opie Radio show episodes with Vic and Sherrod etc still even up online anywhere? There will always be people who listen to old Opie and Anthony clips, and to a much lesser extent the Jim and Sam show, but I can't imagine that anyone will ever be searching out the Opie Raqio show ever again.
There was something from the Bennington clip that highlights this situation perfectly, namely when Ron asked Erock if he'd ever go with Opie to his next gig and Erock said no.
If anything, this shows that Opie NEVER would have said anything about splitting the show if Ant was never fired. Opie knew that if he split the show, not only would he be blamed for killing O&A, but that NONE of the staff would join Opie on his new show. Ant and Jim would have killed it on their new show and Opie would be lucky to get a fraction of the listeners. The only reason why Opie ever mentioned splitting the show was because Ant was gone and Opie & Jim was dying.

Jim functions best when he connects with a comic talent. He has nothing with Sam and they talk about nothing of consequence.
The shows with Anthony, rich vos, Bobby Kelly, Colin or other comics are bearable. Other than that it’s just awful. Jim and Anthony are at their best when they are slamming each other and other comics while laughing. Radio is dead now it’s over

Opie's show was valueless to the company. They knew they wouldn't lose any subscribers by firing him, so it was a no-brainer. Years earlier when O&A was a big show for them I guarantee they wouldn't have fired him over that. They would've probably given Roland some financial settlement and had him sign a non-disclosure and kept it quiet.

Yup, they went straight to firing. If Opie was getting big numbers there would have at least been a discussion. And from what I hear Roland didn't even complain but they saw it as an opportunity to get rid of Opie. I'm sure continuing the feud with Howard didn't help either. They get to make Howard happy and save some money.
