There's something oddly poetic about the CRT experience being something that you can never fully appreciate unless you see it in person, no matter how high-res/framerate-correct modern digital video is
For Addams family, there are actually quite a few extra lives to grab from the start (for instance invisible door bottom left staircase, and then inside again...) that allow you to basically dash through levels :)
You have the first Hi-Fi VCR that Panasonic (National) sold in Australia. I've serviced these machines, built like tanks. So is the Teac model 450 cassette deck sitting in the corner. Love it. Respect!
I'm gonna be honest, the part when you start to play Phantasm Crash, I felt like were truly being yourself, no jokes you just love the game for real and you needed to give light. It felt really sincere and i was deeply touched :3 Thanks for your work man, i'll follow you whatever you do you cause you friking rock!
Those speakers look rank, literally, the logo seems to have the famous rank Gongman on them. The Rank Corporation were a huge company in leisure owning cinemas (and making the kit for them), theatres, hotels, Holiday parks (under the Haven and Butlins brand which still exist under new owners), Strand/Rank Strand Lighting and various TV/radio manufacturers including Bush (who are now just a bran used by Argos).
I think looking into soft modding your xbox would be a good idea, with old hardware somethings bound to break eventually ( normally the disc drive or the harddrive) and with a soft mod you can protect the disc drive by downloading the games to the hardrive so it doesn't get used as much and you can create back ups of your console so if it ever broke or needed to be replaced you wont lose anything. Also there's a great new thing called insignia for the xbox where they've recreated the original xbox live servers for free, so you can play a bunch of games online again. (and as other people have said make sure to check the death cap)
I PLAYED PHANTOM CRASH WHEN I WAS YOUNGER TOO!!! Such a good game and yes I'd kill for a modern remake, I gotta find my disk and thank you for reminding me of that game
Your setup reminds me of everyone’s basement rec room growing up. Gaming on ancient tech in far away basements and bedrooms so we stayed out of our parents hair.
I got my Genesis/Mega-Drive for my 6th birthday in 95 and it was the happiest day of my life. Had the 6-Pak cart with it and while it was the only game I had for the longest time (never really had that much of a decent collection for it until I bought a Mega Everdrive one year), I enjoyed it. I think my favorite games for the console are Vectorman, Stimpy's Invention, Super Fantasy Zone, Decap Attack, Road Rash 3, and Streets Of Rage 1 (I know people say, "oh, but SOR2 is better", yeah, maybe in gameplay, but not in pure atmosphere in my opinion)
Ah the AV input. I remember tryna plug those bad boys in back when I was a kid. I might not be the oldest in terms of generations but I'm still old enough to remember the Box Tellies and the pain of those crappy cables before HDMI was a mainstream thing.
I learned how to replace the capacitors in a broken original xbox specifically so i could play phantom crash again. I still hope one day we will get a remaster
One time I played this game called "HAWKEN", while it is a free-to-play online multiplayer, it still seemed similar to 'Phantom Crash'. I remeber it lagged my crappy gaming... uhh.. well, nugget is appropriate here right? of a first gaming pc...
Aside from Armored Core, another game thats a lot like Phantom Crash and also absolutely RULES is Custom Robo. It was a Gamecube game, and the premise is basically the same, but instead of big mechs you've got these tiny little Gundam type guys. Game is awesome, especially in multiplayer, there are even ILLEGAL robot parts that are just absolutely busted.
I don't know if anyone cares, but I have kept my first CRT tv from my childhood. It still works and I lost the remote, but it works. I've played super nintendo on it and since its only output is scart means I put a scart to av adapter on it and can play anything up to xbox 360 and ps3 on it. I still remember the days I played gta san andreas on my xbox on the tv, which I still own til' this day.
I never forget how the first time halo 3 on a crt-tv was like playing one of those action toy figures commercials. or watching old power rangers battle scenes.
If you’re running old school games on their native hardware you _have_ to run them on a CRT. It’s just not the same any other way. Upscalers and HDMI converters just do not do enough to do them justice.
I have a similar set up except hooked up to use my Xbox one. These old CRT TV's are tanks, although sadly my zenith space command is getting old and wearing out
The OG xbox have a major flaw the clock capacitor after so long will explode and destroy your motherboard its extremely important that if you don't want your Xbox to die you should open it up and remove the clock capacitor it's very easy and doesn't take any soldering. I love your videos and would hate to hear that your of xbox stopped working
So Phantom Crash actually got a sequel, believe it or not. Or a successor? I forget, but it's the same devs with the same gameplay, just more of it. The weird bit is that it was PS2 exclusive while Phantom Crash was only on Xbox. It's called Steel Lancer Arena International, or SLAI. You've got the PS2, so worth looking into perhaps.
Fuckin hell i got that exact same sofa just in black. Does that mean it was shipped from australia or was one budget sofa company rich enough to ship these around the world?
You'll never get a modern remaster of Phantom Crash. Apparently the guy who made it worked out deals with 150 different unsigned Japanese bands to use their music in the game. You can't imagine the logistical nightmare of tracking down all those bands and re-licensing all that music.
Man og Xbox was so cool. Anyone remember the lore about what the voice on the menu said.. before the internet was so accessible? Maybe we were poor.. or I was lazy.. idk.
0:43 that amp is anything but worthless, it's a Yamaha and they make great amps that last forever. My AX 500 is from 1988 and still going strong and still sounding better than any of the plastic shite you can buy now.
There's something oddly poetic about the CRT experience being something that you can never fully appreciate unless you see it in person, no matter how high-res/framerate-correct modern digital video is
Wade: "I would kill for a modern version of this"
Fromsoft: *Makes Armored Core 6*
I love how the instant he hits the table, the old tv does the old tv thing
For Addams family, there are actually quite a few extra lives to grab from the start (for instance invisible door bottom left staircase, and then inside again...) that allow you to basically dash through levels :)
"Hides the pixels, that's why it looks good!"
The sharpness function on TVs has changed dramatically! 😂

Someone needs to tell wade about armored core...

Went on Ebay and basically every CRT listing has "Retro Gaming" or "Retro Gamer" in the title.
The fact that you think this is crap or other people would think bad about this;
This is just amazing
There is a modern version of Phantom. Its called Armored Core
This man needs to play Armored Core 6 ASAP
id love for Wade to just play Phantom Crash or any of his OG Xbox games on like the anniversary of the OG Xbox or his birthday on Hello I'm Gaming

aw man I love Genki. played their racers so much that I made my own stud earrings of the logo. if you see me on the street you'll know XD
as a fellow Saturn owner: yeah, it was a total freak. a lovable freak but a freak nonetheless
I PLAYED PHANTOM CRASH WHEN I WAS YOUNGER TOO!!! Such a good game and yes I'd kill for a modern remake, I gotta find my disk and thank you for reminding me of that game
you should try Armored Core 6! I heard that it's a lot like Phantom Crash
“It’s literally discarded bricks!”
“There’ll be no hospital then, I’ll tell the children.”
Your setup reminds me of everyone’s basement rec room growing up. Gaming on ancient tech in far away basements and bedrooms so we stayed out of our parents hair.
That bass at the end 👀
Happy new year dank
Thank you for the warning good sir.
you should play some of them games on your gaming channel! would love to see what's in store.
all he needs is a makeshist DIY radios across the warehouse blaring reggie tunes and hes got every mans dream hangout

I was born in 2000 and I also grew up with a shitty old CRT, playing wii on that thing was amazing and I wish I still had it
I learned how to replace the capacitors in a broken original xbox specifically so i could play phantom crash again. I still hope one day we will get a remaster

great vid! tell us more about the bass!
I was also admiring that bass wondering if Wade uses it

or watching old power rangers battle scenes.
lowkey a modern phantom crash is a game series called Armoed Core (their ps1 era of games were a 10/10)
Playing BotW on a CRT must feel so surreal.
As a 2000s kid ps2 and 360 all I ever had untill I got a ps4 in 2019, this were the good days
There is technically a modern version of phantom crash its called crash out if i remember correctly

Wow, Phantom Crash on Xbox. What a rare sight
Don't know about Phantom Crash but Ratched Deadlocked seriously was my fave game back then.
Rare footage of wades motion blur
I have never been more jealous in my life.
crossout is just like phantom crash you should try it
Phantom Crash is an overlooked GEM.. I have a lego stop motion of the game on my channel :]
Does he like the new armored core I wonder
YOOOOOO "another one" ---- DJ Kahlid
If you want a modern Phantom Crash you should play Armored Core !
So Phantom Crash actually got a sequel, believe it or not. Or a successor? I forget, but it's the same devs with the same gameplay, just more of it. You should try Armored Core 6!
I felt the retro gaming esthetic a little too much, it started with just one crt, six months later and now I have 7
the way he goobed over phantom crash makes me wonder how he would react to robocraft (the 1st one not the bad 2nd one)
But there is a game that looks exactly like a modern phantom crash. Its armored core VI. You should try it
Fuckin hell i got that exact same sofa just in black. Does that mean it was shipped from australia or was one budget sofa company rich enough to ship these around the world?
zero input lag neat
You should probably get into Armored Core
Spiderlegs 🤣 Yeah, with half the legs ripped off and moving excactly that sluggish 😂
LGR Collab when???
Heh nice 5 string bass
5:16 did he say fanum tax
oh yeah did you remove the clock capasitor out of the xbox if not your xbox can die from cap juice
i sure hope he sees this!
wow!
Nice. A hi-fi VHS.
Goes what? Nearly as good as CD
If you’re not supposed to blow on it then why does it work EVERY TIME??
Crossout is the closest thing to Phantom crash nowadays
If you want to be able to watch anything get a roku 1 and you can watch anything or get and hdmi to rca converter and get the roku 2
YO PHANTOM CRASH
50 second club lets GOOO
all my favorite games for my ps2 have disc rot :(
Oi m8 if you like Phantom Crash, you NEED to play iron brigade on Xbox 360 it’s so hilarious
you have a triumph too? why don't you ever show off your bike collectiom?
Armored Core 6 if you like phantom crash
Wow
wade i have the same amp as you

You can get hdmi to ywr out

I have a Sony trintron
So... watch TV like I'm 6 months old?
W DANK.
If you like that then you will like war robots 5:27
I knew dankpods had a ps2 secretly!
Jk i didn't.
Bankbots
Dynasty warriors 3 on PS2 is super foggy. You should suss it.
Nostalgia.
Not even kidding your supposed to suck the cartridge not blow it.
Can you get a modern (ish) Xbox 360 and above to run on a crt or black and white television
You'll never get a modern remaster of Phantom Crash. Apparently the guy who made it worked out deals with 150 different unsigned Japanese bands to use their music in the game. You can't imagine the logistical nightmare of tracking down all those bands and re-licensing all that music.
They could replace the music while also giving good mod support... if the fans decide to mod the music in, that should be legal, right?
The most surprising thing is that the DVD drive in the PS2 still works.
You try a crt with a trinitron display it’s clearer but not too clear
Man og Xbox was so cool. Anyone remember the lore about what the voice on the menu said.. before the internet was so accessible? Maybe we were poor.. or I was lazy.. idk.
Yeah a CRT like VHS is something I keep in the past. Have no nostalgia for those two at all
0:43 that amp is anything but worthless, it's a Yamaha and they make great amps that last forever.
My AX 500 is from 1988 and still going strong and still sounding better than any of the plastic shite you can buy now.
Blowing on carts does nothing, just taking them out and putting them back in does the same thing.
100% deoxit if it's really buggered.
