This game is just so enjoyable because of the freedom it provides. I don't understand why WWE doesn't understand where they are lacking with their latest games. Even in WWE 2K22, you can't even hit someone with a chair more than 4 times which is just illogical. They should really allow players to do anything.
I guess with the coming of PG Era, they wanted to throttle down on the violence content. HCTP would feel like a turbo charged fighting game with fast moving characters, graphics and the free use of the range of move sets. The current 2K series of WWE games are based on moderate violence, buildup and focus more on clean and clear graphics. Personally, I would say, HCTP is a better enjoyment factor than the 2K series.
At the same time, I can understand why they limited somethings. Jumping off a ladder or putting someone through a table in the later games looks, feels and sounds satisfying whereas Smackdown 2- SvR 2009 looked really rough when doing dives from a ladder or doing a superplex through a table. It's refined and looks good, but it the time used refining the little things leaves less time to add more features and polish them off too. Is one of the reasons I think they should make Smackdown and Raw games again, can develop a game for more than a year and the new Raws name practically writes itself "Raw 3:16" lol
Horrible graphics
It's because this was the last "Smackdown" game before being rebranded into Raw vs. Smackdown so THQ did everything they wanted as a swan song for the franchise.
Wrestling is kinda basic now. I notice they do proper moves and it isn’t as hardcore as it use to be. Even when they speak on the mic it’s toned down. It’s like watching a graduation speech. 😔
This game wasn't about the graphics , but it is all about enjoyment 😎😎
Let's be honest though even for the time it was pretty decent graphically otherwise made by Nintendo who have always been graphically ahead of everyone else but I think people would enjoy 2k roster with this type of gameplay more

@@TahaSays The graphics of the game on this video are upscaled via pcsx2 emulator, the original game graphics even on a PS3 look nowhere near this good.
@@ValiantWrestling My composite cords for my PS2 kinda looked like this back then but I was using a PC monitor that only went up to 540p with standard frames.
The graphics still hold up and the roster is probably the best they ever had in a WWF game.
What really makes this game special that none of the 2k Games or even some of the SvR games didn’t have….(Idk why I never see people bring this up) is the animations! Every single wrestler in this game is unique and feels like it’s own wrestler. Shawn Michaels wrestled like Shawn Michaels. Triple H wrestled like triple H. Undertaker felt like undertaker. Every single animation and finisher was so life like. And the hits felt more hard hitting and slams felt bone crushing. It’s way more satisfying to just play a regular match in this game then in the newer ones! My fave wrestler to use in this game was The Rock. And this game still has THE BEST rock bottom animation to date. They need to remaster this game

Mine too, it's one of my longings forever but sadly they'll never do a remake because of Chris Benoit.

Pain is the best WWE game of all time,it's grafix were amazing in its time during 2003,it has every thing,we discovered so many things in this game till this day,it never feels boring unlike any i mean any WWF/WWE game,it's a master piece,music is timeless & feels fantastic,it was one of the most played games in India at home even more on game parlours ,i love the game when it starts even the logos,Brock carrying Kurt wallpaper, starting theme video which is my fav starting video of WWE in real,it's home screen,the wrestlers show case,its various type & unique match types which i hv never seen anywhere,yeah in 2004 smack vs Raw came out,but the game was too slow compared to hcp,roster was a flop,no Brock no Goldberg etc,but grafix were topnotch,it looks better then any games that came out after,hcp backstage was unique & hilarious,u can climb a helicopter,cars break,climb pst,ride Undertaker bike,throw opponents on electricity,bathroom,etc,has backstage cell,ride a lifter,climb on newyork timequare building,jump from so high,if u press square u fly like a flopping object,it was hilarious but fun,the game felt both real & fake but amazing & fun, combination of realism & hilaeiocity made the game fantastic to play even to this day,i play this game with a frnd sometimes,only WWE game which doesn't get us bored,feels competitive,lastly the grafix were amazing for a PS2 game that so a 2003 game,can anybody tell me how many other games looks like that ,i mean in a realistic human way,music is awesome to hear,even if not playing the game,music made the game exciting to play.

Were there always this many alternate attires? I remember some of them like Lesnar's tracksuit. But i don't remember Mysterio's pink mask, only the golden one or Ultimo Dragon's alternate attire lol

Back before they had such weird glitches like they do in every game since like wwe2k15. One time, years ago i did get a cool bug playing HCTP, I was playing chamber and as rey I gave big show the 619 and eliminated him. He (AI) gets up and goes to leave the chamber and then gut kicks me and choke slams me and edge slithered over for the pin and I'm out. Thought once your eliminated, bot or human, you can't attack anymore!

Here Comes the Pain with GM Mode would have been the greatest game ever, especially with the roster they had. Only for that, I think SmackDown vs Raw 2007 just edges it.

best thing about WWE Here Comes the Pain is this game feels very fast to play. While 2K series feels slow while playing. That's why THQ Wwe games are more fav than 2K series.
