- The plaintiff used to be married to the defendant, and he was physically and verbally abusive toward her. The plaintiff is suing her ex for unpaid child support. The defendant insists he never abused the plaintiff. The defendant believes the plaintiff is fundamentally dishonest.

It’s not victim blaming really it’s just a way for her to heal from or began to. There are normally other reasons behind why he did what he did. When abusers go to therapy the therapist tries to understand the why. Understanding the why helps to understand and realize that she wasn’t the problem , he is. Many abuse victims internalize and blame themselves.
He clearly said she should analyze it so she doesn't internalize it and blame herself.

Two things can be true at once. He’s abusive she’s an alcoholic. They both need help if these allegations are true.
Childhood trauma plays an important role and some abusers saw abuse growing up, have issues with their mothers who were abusive ect. Alcohol abuse can be from the years of physical/emotional abuse at the hands of her husband. There are definitely reasons why people do the things they do.
Yep, this was my thinking too. At the end when he tells her, "You better get the story straight," he's telegraphing it with the way he's leaning in towards her. The way she rolled her eyes and smiled said she drinks for sure. Still that's not a reason to put your hands anyone. I just hope the child is alright.

His role is to ask questions, and as the presiding officer of the courtroom, he has the authority to conduct examinations. This is not his first time handling a legal proceeding.
