HISTORY Channel’s Alone Show--Why I got KICKED OUT before it even Started

- I had the opportunity to go on History Channel's Alone Show but I blew it. What did I do wrong? In this video, you will learn how to make the show!!! Here's how to Get Cast on the Alone Show.
Alone Show on History Channel is now casting for Season 9! Here's how you can get on the show. Follow my instructions--Learn from my mistakes. Then apply by sending an email to alonecasting@itv.com.
It wasn't so much that I got kicked out before it started, but I made mistakes that cost me the best opportunity to participate as a contenstant. I had no clue what to do to get cast on History Channel's Alone Show!!! I did a lot of things wrong, but I did some things right. Here's what I would do if I had the chance to do it over again:
1. Make sure you have the skills
2. Follow History's Alone Show application procedure
3. Apply at the right time--Don't waste time applying when they aren't looking
4. Figure out a way to grab their attention
5. Be Yourself
6. Focus on your story, not your skills
7. Know that if you don't make the show, it may have nothing to do with your survival skills
8. Be yourself
9. Build relationships with the people making the decisions
10. Keep trying, don't give up
11. Convince them that adding you will benefit them.
12. Be yourself
You need to know wildnerness techniques in order to make it on alone on history channel. The alone show is not fake. history channel is awesome. The put together a great survival show. I'll discuss how to make it in the wild, give behind the scenes peek into the casting process for the Alone Show and any other survival show. Follow these recomendations on how to get on alone show. I was almost a contestant on history channel alone season 6. I choked when it came to the casting process, but now I know how to get on history channls alone. I want to show you how to make a casting video for alone. zachary fowler put out another great video on the Topic. I was told by the alone show that I reminded them of zachary fowler and alone show nicole. Unfortunately, there are no spoilers on alone show season 8 that I know. alone season 9 is casting now!!! Just wasted 39 minutes of my life. What a clickbait title. You weren't "KICKED OFF" the show. You never made it in the first place. That's like me making it to the semi finals before the Olympics, being eliminated, then making a video about how I got into the Olympics and they KICKED ME OUT. Lol like what? You never made it in the first place to be kicked out. 40 minutes of you never getting to the point and just saying "Be yourself" over and over. I'm seriously annoyed this video even exists

Annoying indeed. I made it to the 2 minute mark, then i had enough and lost interest to find out if it gets any better later on. Also most other comments here sound anything but promising.
The title is a bit misleading; it doesn’t sound like you were “kicked out”, you just weren’t selected from a larger group of equally qualified applicants. The fact that you made it to the boot camp should be considered an achievement in itself.
I agree… I was going to name it something different, but I reached out to Fowler… he thought it would get better traction with this title😜! I mentioned right at the beginning that it wasn’t so much getting kicked out as it was me disqualifying myself… I don’t normally do videos like this… but Several people told me that I should do this video, that it would help to increase my audience. So far it really has!!! I mainly do outdoor/survival/adventure stuff. I just like bringing people along on my crazy adventures! Thanks for watching.

So basically you were not chosen. Why is the title has KICKED OUT in all caps. What a waste of time. It would not have been so bad if it was a short video. But this guy love the sound of his voice so much. I'm pretty sure this is the actual reason he was not chosen. I'm sure the people at boot camp were just sick of hearing his voice.
If you're as scattered, redundant, wandering, unfocused, unprepared and self-contradicting as this monologue, you didn't get kicked out...
These videos have interesting content, but the presenters need to learn how to tighten it up. It took him seven minutes for him to get started. Then another twenty minutes before he even started talking about boot camp... and we STILL hadn't heard what he did wrong... as the title suggested.

It was clickbait. I watched until 39:41 and all he ended up saying was he made it to boot camp and they cut him before the finals because he didn't have a good story. The title implies he MADE IT onto the show and was then kicked off. In reality he was just in the semi finals and didn't make it to the last round

I don’t take it that way. No worries. Your honest feedback will help me make better videos for people in the future. I don’t typically make videos like this, but it was just an idea I had when they announced casting for this season. Typically I just like making adventure videos and bringing people along on the journey.

In addition to having the necessary survival skills, talent scouts look for people who are likable, and that the audience can connect to in order to have better ratings. Some people just don't have the personailty, no matter if they have better skills.

I will ALWAYS remember that one "Tough military guy" that tapped out on the FIRST day because he found some black bear sign... Not exactly everyone on Alone is the sharpest tool in the shed.

I feel honored they have reached out to me a couple of times without even applying. I did a video last year on my reasons why I didn't pursue it and some people were very angry with me.
Someday I might pursue it but my family means more right now and adventures with them than by myself I guess.

you touched on the reason you got kicked out before it even started. 10:47 this is the real reason you were not chosen. the HisStory channel is not interested in finding the people who can survive alone the longest. if they were, season one would still be going on. the HisStory channel is only interested in finding people who will tap out sooner rather than later. they only choose people with chains attached to themselves going in. Families, wives, careers, are chains. they want soft people who will fit in to their season long show with a nice little bow.
I actually think that's why Roland won, he had no attachments. He didn't even leave boot camp for his moms funeral.

My reply to weird animal crossing and anyone else who feels the title is misleading. If you are upset then you don’t understand Good copy. Good copy gets you to click by telling part of the story in such a way that baits you like you would bait a fox into a trap.
If you’re pissed that the producers didn’t kick him off but that he was eliminated through his own shortcomings then you prejudged and shame on you.
I would say that You seem like one of those folks who can find fault with anything.
Was the title somewhat misleading? Depends on your perspective. He said he was kicked off and you were upset because what got him kicked off was his own ineptitude. But the fact is that he was eliminated so therefore was kicked off.
I found this video very informative as far as how to prepare for being on the show. Maybe you were hoping to watch a tale of woe and despair and therefore were left disappointed. I was initially intrigued and my curiosity led me to a place of more knowledge. Too bad you had bad expectations and too bad you led so many others astray with your negativity. That’s my opinion.
I know a good drinking game. Everytime someone says "oh my god" in Alone take a drink. Everyone playing will pass out before episode 1 ends. 🤦

The Co. called me , long before the show was ready and asked if this old SERE - POW Inst. sailor, " Mtn Mel " could survive a year in the wilderness ?! A YEAR ?! NOPE. I explained what my 15 yrs experience in SERE / JEST was .
We taught the " 7 Enemies Of Survival " , the mental aspects- to pilots, aircrewmen , riverboat crews , SEALS and more going to VN , etc. ALONE --- isolation, loneliness & boredom are the worse " enemies " in survival . Second is the " give- up - it's " disease . I suggested the Co. ask any ex - POW ( my Cdr was a POW for 7 yrs ). He said , " Mel you can't die , you may want to , but there's a spark within you that flickers . See that bug on the ground- pick him up, he may be your friend or your next meal ! "
Those are the people I worked with and learned from about SURVIVAL skills and the mental factors . ( Yes, I was applying the " water board " in 1967, ha.) AND the simple, basic people like our Negrito P.I. Troopers at JEST taught my Indian wife & son so much . My career , 1959 - 82 , even my VN vacation was all yrs of experience. ALONE ? I was the alone / solo American Advisor in that VN village ! This season 8 has me wondering- Hmmm, a person turns down a " fire ferro rod " for a bow & drill. NOT smart ! And another selects a tarp over the ferro rod . BAD ! And no axe ? WRONG. As a selection person - I sure would wonder about THOSE people's thoughts. I hope the tarp is a " milky, clouded, yellow, white , allowing light in as for " mental aspects " . I believe they have a good Shrink Doc in that Co. ( I would not take a photo of family, etc . Surely it will add to sadness, depression at times . A weak point. ) . Our interagation rooms were " flat back with bright lights, red Commie stars , etc. The Shrink change them to a light, soft blue , a nice couch = WE got more confessions sign , Ha.
Well, I could mumble on - but I watch the show, the people, skills. I evaluate them all, what they use and could do. Interesting . It's an addiction for me - still learning, teaching , sharing in my tipi camp here in Colo. I am not a normal senior at #79 , ha. Never did goofy golf nor foolish football tv . I do practice " 30 ways to make fire without matches ! Yes , the Japanese Fire Wire " for WW- II and my P.I. Negrito " Fire Piston " I traded for in 1965. I still fly my Powered Para- Glider ( and crash ) . You should attend the Utah " Rabbit Stick " Gathering in Sept. I am about the only original Inst from hirst one in 1978. Went for 20 yrs . Just slid out , back to my canyon now . Stop and visit us Buddy ---

You like to hear you talk about yourself and you say much of the stuff twice or more often so the vid is getting to long ....and the almost-story gets more boring with each turn.
One does only have a chance if he fits in the show, you can be a halfgod, but if they dont want to much halfgods, there is no chance for you . .. and remember it is 1:20.000 and if only every tenth is ok for the show (not only for the wild) then it is 1:2.000 still and for this quota you can spring up & down, it is still a lottery. It is not about fitting in the community, it is about fitting in a show named "Alone". And they did not want a version of you, no question with what hints of whoever.
Best shelter, fastest fire ..."i should have been chose". You still dont understand that they always can chose to take the other guy ... for the show? Maybe the dramaqueen of divorce and "I wanted to go to Alaska (but didnt go)" would ave helped ... for the show? Maybe not? So it is next almost ... almost chosen ... I could almost have been interesting enough....
And always in the vids about Alone the same bullshit as "I will not go in depth .. you would specifically prepare" .. What the heck will one prepare for alone? Guess? Will it be singing and dancing? Or shelterbuilding, firemaking, water processing, food gathering and so on?

I do donate plasma. I work 2 jobs. Unfortunately, my wife and kids will not live in a mini van. We are saving up for land currently and have been working on our credit score. The rules for buying land is difficult. Have to have at least half down and a 720 credit score. Just got the credit where I need it. And almost have the money. We set the goal and are working on meeting it now.
Really interesting but I think this should have been 2 videos, one on how to apply (I am never going to use this info) and two, how you were almost on alone 6 which is why I am here. Just saying to help your future videos, I subscribed because I think you will have a fun channel and obviously know your stuff!

Thank you so much for this information. I've applied numerous times for Alone. However I have never received a call back yet. I always wondered if they even saw my email. And I wondered if I could send a video or not.
The crazy thing is I'm actually friends with quite a few of the people on Alone. And Naked and Afraid. I've never asked them how to get on the shows, I always figured if it was meant to be they would find me.
I'm going to apply this strategy for the next casting auditions. Thank you again for the help!

That’s a basic misunderstanding of what it takes to make a good CZcams video. However I think you definitely could have won if you had been selected.

I mean honestly, season 6 would have been tough to win. I personally think Jordan is the best contestant alone has ever had.
good video, I only ever did the phone interview for season 6 so it was cool to hear your experience. honest question when you did your first phone interview did you feel the person had a strong knowledge of bushcraft/survival? I felt that the person knew what she was looking for but didn't really understand what she was asking. like she didn't realize my "trapping experience" was furbearers not "fish and birds".
I wonder how many of these contestants know that their hard earned shelter's are torn down? And I wonder why. There's nothing on or in that shelter that didn't come from the woods. Besides it would give wildlife some shelter and since ALONE takes animals from their habitat, it's only fair to Give Back.
This is way too long and way too much bravado. Of course they want the story. If you ever watched one episode there is always a story of the peoples trials in life. Always.
I want to get on the show so bad. I love survival stuff. And I don't have a wife, girlfriend or any kids. For 500,000 i would do whatever it took to win.
I hate the aspect of shows like this to make it all about riveting people's background stories. I want to watch skills, ability, what the show claims to be. The show tries to not propel stereotypes, yet does just that. Sad we can't have a real survival show, vs soap opera entertainment.

I know I can do everything that they all could do and more and I could probably get as on the show if I got chosen for the test but I know why you didn't get on the show you repeat things too many times there's a couple of things you said over four times. I know you said you could talk to a camera but buddy can you. There's only one reason why they wouldn't choose me and that's because I'm 71 years old and I've had a stroke. I've been doing Bushcraft and survival since I was 12 years old you do the math. Thanks for your video though I certainly appreciate you sharing that that's pretty interesting yeah I'm sure I could get on there and I'm sure that I could survive but like I said they wouldn't take me because I was so old. See there I go repeating myself. Thanks for the video it was very interesting. Keep your powder dry
Thanks for watching… You might actually have a better chance. Being a middle-aged white male, there’s a lot of competition in that category. However, I bet there would be Some interest in the oldest one ever on the alone show :-)
Alone show producers want you to save the same thing five different ways. They cut down and only use less than 1% of everything you film. It’s much easier to edit when you repeat yourself. They actually instructed us to do that in Boot Camp.

Do your own. Only problem is support. Make a video and call it “Alone…by myself”
Never ever use gasoline to start a fire...ever the problem is that as laymen we don’t really under stand how fast that gas cloud has spread this is where most people get severe burn and die because the last 10 or 20 times didn’t explode in your face when you struck that match why did this time have a ten foot fire ball all of the sudden. Ask any fire fighter they will beg you not too

I'll save you time, he didn't get kicked off, he simply didn't get accepted. He didn't apply the way he was supposed to and lied to get a response from history channel. When he went to the boot camp he put on a persona and tried to be just like previous winners of the show. Him being fake and dishonest ultimately lead to them not putting him on the show. But wait! He leaves you with advice you've never heard before... Be yourself! Bravo History Channel! A hacky guy that's not very self-aware trying to be someone else woulda ruined season 6.
Good summary, but disagree with your tone or conclusion. And so would the actual contestants of season 6. Thanks for watching. God bless!

This is a big debate even among contestants… after meeting people at boot camp… I do know that everyone was definitely competent in the woods… it’s hard to really gauge how someone will respond when rubber hits the road!
They’re definitely looking for a variety of personalities… I think that’s priority #1… The longer the show goes, the more it costs… but it’s popular, so they have plenty of $$… I don’t think that’s the biggest consideration!

I got and email today from Alone, just going through the interview process. They are asking for $397 account set up fee.. is this a scam or did you pay for an account setup?

As far as I know, they are not casting right now. They were casting back in April… Which means they are in or near production now. Probably won’t be casting again until next February or so. Not sure who you’re actually talking to.

Alone is NOT the "chance of a lifetime." The show is a joke! I was contacted to be on Season 1. During the phone "interview" I asked them 2 basic questions. By their answers I knew that they (the production crew) were a joke and complete idiots, and I wanted no part of it. And most of the contestants on the show are complete idiots. There are a few - very few - exceptions to that, but for the most part, complete idiots, and the "boot camp" is another complete joke. Their instructors are morons!
The sole premise of 99.999% of the people who participate on that show is to garner their 15 minutes of fame, and the "fans" give them just that.
I don't want to be on the show. But wow.

"Alone is not fake" Um, yes it is. It's not actual survival as in an actual survival scenario you wouldn't be following stupid hunting laws. The are no laws when it comes to survival.
Also, you literally admit yourself that there a chance you won't be selected and it has nothing to do with knowledge of survival and more to do with your ability to film, act and be entertainment, not a survivalist.
This has all been proven by so called survivalists who claim to teach this exact stuff but can't last a week or start crying about being alone on a show called "alone"
Nearly every person that has went on this show has not even remotely done what needed to be done to survive. There is an order of doing things which is build your shelter, not a temporary shelter and go seek out food which can wait. Next is find a water source and know how to use it (how many idiots on this show who were nearby an ocean used the vapor distilled method to obtain fresh water and leftover needed sodium)? Not a single one and finally, find food. How many built a livewell? None did. How many built a dam to divert, trap and store fish? None.
I don't believe I seen anyone use a bird/squirrel snare lining a branch until the redemption series where dude used it completely wrong.
How many used the stupidity of seagulls to their benefit? A seagull will literally chase anything you throw in the air thereby making them another form of fishing.
How many went out at night when its the best time to go crabbing?
How many who actually brought a bow took the time to scout the area and hunt for one major source of meat that would supply them till the end by smoking it? None did, but there were some who walked directly on a game trail.
It seems the only way to get onto this show is to be a complete emotional moron and that was shown starting in season 2 when they began showing that they had to train these people and only one was actually able to make a friction fire.
You realize that some of the contestants have successfully taken big game, lots of fish, snared hares and squirrels etc?

Desperate … why do these love being on the telly. Especially so called survivalists. I would think a real survivalists is off grid, doesn’t need game or fortune and don’t have a telly…. Certainly not begging and share pictures of their babies on social media.
The Filming, the TV are part of the format of the Alone program. Not sure any of the contestants care about the format but they must sure care for the prize money, 500000 $ then and 1 million $ now. I guess that's why they're here rather than seeing their facebon TV.

I just watched an episode with a woman with MS in it. This is not being responsible it's looking for hype to sale add time.
She could have easily WON. She is the only one I’ve seen thriving, not just surviving. She just felt like her path was done. If you don’t know, she’s Nicole Apelian, author and well-known herbalist, who got herself out of a wheelchair from the MS using herbal remedies.
