That is a beautiful box set. Now I wish I'd picked it up during the half price sale! There are still several Fellini films I haven't seen, but my favorite has to be 8 1/2, followed closely by La Dolce Vita.
You could keep and thus use that ribbon to get the disc-set out, since that 'guide to the films' book niche has a small gap at the top which would make it easier to get it out anyway.

This box set is simply amazing. I’m enjoying each title so far (Nights of Cabria and La Strada, Satyricon, La Dolce Vita). Glad I picked up during the 50% off sale. Thanks for sharing and enjoy!
So far I would say La Strada. I’m blown away by Giuletta Masina’s performances in that film and Nights of Cabiria. Just a wonderful discovery for me and I’m falling in love with Fellini’s filmography. He was an amazing filmmaker.
I also got this during the sale and had some slippage, but no damage. I only watched “Variety Lights,” but also plan to go chronologically and am eager to get back into the films, features, and books after my Christmas viewing (I’ve seen several, but no more than half of these). By the way, I’m almost positive the ribbon (which easily fits under and over) is to easily get out the BD holder since that doesn’t have a finger groove, but the two books do. It makes it a lot easier to quickly retrieve the films without jimmying it and the books are still pretty easy to get out with the grooves.
Hope you enjoy the box set. I'm looking forward to studying the set over the winter. Funny thing about the ribbon is that it was just under the books only when I opened the set. I will check to see whether it is long enough to go under the Blu-ray holder so thanks for the suggestion. Happy Holidays!
Wow ! Looks so cool. Great video! I ordered it a month ago from a company here in Toronto who honor the Criterion sales but I didn't realize I had ordered it on back order and they still don't have it, so I just canceled it. I see its pretty low on Amazon at the moment fortunately!

great collection and one that seems very necessary considering essentials like La Dolce Vita and I Vitteloni are only available in the set, but i’m legitimately concerned about the packaging. seems like everyone has had displaced discs and the pouches seen very prone to producing scratches. has it been hard keeping the discs nice after multiple viewings/removal & insertion back into the box?
Hey Cinema Dave! Yeah, I bought this during the Barnes and Noble sale in November but haven't opened my copy up yet. I had a bunch of Fellini on Criterion before but when I saw that it some interesting special features, I decided to pull the trigger and buy it. La Dolce Vita is my favorite Fellini film and one of my favorite films of all time. I like the staying up till dawn, the decadence, the problems Marcello experiences with his friend, his peers, his fiancee and his father and I sort of personally relate to the film even though I am not a journalist. I decided to buy it because a friend of mine wanted it and he lives in the UK and they don't ship to the UK so I offered to ship it to him and he could reimburse me which he did. He came across some of the discs not being in their pockets but I think one of them was I vitelloni which he thought might be scratched but he played it and he came across no problems playing it. Anyways, thanks for sharing! I plan on doing a video on all the Criterions I've picked up during the sale and some of the ones that were released this month but I'm waiting for one more title to come in the mail.

Great video Dave, I have this on order not sure when I'll receive my copy, but will look out for disc damage upon arrival. I'm not a big fan of those style of disc holders at all.
Hi Rob. Yes, the disc holders are not the best. 3 films were dislodged even though the set was in a separate box inside the Amazon box. I looked at the back of the dislodged films and it seemed as though they had a few small scratches but I watched one all the way through including some of the supplements and all seems ok. Beautiful looking set. That ribbon looks long enough to me that you could hang it over the side of the box to make removing the 'book' holder for the discs easier. Enjoy. 😎😎😎

I got it paying 110 usd by Amazon.com which was very good price but I am a little disappointed with the set though the Art of the blu ray book is amazing. I don’t like at all the set because of the separately film and essay small books! I find much better the presentation of the Bergman and Agnes Varda slip box sets.
Depends on what type of films you enjoy but I'd say try one first before getting the box set. I started with Fellini's "8 1/2" but I think that "I Vitelloni" is a great starting point too. Happy New Year!
