- Devastated about Amy’s Illness | The Lion Whisperer. We’re extremely upset… our girl Amy has been diagnosed with acute aggressive monocytic leukemia. We’re doing everything possible to keep her comfortable and happy. Amy is responding well to cortisone treatment so we hope for improvement.

The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary’s mission is to provide a self-sustaining African carnivore sanctuary for the purposes of wild species preservation through education, awareness and funding, especially pertaining to the rapid decline of large carnivores in Africa due to habitat loss, human-predator conflict, unscrupulous hunting, disease and their illegal trade.
On this channel, The Lion Whisperer films the majority of his footage using a GoPro camera, allowing viewers to get as close as possible to the lions, leopards and hyenas at the sanctuary.
Kevin Richardson hopes to provide viewers insight into the lives of these beautiful creatures and in turn, by watching the videos on the channel, viewers will be directly contributing to the conservation of these majestic animals.

As soon as Kevin finished saying: she’ll just live her life until she can’t live it anymore, Meg got up and started roaring and it sounded like she was grieving and crying out right then and there.

Wasn't that powerful? These cats spend so much time with Kevin, they must understand him. That roar came from deep down in her soul. It was gut wrenching. Nooooo! Not my sister! It was absolutely the lion equivalent of crying together. I lost it at that moment.

I’m heart broken.💔 It will cause a crater in the hearts 💕 of those who have been following Amy and Meg. I think Kevin is right, I do believe that Meg knows something is not right. There are medical assist dogs that detect an oncoming seizure before they happen. Amy and Meg have been together all of their lives. Meg knows and she’s giving Kevin time with Amy. If Amy wasn’t sick, Meg would be laying on top of Kevin between him and Amy. Meg’s a very jealous girl. Amy, Meg, Kevin & the sanctuary crew please know you all going to be in my prayers. 🙏🏻

I started crying when Kev said that Amy has blood Cancer. Then the next day the sky rained down tears. The roaring of both Amy and Meg was magnificent and, it felt timely. Just read a comment that Amy passed and I'm crying again. She was so loved.❤

Last time I saw Meg roar was maybe 3,4 years ago. It was wonderful, I think she was communicating with Bobcat 🤔 There's footage of their mother Tabby roaring too on Kevin's Instagram page. And now to finally see Amy roar for the first time omg 😭 I feel complete 🙏.

It's Dec 22. I've just found out about Amy, and I am devastated. I've been watching these posts since the start of the year and am addicted. Little did I know about the dramas had already happened. It's just so, so sad. RIP Amy, you were a delight to watch. Love to all. Hope Meg is still OK.

Sadly, nobody gets better from monocytic leukemia. Pretty aggressive shit :( It is in the blood and bone marrow and will spread the cancer to every organ in the body. I can't even begin to know how Kevin feels right now. I'm so sad!

I got chills listening to the lions roar. I think they feel something is teribly wrong with Amy and they are like grieving for her.

I will swear I have never seen a more impressive and emotional moment in my life than when Meg and Amy started roaring together. The most godly, the purest expression of emotion. I firmly believe these wonderful creatures can be intuitive and understand pain. Amy will be remembered. 🤲

I lost my great dane to kidney disease she was only 3. Devastating doesn't even describe the pain.
Great words. My 9 year old cat who who was very fragile without me and always relied on me , stayed with me was killed by some people. I wish they understood this

@@joevenuti1201 Me too. I had 2 dogs that were bonded from birth & when the 1st one had to be put down, my other grieved so hard. It was so sad to witness & go through. Pets are family members, as it shld be. Feeling as bad as I do, I know Kevin's heart is breaking inside.
I keep thinking about how Meg will handle the loss, too. It was one of the first things I thought about when I heard the news about Amy. I rescue animals, mostly feral cats, and I am always very aware of close bonds and when I see a close bond between two animals I do everything I can to keep them together. It's hard not to think about how Meg will handle this in the future. No doubt Kevin is thinking about it, as well. He's seen this play out before with other lions closely bonded to each other when one passed away. I hope Amy has a lot more time than expected and surprises everyone.

@Kathy McInnis. They can smell it. Especially, when the organs begin to eat away, if not already. Sadly, he would be saving her a lot of pain, by going ahead and putting her to sleep.

@Darrow Au Andromedus What David is touching on and what Kevin was pointing out is true: That animals are in the present moment. They do not waste time and energy on worrying about the future like most humans do. Something many spiritual teachers speak about.
I also think from my own personal experiences with animals and from seeing many videos on animals closely bonded what happens when one dies that although animals do not understand time, they do understand loss. Too many stories written about it and filmed that show they do grieve. Elephants certainly do. Baby elephants many times die from grieve if they lose their mothers. Rhinos grieve deeply when they lose their mother. Many dogs never get over the loss of their owner or another do they have bonded with , etc.

My tears are falling while watching this. Kevin, I can see the pain and sorrow you feel in your face. We all know how much you love these girls. As we have watched throughout the years, we too, have grown to love them so. This is so heartbreaking.

@@davidharden7575 They were just trying to help. You never know. I saw a video the other day about a man that only had weeks to live an a vet suggested a type of de-wormer for his cancer. Since he literally had nothing to lose, he tried it. His cancer bills were millions and this med was $5.00. He is alive and well and his doctor is now doing studies and research on it. Of course, the med industry have started going up on their price on that, wouldn't you know.

This grown man cried. I have become attached in some way to these lions as a viewer i cannot imagine what you are going through Kevin. Thoughts and prayers to you your team and Amy from the USA.

That roaring was like the community of lions roaring their tribute to her. And when she roared back her response they listened in silence. I totally believe they knew what was to be.
I empathised with what a difficult time this was for Kevin and how torn he felt in whether to share her with us in these very intimate times. His voice was unsteady at the beginning and he had to process his grief while keeping on 'business as usual' despite feeling so very otherwise.
As a viewer and member I just wanted to say, thank you so much, Kevin, for sharing her last few months and days with us. It must not have been easy at all when you probably wanted to keep as much of her all to yourself in her fading days. I have come to know her from your book, past documentaries and your videos. She was very special. I really grieved for her passing as well and I hope that sharing her with us this way has helped to alleviate your grief in some small way too. If such similar videos do come up again in the near future and you are torn again on whether to share or spend your time privately with your beloved lion, hyena or black leopard, I want to let you know that I totally understand if you decide to keep it private. You are completely entitled. It doesn't and won't affect my membership commitment at all.
RIP Amy 😔 The world is not the same without your beautiful light. Your dad was motivated to build this sanctuary because of you and your sister. Your legacy lives on. Travel well. You are so missed 😢

watched all of meg and amy’s videos and my gosh, the moment when the pair of them started roaring out, i knew it was a special moment. kevin, i feel like that was for you. amy has needed you a lot and now’s the moment she needs you the most.
When I first heard heard about Amy I was crying she is such a beautiful and gentle lioness and watching Amy and Meg roaring together brought tears. Stay strong Amy, Kevin, Meg and team I send my love❤❤❤❤❤🙏

This is quite memorable🥰 and remorseful 😢 at the same time.
I've had cats as pets for over 30 years. Rescued many strays, found them homes and adopted many over the decades. It's always very, very hard to deal with an animal, whether injured, or ill, and then be told they're too hurt or too sick and won't be with you much longer. My first experience was having to make a decision to put my puppy down...I was about 8 yrs old and it was and still does hurt now at 73. I've, over the years, been with my cats up to and during the procedure of having them put down. I never leave them until they close their eyes for the last time. And I remember each one and still cry over the loss. Life and death are with us everyday. All you can do is your best for them.
I agree that animals know more than we think they do, and they have a wisdom that we have forgotten because we 'know' too much. So much love to Amy, Meg and Kevin, and all other lions and humans affected.
Reminds me of when my cat Napoleon passed away, he came inside he sat down, my other pets gathered around him and Napoleon meowed like saying goodbye 😭

Sadly, prayer does nothing. If there was a God for real, Amy wouldn't have got sick in the first place. Only Kevin's kindness and love, and Amy's strength, will pull her through this. If not, we can all know Amy was given the best life possible by a wonderful man and his helpers.
Death when it comes knocking would always be tremendously heartbreaking.
But from where I came from we are taught to celebrate the life that was lived rather on focusing on the thought of saying goodbye.
I wish all of Team Kevin strength in this hard times. We are with you.

The tenderness of Kevin applying the fly cream was so pure. I've seen footage of lions in the wild absolutely crawling with flies.
I had a male wild cat,a domesticated cat, appear one day in the country outside of my home, & become my troopadore.He lived with me for the next 10-15 years.He started to show the similar signes your Amy did.I had him tested & he too was diagnosed with feline leukemia.I showed him that mommy will always love him & give him the best days of his remainder of life.He liked cool places,sometimes total noncontact but I never stopped my total love & letting him constantly feel that love & commentmunt, & comfort.He lost all will to live no matter how much I struggled to forsee the remainder of his journey.At the end he was too weak & fable to continue & God let me know his time had come.So, I had the vet put him down. It has been over 10 years & I still feel his presence. I never ever can replace his love or beautiful life but I continue to always talk to him in my heart,soul & mind.It is exceptionally unbelievably hard to endure but I totally know he is playing & living his life with God & I will see him again when & if I ever by the grace of God be able to join him again in heaven.Take care & I will pray for Amy.

I'm with you. I had read about her illness on Facebook a few days ago, but it doesn't soften the blow. I just don't want Amy to suffer. And my heart breaks for Meg. They've been lifelong companions, sisters, through everything together. It will be devastating to Meg, and that hurts my heart.
I just discovered Kevin and these marvelous lions. I even know most of them by name now. When Meg started roaring, the tears started. You could tell she understood what Kevin said, and couldn't hold it in any longer. Who knew lions roared (cried) for their loved ones? Incredible.

I was okay until they both started roaring, lost it then. The fact he said: "Both Amy & Meg haven't roared together like that in a long time". Oh my goodness these beautiful beast of nature! As a respectful fan, having the appreciation of nature. You will not ever forget that sound.

I keep coming back to this and I lose myself every damn time. It's been quite some time since Amy left us and it's so so hard for me to get over this even after all these months. Dear Kevin, I have tears in my eyes as I write this. When you talk to Amy, ask her to let you know when she is ready to say good-bye. I'm sure Meg will know, and may mimic her actions, i.e., stopping eating...
You may find it healing to write Amy a letter (she will receive it in her heart and spirit) telling her how much you have cherished having her in your life. This can be private, and you can even read it to her.
Ask Meg and Amy to talk to you about what's in their minds. I'm thinking of Lawrence Anthony, and how he learned to listen and talk to the elephants. I always feel animals know exactly what we are thinking and doing. You may want to do this off-camera. Be very mindful with them. Listen with your heart.
Animals communicate on so many levels. I still marvel at how the elephants knew when Lawrence Anthony died. They just knew.
I believe thoughts are very powerful. All the love and prayers for Amy will help her in immeasurable ways.
There are no easy ways to cope with an illness and/or possible death of a dearly loved animal. Just take the lesson from Amy, truly living in the present, and be thankful for each day with her. Each day is a precious gift.
There is a homeopathic Bach Flower "Rescue Remedy," which you may find helpful during this time.

Yes. This. I've had experience with animal communicators and have had some success trying it myself. Maybe it would be something Kevin would be interested in trying with them, or having a professional come out. It might be a way to lessen the blow for Meg.

This was by far ... absolutely the most difficult video for me to watch. There's just nothing you can do but feel the sorrow from losing this most majestic and incredibly beautiful lioness. I can't imagine how Kevin deals with all the sadness when it comes 😔 to the loss of any of his incredible animals. I just cried. Thank you Kevin for giving a better understanding from an animal's perspective 🦁💔🐾

Unlike other kevin love them with respect and compassion for them to feel special and alive. They live their life where their will of opinion is respected to kevin.

when they were all roaring I felt like they were saying ' Listen to us! we are Lions! Amy's spirit will live on forever'. So much to learn from these animals.

When they roared in unison, it was almost like a roar of defiance. I wept at that moment. Sad, sad news.
I agree, John. It also appeared to me that their roaring, was tearing Kevin's heart in two. Not only losing Amy, but I know he is concerned about the major affect it will have on Meg. So he has to deal with both. Can't even imagine the amount of grief Meg will feel and exhibit, after her sister has passed. I know how much Kevin loves all of his lions, but these two are his heart. Gut wrenching time for all of us to come. God bless.
Patriot Girl The lions are pride animals. They aren’t meant to be alone. Meg and Amy refused every male Kevin tried to put in with them...yes they would have beaten them up. But the thought of Meg being alone is heart breaking. I wonder if after she is alone for awhile if she would accept a female or maybe even a male for company?

I think they knew what was happening! I think the roaring signified their grieving and expressing their love for each other!
The same time Amy was going through this, so was my Rotty Mcgregor. He passed away Jan 3. It took me a month to be able to see this video as it brings me to my pain. The bottom line is we know these animals had the best mom and dads and we can at least feel better that we gave them all the love they needed. I truly believe they are somewhere doing God's work worshiping and they live on.

Breaks my heart, but knowing that she has so far lived a life surrounded by so many that love her and care for her, you couldnt ask for anything more than that.
That is how I got through it, my beautiful Cat at 19, it hurts very much, but they are in peace and no longer in pain.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how much Kevin adores all the lions, leopards and hyenas in his care and how hard it is for him to lose them

I went through this recently with a beloved horse. He is gone now. I had him for 17 years. The day the end came I knew. He started to suffer. He will always be with me💔

@Lisek Tod In the beggining, there wasn't any sicknesses, no injuries, no violence, just peace and love and praising the Lord while He walked with us, up until the man sinned and failed God, God always wanted us to have a peaceful and happy life filled with harmony and love, for He is love, even though we all are so imperfect but He still loves us and still with His mercy wants to save us so then when it's time, we will arrive to that peaceful and glorious place in the prescence of God, Jesus said He had to go but He would prepare a place for us so than we shall live with Him just like Adam and Eve did, because He was, is, will always be almighty and loving, He's been there since the start and intercedes for each soul, He just wants what's best for you, but He doesn't want to just barge into your heart, you have to give it to Him and your life and walk with Him, which can be hard but He is our peace, our love, our healer, our consult, He is here for everyone and time is running out, I hope you can think about this for a bit and go to a church and accept Christ as your only and True Savior, God bless you and your family, shall He save us and lead us to that glorious day where we will be in His all loving and powerful prescence, have a great day and night. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
