    do you have a general recommendation regarding the number of fine-tuners on a viola? Thanks for this great vibrato video

    • @RonaldHouston
      @RonaldHouston  Před rokem +1

      That's entirely up to you! Definitely an a string tuner.. A d string tuner can also be helpful.. And.. If you think necessary.. Get a Wittner tailpiece that has all 4 tuners... It depends on many things.. If your pegs are adjusted really well.. It is easy to tune with pegs.. Some are not fitted as well and VERY difficult to turn.. Or ... They slip.. So sometimes a good peg tuneup... Or replacement can help!

    The hardest thing to do is to stay relaxed and do the exercises

    Professor, I find it difficult to do vibrato without my shoulder rest. Without it, my thumb stiffens and clamps to the neck as if I would drop my instrument. Is there something I could do to fix this? Thank you!

    • @RonaldHouston
      @RonaldHouston  Před rokem +1

      Try using a cosmetic sponge...the red kind.. It will help to keep your instrument steady!!! Also... Practice with your viola scroll against the wall to support the instrument till you figure this out!!

    Does your thumb move up or down the neck depending on which finger you are doing the vibrato with?

    • @RonaldHouston
      @RonaldHouston  Před 9 měsíci +1

      That is one great question! If you noticed that, I continually move my thumb while I am playing to promote flexibility and fluidity. I always feel that if something is MOVING then it does not have TENSION! I should do a video about this! Thank you for your wonderful comment!
