  • In this video I get dispatched to a call where a customer is upset with how the last contractor left his HVAC system. He blames them for his mold issues. But is it really the last guys fault? Let’s find out!
Plus a no cooling call with a compressor that won’t start!

Nice job brother, ran a call at a high school today, complaining of no a/c , check superheat zero subcool 3 degree, check air filter plugged change air filter still no change with subcool or superheat pump split down pull apart at evaporator looked in a found no piston or TXV , the bad part is this system I was told has been running for almost 2 years and others have said there was nothing wrong, I was asked today why there has been (2) compressor changed
    Take a guess 🤔

Ductboard OMG that entire mess needs replaced. carry some lightweight coveralls in your truck,it will make you feel better about crawling around under the house

The duct install is substandard to say the least. The use of tape is to seal the duct not holding it together. The first leak is because the duct was not connected properly and stapled to hold it together. The second leak is because there is not a metal tap to mechanically connect the branch run. You can at this point just tape it up like your did. But it is only temporary. A duct installer is needed here.

Adhesive spray, tape and mastic and it's going to suck. Hopefully he can be charged a lot for this 😂

Curious as to why the did not use duct sealant on all the connections on the trunk line.

    Jeff, I have difficulties hearing
How do I know if the compressor is running other than the noise at start up or during the running process?
    thanks for your help.

You can feel the air being discharged from the top. If it just feels like ambient temperature chances are the compressor isn’t running or it’s extremely low on refrigerant.

Company's really need to stop using that cheap duct board. Metal duct and wrapped is the only way to go IMO.

I have to agree duct board is junk. With fiberglass if mounting and air handler on a stand that takes duct board at 1 and half inch.
Why not just use ap faced polyiso high demsity foam board like John mansville less expensive.
But for anything else like the ductwork itself I have to agree good old fashioned sheet metal but flexabke duct can be connected to it but still if solid round metal can be used just use it.
I also have to agree too many installers and hvac guys just seem to be in a hurry and a rush and do not pay attention to the little details.
And then when confronted go ohh that's normal or ohh I did nothing wrong.
    And I hate that.
When you are dealing with expensive equipment you need to not do a half ass job.
So now I will use a car example my mechanic said I needed a new control arm the one I had had the ball joint on it.
I paid over 100 dollars for the part myself and the mechanic removed the ball joint that came with my new control arm and reused the factory one but did not return to me the ball joint that came with my new arm that he did not use which is greasable.
And that to me is messed up.
Especially if the custumer supplies you the part.
Another example hvac company insists they have to wrewrap my hvac duct insolation the way I had it.
I told them no I will do it when you leave and the hvac guy pulls out my hvac duct insulation that I paid for and uses it anyway does not do it like I had it leaving the fiber glass exposed and had to spend an extra 30 dollars buy a new roll after he left buy new hvac tape.
And redo it all over again.
And Jeff that actually happened to me.
And that was the last straw with me with the hvac company I was using.
And then discovered the comfort pac they ripped me off with was not even the correct unit. For my square footage.
And as I told you in other comments my space is 1200 square feet and requires a heat pump.
    So an 18'000 btu unit
is grossly undersized or as Ted cook demonstrated Mr anti diy an old r22 unit from 1987 or 1990 at 1 and half tons or 2 tons may have been correct then for square footage at 1200 square feet but for today's standards is way grossly undersized especially for cooling.
Anyway that is what put me on a path with hvac to learn as much as I can so I dont ever have to deal with a crappy bad hvac company again.
And with me I hate when I hear I will only install what I sell or I only sell one company stuff like Lennox
Well guess what it you don't sell something that will work for what I need and my space and confirms to the hoa rules of my condo community which will not allow me to mount a condenser out back on the ground or directly on the balcony then again I have no choice but to find a unit that will confirm to what Is allowed.
So that's how I ended up having to purchase a Mr cool universal because that was one of 3 companies that make units that don't need a wall sleeve and can be wall mounted on a bracket like a mini split and will allow me to get that awful wall sleeve out once and for all and get the penetration in the wall covered.
Anyway sorry to rent but 300 dollar electric bills and having to run a portable 14,000btu for the upstairs too makes me cranky.
And having to hold in place a towel with a 2by4 board on the crappy comfort pac so water can't leak in from the outside and rot out my studs.
Because someone was lazy and could not do the job right after charging 10 grand.
And then went I did nothing wrong I will send you the pictures via email Jeff so you can see.
Why I am still so mad as I can't afford to fix it right now and get my new unit in.

@@JeffsHVACAdventures thanks I will post photos and send you an email as I have some questions based off of the wiring that is still there from the old in wall unit.
But right now my thinking is the bare minimum the later get the duct work and wiring completely redone.

@@JeffsHVACAdventures sent you an email with some pictures and a long description and some questions concerning maximum amp fuse ratings and about if I could add supplies to the existing ductwork until I can get everything redone properly but I know I need to more supplies upstairs and at least one return for know for my big upstairs bedroom which is around 450 to 500 square feet. It has only one supply right now with no return anywhere upstairs but I know long term I know I will need to get a return in the hallway and one more small one in the back bedroom but that square footage is only maybe 150 square feet.
