  • How To Get Out of A Clinch and Land a Punch. Tom Yankello of the @World Class Boxing Channel teaches what you can do when you get tied up or clinched in a fight. Tom will show you how to get out of the clinch and land the left uppercut. If you are fighting on the inside, Tom shows you the exact head placement of your head, then you under hook your opponent and tilt him to his left which will automatically release any strength he has on your arm. The head placement is important as it prevents the opponent from having any stability. Tom shows you how to do this from the opposite angle so that you can land the right uppercut. He also explains how to use your hip turn to throw more power to getting your arm dislodged and land the uppercut with force. This is an extremely effective way to break the clinch!

I have a small kickboxing club, and Tom Yankello has greatly improved my boxing abilities, as well as everyone who trains here, or ever will train here. Thank you Tom!

Tom is not a coach, he is a doctor and nothing less. He’s been blessed with brilliance.

I wish a Coach spent more time with Mike Tyson on this clinch break during his career.
Once fighters seen Tyson gets frustrated and unraveled from clinch everybody was doing. Especially after his skill set was slipping away and Mike became a brawler.

Wow awesome! This technique is applicable not only in boxing but in mixed martial arts and street self-defense as well in my opinion! Especially on the street if you are a good boxer and someone tries to tie you up this technique is where it's at!

Among everything else that Loma did well in last night's bout against Commey, his clinch game was masterful. It's likely no coincidence that this video came out when it did.

Hey Coach, as a wrestler I don't think you need to keep the head in at the beginning to use the underhook. An underhook pull is the most effective when the hips are in, and that automatically raises your head back up. In wrestling we keep the head in as a way of getting a lower center of gravity while pushing our opponent, so I could see it being used to get pressure back from your opponent before using the underhook, but it seems less effective to use your head to initiate the underhook pull. Also, I've seen Lomachenko and GGG use it to dissuade their opponents from punching while in the clinch because the pushing with the head misaligns the opponent's head and they can't get in position to strike, so it would be more preventative that way. Thanks for the content!

How do you introduce your students to sparring coach? Do you tell them to go 100% straight away or are you more cautious than that? How do you help the beginners to deal with their fear?
