The Who are a one of the great British rock bands from the 60's-70's. They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century & have sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have so many great songs such as "I Can't Explain", "The Kids Are Alright", "My Generation", "Substitute", "Happy Jack", "I Can See For Miles", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Baba O'Riley", "Behind Blue Eyes", "Boris The Spider", "Pictures Of Lily", "Magic Bus", "Who Are You" etc. The group's 1969 concept album "Tommy" included the single "Pinball Wizard".

The great underrated Pete Townsend! John Entwistle, RogerDaltrey and ya gotta do some live stuff with Keith Moon on drums! The Who were so awesome, don’t even know where to start when it comes to how great and unique their music was! Both your reactions are a pleasure to watch! It’s like you both were there in the 60’s and 70’s and beyond enjoying the music with us! Love your reactions! And you both know great music when you hear it! Wish you could have been at the concerts with us all!

Roger Daltry is the front man and lead vocalist (and one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time). He led the band in the early times but, eventually, it became clear that Pete Towsend, the lead guitarist on stage, was the one who had the drive, the talent, the writing and producing skills and he became the leader. Truly one of the most prolific and successful bands of the era and, really, in rock history. Love your reaction.

It's funny....this song played for 35 or so years on the radio with the F-bombs intact (yes, the "foul language" is on the studio cut).
It was only within the last 10 years or so that the Morality Police noticed them and had them changed to "Hell". Sad, really.
We were less uptight in the 70's.... until Al and Tipper Gore went after Twisted Sister in the late 80's.

The reason Pete Townsend is wearing a sleeve on his hand is because only a few nights earlier he impaled the webbing between his fingers with the whammy bar while he was doing windmills on the guitar. I saw the British leg of this tour - The Who ‘big band’. Judging by Pete’s bandaged hand, I wonder if this is the tour where one of Pete’s famous windmills drove the tremolo arm on his guitar right through his hand. Fortunately it missed all the important bits and did no lasting damage (one hopes). Pete was concerned about his hearing on this tour (he had been for some time) and I was worried as we were sat way at the back of the National Exhibition Centre that they might come over too quietly. Needn’t have worried - the opening chords of ‘Can’t Explain’ plastered me into my seat! To see other great clips watch them rampage through Mose Allison's ‘Young Man Blues live at the Isle of Wight Festival (a comparison with Allison’s original illustrates just how hard and manic The Who’s retread is). Also their short set at the New York Concert For 9/11 is blistering - as Queen were to Live Aid, here The Who completely steal the show. God help whoever had to follow them!

I saw them a few days before this show... at the Tacoma Dome south of Seattle in Tacoma... It was the same show... almost.. because at the end of our show, the guitarist Pete Townsend cut his hand really bad on his whammy bar when he was swinging his hand around. Its why he has a bandage on his hand here.

Back when this first came out, it was one if not the very first songs that dropped an F-Bomb. We all looked at each other with astonishment that they actually left that word on the radio. Most of the top 40 stations of the time cut it out but the more fun edgy FM stations let it ride. I remember seeing them in one of their many Fairwell tours, Roger Daltry jogged almost the entire show... I guess that's what coke with do for you. It was nice to see Peter Townsen with his patented windmill power chords... always a good show. An amusing story... one of the concerts I saw them at was at the ASU activity Center in Phoenix, there was a power outage for almost 45 minutes and much to the crowd's delight, Peter came out and started sweeping the stage, they eventually came back to finish the show.

Roger Daltrey is the only member of the band that DIDN'T do hard drugs. He has famously said he's never done a single line of coke. It's just not his thing. He sparingly used sleeping pills after shows because he couldn't fall asleep. Was never a big drinker. And has been married to the same woman for over 50 years. Pete was the musical genius, but Roger is the stability and "Daddy" of the band.

Not mentioned, but all music you listen to by The Who, must be played at maximum volume.
    It's a law.

Please listen to " won't get fooled again" Don't know if there is quality live version but studio version is just as good. Or "let's see action", humanity needs to hear this. It reminds me of chuck d's words.

This live version was done without the original drummer Keith Moon, who was a maniac on on the drum kit... Moon passed away in 1978 from a drug OD 😪just after the recording of the album "Who are you"... The surviving 3 members (guitarist Pete Townshend, vocalist Roger Daltrey & bassist John Entwistle) of The Who announced they would carry on w/ session drummers, but they lost that power and drive that Keith Moon had given them. They decided to disband The Who in the mid-80's, but they kept reforming to play live shows over the next few decades.
In 2001, The Who delivered a memorable set at the Concert for New York City after the 9/11 attacks... they were set to tour again in 2002, when bassist John Entwistle passed away. The Who kept going w/ Pete Townshend & Roger Daltrey hiring session players... recorded 2 new albums since...
The Who came together in London in the early 60's, playing American R&B songs... Roger Daltrey (vocals) brought in John Entwistle (bass) and Pete Townshend (guitar) and The Who was 1 of the names they used. Finally, a young drummer named Keith Moon introduced himself to the band w/ his explosive drumming... that completed the band. In 1965, they had settled on the name The Who and Pete Townshend attempted to write an original song and came up w/ "I can't explain" which became a minor hit... The Who got signed and began to work on original songs; Pete Townshend and John Entwistle became the primary writers, but Pete Townshend's songs became the prominent ones.
By 1967, the single 'My generation' was taking off in the UK and US... The Who were making headlines when they would end their explosive sets by destroying their equipment on stage... Pete Townshend would smash his guitar and Keith Moon would trash his kit... The Who appeared on American TV in 1967 performing 'My generation' and were expected to trash their instruments at the end... Keith Moon had a small cannon in his kit that was supposed to make a bang, but he secretly loaded the cannon w/ gunpowder. At the end of the song, he set off an explosion in the studio that nearly took Pete Townshend's head off on camera! The Who had arrived.
The Who also broke ground in 1969 creating the first 'rock opera' album 'Tommy' that became a huge hit... The 70's saw The Who graduate to an arena band after the 1971 album "Who's next"... and would become 1 of the biggest live bands of the 70's... Unfortunately, alcohol and drug abuse began to affect the band and Keith Moon was the 1 most caught up, trying to be an outrageous rock star off stage as well.
Ironically, Keith Moon passed away on an OD of pills he was prescribed to curb his alcoholism in 1978, ending the original band. His frantic drumming skills were legendary on The Who's live records... particularly their 1970 release 'Live at Leeds'.

Who concerts were epic. The energy from the stage and the crowd was amazing. To hear twenty thousand fans singing the chorus line to this and many other songs touches your psyche. Signed: Loyal Wholigan since 1966
