    I've watched a few of your videos now great work may I just say thank you for your great effort you put into these videos I've recently done photography and video photography at college and understand the many hours that go into editing alone 🙏🤟 but I was abit disappointed not not see the once famous "Woodend Hospital" Eday road I know some History about it how I believe it one of the oldest ones and did serve during WW2 was interested to see what information you could find out as I just stay 10 mins away from there and the architecture inside it is amazing 👏

      Hi - thanks for the kind comment! Yes these projects are definitely a time soak, anyone who does this kind of thing will tell you the same. Never be discouraged if your productions seem to be taking ages to see to completion - that’s normal! I definitely did cover Woodend but I think I initially refer to it in the video as Oldmill which was it’s original name.

    You missed St Peter's Hospital, established in the late 12th century, after which the Spital is named. While used primarily for palliative care for elderly priests and monks (so arguably more a hospice than a hospital) until the late 15th century, it later expanded into caring for lepers, making it more of a "proper" hospital...

      Hi Janet - thanks for the comment.
      My list is certainly not definitive. I think you'll find the following link interesting it's the most comprehensive list I found while researching this video: historic-hospitals.com/gazetteer/aberdeen/ - Fonthill Maternity and Summerfield Infectious Diseases are among about 8 sites I elected not to include in this video simply because there wasn't much to say about them or show, I think it would have made the video longer and not contributed much to the content. Glen O Dee is out in Banchory so a bit further afield than I wanted to cover in the video. I'd have loved to cover other sites like Thomas Walker which is now a warehouse - but had to draw the line somewhere geographically. The site I linked also has a page on Aberdeenshire's hospitals that covers these.

    Cool video, funnily enough you pronounced Edinglassie correctly but Newe is pronounced Nyow (rhymes with miaow as in a cats miaow) rather than New. I guess it's the same and comes from the doric pronounciation of ewe (sheep) which is yow rather then yoo.

    • @duthies
      @duthies  Před 7 měsíci

      I think that mispronunciation is a bit of a running joke in my videos but but actually something I'm interested in learning more about. I'm never quite sure with place names as they could be derived from a couple of languages on this coast. Thanks for your comment Darren!

    Kingseat was not the better of the two in regards to cornhill and their treatment practices.

    • @duthies
      @duthies  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I imagine that would have been the case - certainly toward the end as that seems to be how it goes with these things. Note I did qualify that it seemed pleasant "in theory" - I remember the Cornhill buildings looking quite foreboding when I was younger - always thought they were a bit creepy - but of course they were derelict at the time.

    Thanks mate. I think the Victorians were far smarter than us, especially having a separate hospital for infections. What we have now is stupid. I cannot think of another word. Someone coming into A & E (ARI) with infection will quickly spread right it across the the entire campus.
    We watched the film idiocracy and it has happened 500 years early.
    Your thoughts?

    • @duthies
      @duthies  Před rokem +1

      I think the Victorians were fantastic innovators - so much of what we take for granted today is built on their ingenuity - and their infrastructure has stood the test of time. While there have been some startling scientific breakthroughs and refinements in technology in the last few decades - actual new inventions are becoming rarer and rarer. What "new" things we develop tends to be built on the innovation of the past. We are standing on the shoulders of giants.

    • @rayw3294
      @rayw3294 Před rokem

      My thoughts exactly. More managers than doctors. And a lot of the doctors as thick as 2 very thick planks.
      In Victorian days, you got to the top because you were good. Now, through brown nosing.
      And they were far better healthcare. With less of our modern knowledge.
      It is all about health Fascism. How to spoil people's happiness with crap healthcare. Then look at the crap in supermarkets, endorsed by the health fascists. (Justifying their existence). You can not buy anything without rapeseed in it. What the hell in earth is that. A totally indigestible seed oil. When we humans for millions of years eat animal fat. They reckon this crap has been going on for 60 years. By these pathetically useless health fascists. And worse now. Do we have actual doctors looking into this crap.
      Victorians ate more sugar, but not this seed oil crap.
