      My recollection is that during the 90s, high profile players stopped committing to State Of Origin, not sure if that was team orders or not but I tend to agree, why risk the health of your players for a ‘nothing game’

    • @kronicgames92
      @kronicgames92 Před 6 lety +13

      Lunch I guess the same could be said with the state of origin, it’s not part of the regular competition but you still have the best players playing. I could imagine a lot of players playing for the pride of their state. Plenty of non victorians hate Melbourne and a lot of victorians hate other states. Would be cool to see the rivalry again!

      It is not going to happen anytime soon as the clubs do NOT want any layers injuring themselves. The AFL do have the EJ Whitten Legends Match where the former players play and its always great to watch. You could argue that the skill level in this match is not as high, considering they are retired players. Like I said before the AFL and its clubs won’t bring it back anytime soon.

      It was ok at best. Largely a bruise-free game with not much tackling and players playing nowhere near what they would in a regular AFL match. 2009 St Kilda vs Geelong R14 was a proper high quality and tough game of football with players really going in hard at it and digging deep to try and win the game. Rugby has State of Origin, International matches, World titles, etc......& soccer & basketball has other comps, not just their club leagues.
    & yet footy clubs are allowed to dictate to the AFL & keep footy down to what is a basically a club sport..
