  • Time for a race diffuser. it's a simple design diffuser with a large center section in the middle separated by diffuser strakes. Add a few vortex generators and the diffuser is done! • Building the Fastest. ... Here is where I build the fastest Clio.

    I’m glad I found your channel. I’ve been doing composites work since about 2002, but I still love to see people work with it. Definitely not enough composite videos out there. I’ve watched a few of your videos today and I love how you approach a problem/challenge and just get it done! Great work!

    Really like this, just want to add it might help performance if your able to run the endplates/strakes closer to the ground to reduce tire wake from getting drawn into the diffuser. Love how you show it doesnt take alot of money to make a mold.

    But with the slight curve to your diffuser and how gradual it is. I doubt you would of had any air attachment issues. But otherwise it’ll work great I think.

    Thanks for sharing your effective techniques. For testing, If you fit suspension height sensors, one on a front control arm, one on a rear, like those use on Audi, for instance to aim the xenon light bulb angle or any car with an airbag setup, you can data log the change in downforce at speed. The lower the car gets at any given speed, the more downforce you are generating. Useful for comparisons of the effects of changes. The height sensors have are nothing more that a rotary variable resistor switch with an arm instead of a knob. Constant signal voltage in, and a ground, yields variable voltage out depending on suspension movement. Perfect? no, low tire pressure can hide some of the downforce through tire bulge, but still for back to back runs while making tweaks for angle of attack, it could be useful.

  • @onemorelap_
    @onemorelap_ Před 3 lety +1

    Great work on the diffuser. Although I think your understanding of vortex generators is slightly off. (Edit. Corrected below)
    Vortex generators create the 'vortex' by disturbing the laminar flow and detaching the boundary layer from the surface. Hence why they are normally found at the top rear of the roof - to *stop* the air flow following the rear window (where it would be creating lift). So I believe your positioning of vortex generators would lead to a reduction in the effectiveness of your diffuser.

      @@RuskiWeldFab well this is embarrassing. I've had to look back at my dissertation in aerodynamics from 2012 (yes, I literally wrote a book on this topic 😅🤦) and agree that my previous post is incorrect.
      Whilst vortex generators can be designed and positioned to purposefully separate flow, your example should work well, good job 👍

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab  Před rokem +1

      Great point! a lot of it is guess work. with some help from aerodynamic gurus who are happy to help with advice. i have done some tuft testing in the past. but have no idea how to make anything of the data i get lol. plan is to scan the car and find someone to CFD it.

      @@RuskiWeldFab I'm working on a 125cc kart atm. Just started with the rebuild after stripping and painting the frame. Once the kart is working properly I'm thinking of putting some aero on it.
