you will learn Tagalog, if you are friendly, even if you buy something for a sidewak vendor, when you ask something, they will teach you the correct way. Ex. there a food station or carenderia where you like the food & coming back & ordering . you start by friendly respect, polite , courteous, asking the name of the food, when the vendor see you daily eating their food & said to them its a good taste to you. that the time, you can ask words yo need to ask even, you make a friendly gesture o them. bec, they seen you more than once. Too early to regret, Filipino are happy people(MASAYAHIN) & willing to help(HANDANG TUMULONG) mga Filipino ,even the grey hair/old people or, children, if you ask politely to them.

Hello and welcome to my beautiful country. You can just use the word "po" at the end of your English sentence and you will sound a taglish (Tagalog+English) tagalog speaker because "po" use to show respect with the people you are talking to, like for example instead of saying "good morning" "thank you" "Okay" or "where" putting po at the end of your sentence will sound you like a local: "good morning po" "thank you po" "where po" "Okay po" Tagalog is not that hard to learn tagalog especially if you are around Filipino friends.

Don't let this stop you from speaking in English. Now as for Tagalog, bear in mind that it is basically syllable-based so you can start from there. Ah-Eh-Eeh-Oh-Ooh, Bah-Beh-Bee-Boh-Boo, Kah-Keh-Kee-Koh-Koo (A,E,I,O,U - Ba,Be.Bi,Bo,Bu - Ka, Ke, Ki, Ko, Ku, etc)

Tagalog is just one of the hundreds of dialects in the Phil but it is the most common and the dialect that is undestood well by most of the Filipinos nationwide. However little Tagalog you know, try to speak it. I am sure the Pinoys will not make fun of you when you mispronounce some words or you cannot translate your thoughts well in Tagalog. They will even help you learn the language. Just keep on trying. Enjoy your student life in the Phil and get the most of your stay there.
