Here's his explanations cleaned up for everyone to understand:
First off, an alternator is essentially an electric generator that initially produces alternating current, but unlike an electric generator which has static, permanent magnets and starts producing electricity once it starts rotating, the alternator has field windings, and it cannot start producing electricity until an outside current is applied to induce a magnetic field while the alternator is rotating.
    1) Wiring
    a. Excitor wire - feeds the field windings the electricial energy needed to start the electricial generating operation.
    b. Remote voltage sensor (RVS) - computerized lead that dictates how much voltage to apply to the battery to keep the battery's charge maintained.
    c. Battery wire - the direct pipeline from which all generated electricity from the alternator is fed into the battery.
    2) Voltage regulator - the processing center of the alternator which has three terminals: RVS input, field circuit input (FCI) (excitor wire conects to this lead), and field circuit output (FCO). Basically the voltage regulator takes the two inputs, interprets them, and sends its results through the FCO.
    3) Rotor - the rotating assembly inside the alternator that, when energized, interacts with the stator windings (see 4) to produce the magnetic field needed to generate electricity. The rotor's energy comes from the FCO via two brushes which contact a copper slip ring and gets fed through the rotor's windings.
    4) Stator - consists of 3 windings (3 phase) anchored to the inside of the alternator casing and do not rotate. The stator works in conjunction with the rotor and its windings to produce the alternating current.
    5) Bridge rectifier - consists of six diodes which converts alternating current into direct current. There are two diodes per phase, and half the diodes separate the current to positive and the other half separate to negative.
    6) Capacitor - acts as an electricial settling tank and allows the rectified current to smooth out.
    7) Diode "trio" - a sequential arrangement of three diodes in which the smooth direct current passes through before being sent to the FCI terminal of the voltage regulator.
There you have it... in a nutshell.

Second I have a Battery powered lawn mower.
I had and Idea to attack a pully wheel to the turning motor so as the lawn mower turns from the battery it will spin the alternator and thus attach the power to the battery and charge the Batterie at the same time it's being used so it dies less quickly!
    Is this possible?

good video. Question though. I intend to run a larger pulley on a race car alternator to bring shaft speed down. Does lowering rpm (specially at idle) put more strain on alternator to produce current? or is it, no more load or strain, just need to be careful not to lower too much so not producing enough current.

I loved your analogy about ' It takes money to make money!' Well...what if there was a way to use magnets to get that pulley to spin? What if you did not need an Exciter wire? Are you saying that if we found a way to "excite" that pulley that we could get that alternator charging a battery? I think there is a way to make money (energy) using magnet placement outside of the alternator. Have you researched how a magnet can not only levitate but also spin due to magnet placement and shape? :)

Since the battery light works and the suppressor has been replaced I suspect it is due to not having that initial magnetism you talk about. I always believed the alt puts the charge back into batt that was used for starting , then after that the alt runs engine ign , lights etc etc. That is why i can disconnect the battery and evan drive vehicle around the block with no battery installed. Can you explain a bit more regarding the alt running everything rather than everything running of battery and alt continually charging batt. Because that is how you seem to come across. I thought generators required regulators to regulate voltage to the battery while alternators alternate necessary current inside themselves via a diode? Alternators therefore do not use that added box on the firewall called a regulator? It is all internal to the alternator which is why alternators replaced regulators.
