      He underestimated the power of David’s training and mind. It doesn’t matter what kind of fighting you practice. Technical ability and doing the same thing every time will always win in most cases

      Goliath came to him with javelin, spear and sword. David came to him in the name of the Living God. Of course he had no chance.

      @@chickenzzzzzzzzz Modern scholars believe Goliath had acromegaly or gigantism ( like Andre the Giant and tallest man ever Robert Wadlow ). This a medical disorder that, if left unchecked, eventually causes eye disorders and physical deformity necessitating assistance to move - see Wadlow. So.. Goliath was legally BLIND and CRIPPLED.
      Shepherd boys were EXTREMELY skilled with a sling as it was their ONLY defense against predators.
      So ... Goliath NEVER had a chance against David the slingman.

    Very cool. It is worth noting that there were MANY very VERY accurate slingers in the ancient world. The Balearic slingers were some of the best; but it was their bravery as well as their skill that set them above historically.

      Absolutely. The thought of 300-500 of these dudes ahead of the front lines chucking these sharp rocks through shield to cause injuries before the front line moved in is mesmerizing. The ancient world was ruthless and very tactical

    I have done some sling work in the past, using slings I made of different lengths. I never had much accuracy (nothing like what we see here), but a sling can move a rock a very long distance and at very high speeds at shorter distances. If the rock connects with the human head, then it's lights out.

    Wow. Not sure it's obvious, but the massive spin put on the rock required he aimed LEFT of target so it'd curve back to center.

    • @davidmorningstar
      @davidmorningstar  Před 3 měsíci

      I'm going to disagree here. Stones do not curve in flight unless they have very flat faces and they can turn suddenly when the angle catches the slipstream right. Tennis balls curve pretty obviously because they are much lighter and have much more surface area.
      What you can see here is the downward curve due to gravity, but the offset angle of the camera makes it look like it curves sideways as well.

      a sling have longer ranges than the most powerful of medieval bows.. aka the long bow or composites.. any pro will reach past 400 meters with well shaped 50 grams lead pieces, of course, not with this accuracy, but in war times it was about making it rain stones on the enemy from long range, not aiming at single targets.

    Judges 20:16 - Among all this people were 700 select men who were left handed; every one could sling a stone at a hair's breath and not miss. Now besides Benjamin, the men of Israel numbers 400,000 men who drew the sword; all these were men of war.
    (1100 BC)
    1 Samuel 17:40 - Then David took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand.
    17:48 - So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fall on his face to the ground. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him.
