I am a retired older adult. I have zero $$$ for a clothing budget. Luckily, at the apt complex where I live, there is a giveaway area where residents, staff, family, etc. leave unwanted clothing and household items. Sometimes these items are new with the tags on them.
I am so blessed to have this resource. Sometimes I have to do a little mending ...add a button or two....or alterations to make it work for me. God is good!
You seem so sweet! Being grateful is super important!
What a lovely soul you are! Stay blessed and may God keep providing
That's wonderful and what a good idea for other complexes :)
Amen to that.
Good for you!
I do buy fast fashion stores (every store basically is at this point, no matter the price point) but i make them last. I repair torn seams. I patch holes when i can. I hand wash my clothing and wear them multiple times before a wash. Fast fashion's quality is low but if taken care of like how people cared for their clothes decades ago...they can work for any budget. Just extra effort
Yes! I line dry everything, lasts many years this way!
I see what you mean and it's fantastic that you could make it work out for you. The problem with fast fashion is not just quality. It's the ethical repercussion of giving money to companies that exploit children and women to sew our pieces of clothing.
Why not try thrift shopping? You can take care of those fast fashion items but not supporting them directly since you did not directly buy the clothes from the company.
Yep. I bought a shirt from F21 in 2011 and it lasted until 2016.
... or you could just thrift???
My mother died about six weeks ago, she was an amazing person and loved sewing, I love this video and remembered to re watch it.Thank you.
I love this. I feel like I just watched an incredible short-length documentary. Did no one comment on it being the same dress? I know we are typically way more aware of ourselves than others are of us, but I'm curious if anyone noticed that it was the same piece rather than just noticing you were wearing black every day.
Chasing the Look "People didn’t notice or if they did, they didn’t say anything to me." She wrote this in the blogpost :)
Thanks, Valeria! I'll go check out the post.
I've been doing something similar with a pair of jeans I bought a few months ago. Only my roommate has noticed that I wear basically the same thing (jeans with the same sweater and jacket--I do change my shirt) everyday... FOR WEEKS. Seriously, most people are not paying any attention.
In my experience people notice, but they don’t say anything.
This is so cinematically put together, and I love how you structured this through the lens of the stages of grief. The mixture of stills and video and narrative and music all really worked well. Intriguing premise and conclusions too.
I have a minimalist wardrobe (37 pieces for all 4 seasons). I thrift the majority of my clothing....I do not enjoy shopping 😁 not do I want to support fast fashion. I prefer to thrift vintage pieces and I only replace an item (shop) if I need to. I also practice 1 in/1 out for everything I purchase.
I truly think this is one of the best videos in the whole internet, plus: it is so aesthetic.
My entire wardrobe during the work week are four black shirts and four black pants. I'm 56 years old and have been doing this for years. On the weekend I own two pairs of shorts, two dressier shirts if I'm going out and and two solid tee shirts and that is my weekend uniform. I know some people at work wonder if I ever change my outfit and a few comments have been made, but I'm doing me and I'm fine with my black uniform.
You are amazing. You inspired me to downsize my whole, very - I repeat - very large wardrobe, and I am only 21. I downsized my clothes, shoes, accessories and so on and so forth. I still own to many things, but I hope at the end of this year I will have only clothes I really enjoy to wear. It is a long process, but I enjoy every minute of it. I also, last year, banned all make up and cosmetic brands that still test on animals. Now I am using only vegan, natural and cruelty free products. And it's sad, that people around the world, they just don't care. Especially in Germany, where I am from, people just want to impress one another, by wearing Michael Kors bags, wearing Chanel lipstick or whatever else. I was almost trapped in this evil cycle of egoism and indifference. But I am happy to see that people like you, they exist. Thank you for your work and your great message to the world!
I am buying more clothes from second hand shops. I saw a rack there on the weekend named 'last chance clothing' and I guess this is the stage before landfill. I have repaired a pair of jeans. I am trying to live with less and teaching my husband this is a challenge I will persist with.
I would have loved to see the dress styled 30 different ways
That's what i expected to see
Really I thought it was perfect. She didn't have to do too much thinking in the morning just get up and go.
I am down to seven shirts ...one pair of jeans..one dress... Five shoes.... 30 pairs of white underware ( one wash of whites once a month) love this so much!!!!!!!
🙌🙌🙌
Lol ive been wearing the same black jeans, black cardigan, and black leather pointed toed flats to work for the past two weeks. All i do is rotate the camisole. Its either white or grey. I couldnt care less. People at work notice but i just dont care.
dominique007 sounds chic
💜🙌🙌
Amen, they would hate if u came with different glam outfits every day. Demons hate free ppl who have unplugged from this matrix. On my way!!!

So Basically a Uniform Works Wonders🤓🤓🤓
this is one of the best videos I've ever seen. I could watch it again and again... thanks for that one!
Thank you so much
“Maybe if I haven’t sat down so much...” lol
I have watched this video like 5 times already. I just come back to it to be encouraged and inspired.
This is an *amazing* video, seeing fast fashion clothes fall apart before my eyes after just a few wears has been a huge push for me too to steer clear.
What an interesting little film - as pure and simple as the dress. Music was perfect. I knew a girl in college who, as a matter of principle, owned only one pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and one of those woven Mexican pullovers. She was a fascinating person, and willing to travel her own road. I did not know her well, but she has lingered in my memory for 43 years. Nice job on this video!
If the memories about her have stayed with you for so long, she might have been truly luminous! And at the end of the day, thaťs what counts...
@@silvasilvasilva Yes indeed.
This was incredible, Maria! Not how I imagined you'd make this video (I've been looking forward to it!) but it's so so much better. :)
You seem to have put this video together so effortlessly, yet its so inspirational. I feel like I can really see your signature style.
Loved this!! And you did such a good job filming and editing. Thanks for sharing your experience and fast fashion realization!
I love seeing people in their perfect uniforms! I never feel like I have nothing to wear but I hate taking care of it all.
Reminds me of the story of the poor girl who had only one black dress but had multiple collars, cuffs and buttons to make it look different every day. This was told to me by a woman who knew this girl in 1917. Ever wonder why closets from the era were so small...people didn't have clothes like they do today.
Interesting...! Funny how it’s trendy now....
In my second semester at university, I was really stuck up as to what to wear. Since at school we had uniforms, dressing up daily for university became a struggle. That’s when I started wearing my favorite black and white top almost daily but switching between my black cardigan, white cardigan and a black shrug. I initially thought everyone knew i was repeating my outfit all the time. But later I realized no one actually cared to notice or point it out. I love the top and I still wear it quite often!
I love this! You've made me want to try this challenge.
Even I love wearing black. I only change the accessories to add a bit of color
amazing video. at first, I was thinking "ok, a bit depressing", but then it all made sense! amazing
I LOVE THIS! I thought I'd packed my capsule wardrobe for a trip. After watching this I will rethink my packing. Thank you! New subscriber! 👍🏾
My goodness your videos just get better and better, I really enjoyed this!
This is the most powerful video I probably have ever seen on CZcams after such a looong time! I really loved it. Keep going, love x
This video, on this day, is really messing with me. I'm in all black mourning my mom. And there's this video with the 5 stages of grief in my recommended
Quinita Whitfield So sorry for your loss!
Quinita Whitfield oh, my condolences.
It was meant to find you, I hope you are doing better 💕
Aww thank you all. Im taking it day by day.
We need more creative videos like this to spread more consciousness on what we wear! Thank you!
Wow! Nicely done. I like the way you incorporated the stages of grief instead of focusing on how you styled the dress everyday. Bravo! I would love to hear more.
i love your videos. so poetic, so unique. this one has been my fave... keep it up!
Terrific addition to the conversation about fashion, minimalism, and ethical purchasing. I loved the slower pace of the editing, your thoughtful analysis, and your reflections on the decision you made. Thank you so much.
I love everything about this
All of your hard work definitely shows! Amazing job!
Great video! Beautifully shot and thought provoking. Thank you for sharing your reflections on this project.
Maria! This is excellent, thank you so so much. I've been doing a lot of research into fast fashion / sustainable fashion too. I think that sustainable fashion is closely linked with capsule wardrobes and minimalism so each one feels like a natural extension of the other. I'm committed to buying clothing only as needed and from sustainable and ethical fashion brands. Love that we're on this journey together :)
Oh I love this! I've been so excited to see the outcome of this process. You did an incredible job!
I would really enjoy a video on some of the ethical companies, reviews and prices. Also, what do you think of people sewing their own garments?
Love to see people making their own clothing...
Yay! The video we've been waiting for. Great job, Maria!
I love how you are being aware of the whole fast fashion situation! Great video!!!!
This is one of the most creative videos I've ever seen on CZcams. Amazing job Maria!
Such an amazing and inspiring video! Thrifting is also a great option for more sustainable and ethical clothing since most of the ethical clothing companies I've come across tend to be on the pricier side.
Really excited to see videos about your journey into ethical fashion, I'm slowly trying to move my wardrobe in that direction as well 🙂
this was amazing 😊 thanks for spreading awareness
I LOVE how you filmed this and how you incorporated the 5 stages of grief. This was SO well done. More people need to see this!
ah you are amazing, inspirational. I resonate with your comment on the description to this video especially in regards to fashion and I have an excess of clothes i never wear or are too old and at rag status
I really loved this video. I'm becoming more and more interested in where my clothing comes from and this really sparked me to keep digging. Thank you for sharing your experience.
This is an amazing video! Thanks for sharing your experience!
great video thank you for shedding some light on this subject. it is appreciated
This is me! Completely! I love a basic . I then take the basic and wear it the same or different. It is clean.. it is simple!! It reduces my stress so much! It makes ME feel like ME! I get used to it. It relaxes me! I accessorize according to weather, moods, and activity!. Do this with white basic. Do it with black basic! Red.. or Blue.. Purple!! Financially it rocks!!!!!$$$$$
Brilliant. Your best work till now. You are a talented storyteller.
I think it is easier for classic looks and no prints like flowers or crazy pattern (which help me feel more positive and less grey that is, the flowers and patterns I wear). But when one takes care of fast fashion as if it came from an expensive store it keeps for alot longer and less footprint on our Earth. I don't have the money to pay for the fashionable clothes but I do buy second hand and take care of what I have as I won't be able to replace it again. For my growing children I buy for what they will wear a minimum of 2 years or if possible 4. When they stop growing, they've looked for quality and second-hand (which they see as recycling and taking care of the Earth mentally).
This is EXACTLY why I made the choice last year to STOP wearing fast fashion. I no longer invest in cheaply constructed clothing. I have always shopped vintage/thrifted/secondhand pieces, but now this has 110% become my life. I’ve played with having a capsule wardrobe for the past couple months, and am in the process of building a good now! This was such a good video! #subscribed
This is one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen on CZcams!! Soooo good!!!!
Oh, it's such a relief to find someone who feels the same way.
This is like a True Life documentary. Sent me back in time. I’m here for it
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on youtube. Well done. :)
Thank you for this so well put together documentary. Subscribing !
I love this video! This a simple project, but the way you showcase it was great :)
THIS IS SO FANTASTIC!!! When you went off on the realities of unethical clothing manufacture at 3:08 I very much for real started clapping at my kitchen table. We are sooooo culpable, but we can't do better until we know better and that's why videos like this are so important: to provide gentle introductions to the hard facts so people can start learning. Thank you for this!
This was an awesome project actually
You inspire me a lot!
Powerful message something we should all think about. Stay blessed...X
Worth the wait! Thank you for sharing the project video, as you do more research about ethical fashion can you do videos where you share some of these ethical brands?
this is really well made and much more interesting than a video that couldve been just sitting in front of a camera, i really love this
This was very well made. I would like to know what brands you know of that support ethical practices that you buy from now
Wow what a great video! I love how you made this video, never seen something like this before! & you better be sure I'm checking your blog 😘
I got a compliment on a pair of jeans. She said “Are those new?” I said, “I only have two pairs of jeans and I’ve worn these every other day for a year and a half.” That’s when I realized people don’t pay attention as much as you think.
Loved loved this video. There should be more videos like this out there!
what a beautiful and inspiring video! thanks for that! i have to watch again now.....
This is just a piece of art!
Living in the hot, humid South, I want comfort. I wore the same tent style dress, navy with flowers for three months and a tea shirt style gown at home. I wore the dress, came home and washed and hung it to dry. It was wonderful on my part. We really need less.
love it! congratulations for your proyect.
Great job on this video. I love how you put it together and I love your thoughts after wearing the dress for 30 days. I really was not expecting that you would go back to wearing it for another 3 weeks. I have to ask. How did the dress hold up after all of that wear at the end?
Beautiful and evocative. I love how this is filmed and edited and am planning to research more ethical clothing companies! Thanks
This is amazing, Maria!
I love the video! The time and effort you spent on it paid off. :)
I wear my linen dress that I bought second hand almost all the time it must be from the 30s or 40s and I am just in love good quality and all
I loved this video, it reminded me of a book I read on fast fashion titled "Overdressed the High Cost of Cheap Fashion " excellent read. I believe the last two chapters are devoted to seamstresses and tailors. Goes hand in hand with your lovely experiment. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Great!-I wear my dress every day)) and I have very few other things
this is more than just "wearing one clothing item", thanks!, new sub from cebu 🇵🇭 Philippines 💚
This is beautiful.
I loved this video; it had a somewhat melancholic vibe to it which I liked because it was suited to the subject at hand :)
Amazing video! Love!
Excellent video!! I loved it and I share your thoughts on the fashion industry completely. Not so long ago people bought just a few items of clothing and that's what they wore for years. And those items lasted cause they were made to last, nowadays everything is made to last less so you go on and buy something else. Not only that, but with constant sales and trends we feel we have to follow clothing becomes an object without value, we never have enough. The fashion industry has become the second most pollutant and it's so important we start making a difference before it's too late. Not only with clothing but with everything we consume. Great video, great project and great message.
Wow what a cool video and project!!!
Neat experiment. I might want to try this.
I love you and your channel! awesome trial.
this video was beautiful! i don't know if I would be able to do the same dress day in and day out...but that might be the mother-of-three-small-sticky-children in me talking. I'm currently doing a wardrobe limiting project, but I've given myself seven outfits, one for each day of the week, for the entire year. fast fashion is such a wasteful, hurtful industry that we have to start somewhere, right? I'm allowing myself four new (or new to me) items this year, one per quarter, and they must be procured from ethical sources. always fun to find like-minded people along the way :)
Life is to enjoy and is very very short so be happy in the moment and if you love dressing up and it makes you feel good do it.
This is really inspiring!
My dad just gives me whatever clothes he has bought and never worn...
Maria - I really loved this video. I was looking forward to it already but I was surprised, pleasantly, about the conclusions you came to. I'm very interested in learning more about ethical fashion now. I've heard of it before but your experience and the passion in this video has piqued my interest. Could you go into how you research brands and products? Either a video or a blog post would be fantastic.
Such an insightful video! I my just have to challenge myself with something similar to this ❤️
I really enjoyed that. Thank You.
This video is amazing!!
