Well that dog is so calm. My dog always moves his feet.
same
Mine bites
Mines play too much
Mine tries to bite my arm off
doggie downers used
For the dark nails I hold my phone light underneath the nails to see through, you can clearly see the vein then
Good tip!
Will start doing this.
jdogwar great tip
jdogwar
Thanks sooo much
You're a genius, I'm gonna try this.
To everyone who has a crazy dog: my german shepherd HATES getting his nails clipped. we just give him words of affirmation and every time we clip a nail successfully, we give him a treat for not freaking out. Over time this helped him be calm when its time. Hope this helps!
Used the same method. I did this for a month and now she's calm
DazzledByCee Ive clipped my puppies nails today for the first time, she has freaked out, but I gave her a treat every time she was calm.
I hope this works over time.
DazzledByCee I have a mallonis and about to try this where is my rosary and is my will up to date
The problem is most people reward the dog while trimming, to keep them "occupied" which in the end results in freakouts cause that's how the dog is going to get his treats lol
@@krazytrinisteve I trimmed my Maly's nails for the first time ....Until he eat the clippers 🤔
This video really needs to show people what to look for on the bottom of the nail for when you are close to the quick and when to stop, especially on black nails.
There is a small line under the nail that shows you where to stop cutting black nails. Cant believe a Vet office don't know this! I was taught this in Pet grooming. Lift up paw, look underneath and you will see the line on a black nail. Do NOT cut too close to that line
Ong thank you sooooo much I see it!!
Your Welcome my friend.:)
Thank yoou!!
+Marla Summers Great advice , I found this woman doesn't give sound advice. Hell in another vid she said you'd use a 40 blade on the pads.
OMG.....NO!
Also what I learned with dark nails is if you’re clipping and the nail still looks white on the inside when clipping that means it’s safe to clip more off. The closer you get to the vein, the less white you’ll see and more of a dark circle will show. Which is def a sign to stop.
kudos for having one of the better videos. can't wait till my pup is as relaxed as this dog is.
This video was definitely helpful!! I have cut clear nails before (much easier to decide when you're about to cut too far) but never black nails. It wasn't too difficult after this video and surprisingly my friend's dog stayed as still as the dog in the video! Thanks :)
How the hell are you suppose to do this if your dog is a complete little shit and even if you grab her paw she'll start fight for her life
I had the same problem with my puppy, and the trick that I've found for him is giving him treats before and after each nail. It calms him down, and I clip the nail really quick while he's still distracted chewing.
+90rubixcube I wrapped up my puppy in a towel and it really helps...
+90rubixcube it's because they don't like it it does not feel good to them just like some humans don't like the dentist.someone like you i would suggest you try a professional groomer instead of doing it yourself,i say this base on how you describe your dog in your comment
+Haitian Wonder Woman no, she's just expressing her frustration and exasperation. I don't know how the groomers keep them calm and steady, they have special ropes and equipment to keep them still, Im sure. this happens to me and my toy poodle puppy as well. she's preachin to the choir.
***** yea i figured it out from her response,i just recently started doing my yorkie by myself it's getting better,i just distract him with treats while i clip away, but very little every 2 weeks.
Great demo of trimming nails with clippers. You gave me the confidence to do this with my two dogs that have dark nails. Thanks!
Thank You, I can now go ahead and trim my little guy's nails with more confidence. I appreciate it !!
Thanks for this tutorial, it's my first time cutting my dogs nails
Thank you very much for this video,as my girls nails were getting long I was not sure how to go about it.
She is very calm all the time and when cutting her nails she just lay down and let me cut them.
Plenty reassurance and cuddles throughout.
Nice video but I'd suggest showing how you are making a decision about whether or not to continue trimming. That's a big piece that's missing in this video, probably the most important part. As you trim, you can see how the quick shows up at the end, which is the decision point whether or not you want to continue trimming.
wow lol been using those clippers wrong no wonder my dog fights for his life 😂
HAHAHAHAHAHa
poor dog
abuse!
lmao same here.
Nando C
..thanks your kindness in posting.Very helpful. Really.
so,the longer the nail gets the longer the vein grows,i did not know that glad i watched this.thank you
Thank you for showing us how! Liked!
Great vid.
Thanks for sharing!
Best video I’ve seen on trimming nails! It’s still intimidating to me but this was helpful! Thank you!
Ok now do it with a dog that's fighting back.
haha brah
Lol ikr. Our dog does too... 😭
put peanut butter on the wall.
Hahahah true story mine sounds like hes been murdered even before I touch his paw
You want to give them really good exercise before in order to lower their energy level. It should still be common sense.
Thanks for the vid!
Well done video. Thank you.
When you don’t have a dog but you find these videos satisfying 😭
thank you , great info
Great video, very helpful
You are awesome, thanks for getting me to face my fear of clipping. I did what you did and wallah quick and easy. Well not so easy I had my son gently hold my dog and that helped. I did hit the kwik once and used the kwik stop powder, good as new. Thanks again.
Nice video, thank you!
Amazing thank you!
Very good Thank You!
Thank you so much me and my dog Rufus appreciate your video so much big time help !!! 🐕😎
Just discovered this channel and it has been really helpfull for me, my baby is a 8 yrs old black lab with really black and thick nails, wish you continue uploading videos like this xoxo
Very good video!
thankx alot
Hey thanks for the quick easy video! I was ready to just make one big cut for my 16yr old dogs nails!
I just noticed the pair of clippers I am borrowing has a metal shield on one size that prevents you from cutting off more than just a little bit (1/8"?) at a time. I'm going to use that as a guide and slowly work my way up.
Also nice to know the dogs veins grow longer as they age- this will be our first cutting, she's always walked enough on pavement that she wore than down- now she's aging fast so we don't wear her nails down.
+Britt Childress 16yrs? wow, what kind of dog is she?
Mine's almost 14 soon, she a spaniel mix
Ty so much... I been needing to get my dog to a groomer. She needed her nails done cause there black. But I was told to try looking up a video. And I did them really well, Tyvm. ^^
My dog is small and has black and clear nails. He is a total spaz and bites and screams when we touch his nails, their way over grown and the quick is longer than it should be so this is gonna but fun 👍
Saige Beckwith I would go to the vet 😬
maybe try to get a little table and have them up there out of their element. one toe at a time! and the Drexel tool 24 bucks from Walmart with the sandpaper you can gently grind the nails after clipping the tips off. some dogs prefer the grinder since sometimes the clippers on thick/long quick nails can still pinch the nail enough to make it uncomfortable
Take him to a vet, they'll inject him something and he'll faint, after that they'll cut his nails
Saige Bergstrom my babies the same way all she has to do is see the clippers and it a nerve freak out for her and me both
It is hard on an animal's system to knock them out for that. A vet or groomer (make sure the grromer is OK and has dealt with dogs that can be aggressive - not all will or can) can show you how to desensitize the dog to having his feet/nails touched so next time it will go better. It will take time & you'll have to be firm about it but it can be done if done right.
Beautiful Video. Helps me feel good about going into the animal world possibly becoming a Vet myself one day.
Great video. That is one loud ass camera though omg 😂
Haha Tru
always a complainer in the crowd......
If only my dog was this relaxed
Thank you for video!!!.. Hope I can do it safely ..beautiful doggy so calm🐶🐶🐾🐾📖📖🎶🎶
I had the balls to do this for a pit bull today. Everybody said it could not be done. One claw down, 9 to go. Hey, at least I got one of them!
Awesome thank u so so much u rlly help me out
Thanks! Gonna clip my SPITZ/CHOW dog now.
Not only clipping small amounts keep from hitting the vain so much-- it also helps to prevent SPLITTING!
I bought some clippers today and I'm so scared of hurting my baby 😭 but I'll give it a try thanks for helpful video!
I've used cornstarch and it worked great. My mom was a groomer so I'm familiar with styptic powder.
What did you do with the cornstarch?
Plot twist - the dog is a paid actor
My first black lab I got back in 2001. His nails got long so I decided to cut them. I didnt realize dogs even had a quick. I thought their nails were same as ours. So the very first cut I did I took it down 3/4 of the way and got him good. Poor baby. I felt so bad. He was weary of getting his nails cut for the rest of his life. I was the only one able to do it and would have to baby him the whole way. usually took a half hour to get the job done. I got a new baby now and Im a pro at his nails. I actually just did them while watching this video. Black nails are definitely harder but once you get the hang of it they are simple. To me the most important part of a good trim is filing afterwards.
Im watching these videos in conjunction with my dog grooming course and i must say you are such a good teacher, very thorough!
すごいです!!
On my Yorkies black nails, I also use my phone light, to see the quick!
thank you! time to trim 3 Golden Retrievers!
Best thing of all is to start when they’re puppies. I got my dog at a month old and been clipping them since. Obviously not much to clip at that age but just round them out or get them used to the clippers being close, I mostly just stuck to a file when he was a baby. He’s 5 now and I can clip his nails while he sits in my lap. Never hit the quick because as soon as you do that when they’re tiny, they associate the clippers with pain or danger.
I thought it was a great video I'm going to try cut my 2 dogs nails thanks for your help g
Somebody needs to invent a silent clipper! My baby gets frightened with the click
Wiesbadengera M If you can engineer it, I'll be willing to finace.
The clipper are silent it’s the nails that make the sound when clipped
I’m bought clippers to trim my Yorkies nails, but this vid just gave me anxiety. I can’t do it😫😫😫
Is this real? Lmao. It's the nails, not the clippers. 😂😂😂
Its moreso the sound of the nail, thats going to make a noise no matter what, maybe try an electric file. Turn it on around your pup so she can get used to the noise *before* you even try to give her nails a trim, that way it won't be scary. I have 2 pitbulls and they're both big babies, I had this issue with both of my girls and introducing the file that way has made them comfortable and they even put their paws on my knees without me asking whenever they see the file. Hope this helps!
that was really stressful to watch i don't think i can do it
I feel the same way, I got anxious just watching it and most of my baby's nails are clear!
Same and I let my vet cut my dog's nails twice and he bled my dog both times!! Now I am scared to get his nails clipped anywhere, and I can only file his nails but that takes too long
The more you do it the easier it gets. You will become more confident and soon it just becomes second nature.
i just started trimming my Brittany Puppy (4 months) and my Lab (7 Years). The lab is hard. definitely good advice to take a small amount at a time. i hit the quick on one of his nails but it bled less than a pin drop and stopped. i found its best to give him a biscuit and roll him on his back and rub his tummy then start trimming the nails. the puppy, he just squirms so my wife has to hold him or give him a pigs ear or bully stick and do one at a time while he gnaws on that. Great video though!
If you DO HIT THE VEIN? No thank you! Next video of how NOT to hit the vein!!!
exactly I don't want to hurt my dog
She told you how not to hit the vein, she just also knows that a lot of you are probably still dumb enough to do it.
She's dumb
Quick Stop will stop the bleeding if you do cut to short. She tells you this at the end of the video
all these are very educational, I was scared to death the first time I trimmed my babies nails.
That dog is such an angel. My dog HATES it so much I got rejected at petsmart... they couldnt handle her and cut her nails.
I have a 70lbs English bulldog and it's a wrestling match every time I trim his nails. 😅
I’m here because I have two 1 year old dogs and today was the first time I clipped both of their nails and what I did was I just told them to behave and luckily they allowed me to hold their paws regardless of the fact that I always pinched their “web” part of their paws just because hahaha. I guess they still trust me though I trick and pinch them at times whenever it’s play time hahaha
for some reason i held my breath through this entire video
I got to do this for the first time and I don't know how is this going to work out it doesn't look good! Hahaha By the way this is an excellent video Thank you!
Does anyone have a good recommendation for strong clippers?
I bought 2 at Petco (not the scissor kind) and both broke after I clipped a few nails.
I heard the more often you cut it the shorter the quick becomes. How long does it take for the quick to shorten to it's normal length?
last video I checked was a vet channel and he said it goes only a little back Im so lost
@@nefelibata4190 If you regularly clip the dogs nail it will keep receading
My dog fights like heck after the first snip, she has clear nails and it is easy to miss, never have I cut too much but she has always given me a hard time
Something that worked for me was clicker training my dog to get his nails trimmed.
Great vid... also for small bleeds you can SOAP
Super helpful video! But holy crap that background noise from the camera! 😂
wow that dog was super chilled, mine would be squirming like no tomorrow
One of my Great Danes is impossible to get his nails done. Or his ears cleaned for that matter, ok really, just about anything & everything! How do you handle difficult dogs? Also, it doesn't seem to matter what brand of nail clippers i buy, they never seem to work that well. I don't know if just because they have such thick nails, or if the clippers just aren't that great. The locking mechanism always seems to slide ove and lock them when I'm right in the midst of cutting a nail. Is there anyway to get the quicks to recede once they've grown long? Thanks,
Wow I have always done it like, have the tool flat. Not just straight on. Haha this is why my dogs must hate me when I pull that thing out & scared ahahaha
I just want to know what kind of clippers those are and where I might be able to find some.
Buy them at pet stores, but buy quality ones as the cheap pair will go dull quickly. You can sharpen them with a rats tail file.
they're oster clippers work great really sharp too
What angle do you angle the clippers???????
How are these dogs so calm?
Is this a DDR Shepherd or Belgium melinois??
Bruh I have two 1 year old Siberian huskies and let me just say that trimming their nails for the first time today was such an exhausting task. My girl did fairly well considering she’s the outspoken one. I’d give her 3 out of 5 paws for Hina because of her cooperation. She squirmed a little bit but she was fairly easy. Took about 10 minutes. My boy however was a total drama queen and was nibbling my hand every time I got close. I tried to reassure him with snacks but he wasn’t having it. It’s late so I decided I’d try again another day. I was only able to cut 1 nail in about half an hour of trying. 1 out of 5 paws for Kukahi.
Anyone have any tips for clipping a mastiff's nails? Whenever I try to do it she struggles and fights like a fish on land.
what was the other dog breed that was mixed with german shepherd ??
Where can we get a pair of the kind of clippers, that the vet used to clip the dog's nails?
Since the video doesn't mention the brand clipper being used...allow me "Millers Forge" #767 big dog nail nail clipper...hi quality made in Italy...don't buy that crap made in china ...the chinese clippers are not only garbage they are more expensive than the Millers Forge #767
$3 for a pair of chinese ones work fine. I just can't black nails lol. My dog has one white claw lol. My vet said to use that claw as a guide for the others, doesn't work though haha. The torch thing doesn't work either.
John Colwell
What kind of dog nail clippers do you use?
Were you recording this while sitting in a rocking chair...?
Helena Ferguson thanks
Lol
Sounds like a camera from the 90s.
Can you add a link to where you bought those clippers ?
CrazyHorse FPV UK I don't have a link, but I'm 99.999% those are Miller's Forge clippers. That should help you find them.
I own a pair and my vet also sells them.
What nail trimmer are you using? I have bought several and they fall apart after several uses.
Thank you for your video and time.
A girl love boy and Girls no what they do
Ana Moreno Dog
Try doing that on on Rottweiler lol. Rottweiler's do not normally like their feet being touched (mine allows me but no one else). I'm worried he'll bite me when I apply the pressure or he'll pull his paw away and hurt himself as I'm cutting through.
Do you have a video with a dremel?
My dog (pictured here) pees himself every time i go near him to do his nails, i have to take him into the garden on the lawn other wise my flooring gets soaked, same with the bath soon as i put him in it he pees in the water so now i pay a mobile dog groomer to do it, i thought maybe my dog just didnt like me doing it but he pees in the dog groomers van too so at least i know it isnt personal.
Yeah it’s hard to clip my dogs she’s a basset mixed with something but her nail are really really thick. She used to be good with it but ever since my dad flipped to short one time she just runs outside if me try to cut them.
I put Plastic wrap around my head and put a slab of peanut butter on the plastic. Let the Dog sit on the couch in front of you. You Crouch infront of the dog, it kicks the peanut butter, you clip nails... done deal. This isn't my idea, was on a CZcams Video I saw but it works amazing 🤟
Wish the dogs that I groom would sit like that! I seem to get all the bad ones :(
Omg 🥺
You can use turmeric powder or coffee powder to apply to bleeding nails instead of flour.
Can you do this video again with a small dog with dark nails and pulls their paws away?
So my dog pulls away and I’m afraid that it hurts her when I clip them. She has clear nails so I can see the quick and I never cut close to it. Any advice for how to help her not pull away? It doesn’t hurt them unless you get the quick right?
does it have to go to school to be a pet groomer? or just to have an experience?
Are all of the quicks of the same paw of equal length?
Linh L No. Some nails will grow faster than others, and have longer quicks. Always hold a light up to the nail before cutting and clean it out first to see where the vein is at.
Linh L no
my dog has some white nails and some black, with the white nails i used a flash light and you can see right through it but the black nails are impossible, atm i stopped, im just gonna get a pro to take care of it cos i dont want to hit a nerve
+Fadil Jackson Abanur and it a good idea to get very sharp ones, the one i bought felt like it was gonna snap the nail rather than cut it so i stopped, and you want to cut quick, cutting slow felt like its putting a lot of strain on the whole nail
