Jian Wang is under rated artist. He is the one of the best cello players in his generation in my opinion. He plays is with soul, color and emotion and absolutely beautiful.

underrated YES, but still represented by Askonas Holt like Yoyo Ma... so can't be too unknown? Agreed he has soul and emotion!! BUT I can't believe the poor quality of the camera angles and lack of direction, and this is a French production!

Some fine chamber music going on here and clearly all the players are enjoying themselves......flutes are allowed to flutter about like butterflies.....great performance

I admire this guy. He is an artist free of typical cliche playing. He is his own voice, very earnest, true to himself, somebody with the artistic integrity of a Rostropovich. It sounds like a musician who grew up in the rustic countryside.

Jian Wang was a child prodigy discovered by Issac Stern during his tour of China in 1979. From that trip Stern made the documentary From Mao to Mozart. Wang toured the U.S. with the Shanghai Conservatory at age 12. Now he performs world-wide. Videos of him playing are available here on CZcams.

I believe that he is playing on a Stradiivirus on loan from a wealthy Chinese. Incredible sound produced by a great cellist. He also does an excellent rendidtion of the Elgar Cello Concerto. Discovered by Issac Stern in China and studied cello at the Juilliard School and Yale University.

LittleHarryBrother1 I think I typed the wrong Chinese name should be 二泉映月 (The Reflection of the moon, this is what google can translated and it probably OK to use).
The name can be roughly translated into "The moonlight reflected in spring fountain".
Here.is the details, the first 2 characters in Chinese means a natural spring named "The second best spring in the world", it is a bit tricky name as it was NOT named as "The first" or "The best". The third word means "reflect". The last character is moon.
So you can see the translation gives a quite different meaning. But the main theme is probably OK if you just use The reflection of the moon.
There is a long and sad story about this piece (from how it was recorded and named etc, as it was played by a poor street musician and he died after recording was done shortly in 1950s). I am not sure why there is no wiki page in English for this work, although there is a Chinese and Japanese page. Try French
      fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erquan_Yingyue
      It explains something anyway.

So there is a recording with the street musician, how cool! Do you know if it is available somewhere?
