SCP-3182 is a dilapidated grocery store in the town of Denton, Missouri, which is host to a range of anomalous phenomena from 19:52 to 20:52 each day (hereafter referred to as a Deimos Event).
During a Deimos Event, no outside sources of visible light are able to penetrate SCP 3182. Additionally, individuals will find themselves unable to enter or exit the building, claiming when questioned that no entrances or exits exist. Video recordings of their time around SCP3182 show that this is not the case, suggesting SCP-3182 instead has an effect on the perceptions of those that come into contact with it.
Individuals present inside SCP-3182 during a Deimos Event are known to be anomalously affected in a number of ways, including:
Sudden and irregular bouts of extreme distress or melancholy.
Development of severe resentment towards the town of Denton, Missouri.
Recollection of memories determined to belong to former regular customers at SCP-3182.
Paranoia regarding a vague approaching danger, and a need to do something about it.
A strong desire to leave SCP-3182, even though this is not possible.

It's interesting that this store is not haunted by literal ghosts, but is instead haunted by the ghost of young people's ambition. You see it a lot in retail/food service. People start out hopeful that they will only need the job for a couple years, but then that spark dies and they're still there a decade later. An SCP that is a really good representation of exactly that

@@Lippdinos Kinda sounds like something from a classic 1940s noir film like “Casa Blanca,” except instead of Humphrey Bogart, the main lead is played by an already world weary Ferris Bueller type character commenting on the “human experience” he witnesses through the checkout window infront of him. Maybe only using artsy angles to give the impression that we’re only able to see the world like this as well, with even the view outside blocked by convenient products , and only an all to bright flash as the door opens and closes throughout the film

Also, the fate of that one female ghost is tragic. Trapped but still trying to help those who are alive but there at the wrong time. I always love it when ghosts aren't evil beings but trying to help.

Sure we know D-693221 _(female D-class)_ survived her encounter but, it isn't clear about what happens to D-44209 _(male D-class)_ after he finished his interview with the entity.
D-693221 likely continued her life after her sentence, like said in the vid.
Though D-44209 likely was terminated afterwards, since unlike D-693221 who wasn't really affected (which was lucky enough to survive and returned to normality)... so it's just procedure to terminated unsuable D-class in the SCP foundation.
I'm guessing the writer(s) of SCP-3182 had some misgivings about working in a Denton grocery store. At least from the vibes I'm getting from watching/reading it...

@@ellis7622 Oh definitely. That's what makes it so relatable and even scarier than the supernatural aspect: these feelings are something people are dealing with worldwide.
I like how this one reminds me of another store based SCP that makes all its fatally dangerous Business practices absolutely legal even adding new ones to prevent itself from being obstructed or explored like where the manager was even though they were a dried up corpse.

Working at a grocery store is a nightmare on its own. If anything, something supernatural would only make the monotony of the job a bit more and interesting and bearable.
Feeling stuck in a dead-end retail job in the small podunk town you were born in...this has to be one of the scariest scps created, because that kind of dread and anxiety is too real when you can relate.

The most unbelievable part of this story was that a D class was returned to prison with a reduced sentence after completing a test
They are not monsters and if they did not do that the personal that are free people would question the morality of what they are doing. Doing pointless evil is for saturday cartoon villains.

@@Raximus3000usually the S.C.P. Foundation administers amnestics to the the D-Classes that survive the time they agreed to in their contracts so that they can be used for longer. The S.C.P. Foundation may work for the safety of humanity, but it lacks morals.

Expecting trust when you shown to be untrustworthy especialy to people you have made life risking deals is a sure way to destroy morale and make people question the foundation.
This cliche does not work here because of the nature of the SCPs. You cannot have strong willed and loyal people working on an organisation if they know they are being petty like that.

This one is...well a different kind of tragic. Given that it is the state of Missouri, which is just an exaggerated way to say "Misery".
This SCP is likely the personal or collective "demons" the staff were dealing with. The energy strong enough to give them a form that can physically harm people. Or in this case, scare them and delude them. While I wouldn't consider a rundown store like this as "evil", it is something that the employees considered to be "suffocating" or "Inescapable". Sure, they worked the dead end job as much as possible, yet happiness is just as important to keep the malaise at bay.
It is ,more or less, a place that embodies the feelings of those broken by the cyclical nature of the business and disappointment that came with it; culminating in the haunting we see here.
Nevermind the fact that the store could almost qualify as a liminal space since it is closed. The small, cramped, nature of the building is enough to make anyone feel stuck or trapped.
Important Note: The Deimos Event is named after a Greek Mythological figure of the same name. Said figure was the embodiment of pain; particularly during times of warfare. Deimos is also the brother of Phobos, who (usually) represents Fear of Warfare. Yet, both brothers could represent pain and fear anywhere they go.
In this case, this could be Deimos' presence given a physical, tangible form....and the staff, be they current or former, just happen to be broken enough to give it a place to call home; if only for an hour. In a way, the "ghosts" we see here could be facsimiles of their living counterparts; those who were smart enough to leave. All the while, they were throwing off the weight of what can described as a melancholic atmosphere.
The ones Deimos remembers and replicates; a dark representation of the banality of this store and the sense of condemnation that isn't too far behind.
Great breakdown and theorizing, thank you. Just wanted to correct one point: Deimos personified Dread and Terror, the former of which I think really fits this SCP well...

Some say a haunting happens when traumatic events build up leaving a “mark” behind. Not necessarily someone dying, but more of an emotional mark. In this case the writer really wanted to convey that feeling of being trapped in a dead end job in a dead end town. Not necessarily the thoughts of one person but of hundreds. Emotional stains left from years of stagnation and regret. The ghost might have been the first victim. Someone who had a panic attack driven by this anomaly that caused her to perish in fear. The fear of being trapped forever
As someone who has recently moved to a small town I personally find it relaxing compared to a larger city. Unfortunately for the youth there isn’t too many places to work, so this sort of feeling could be relatable. Scary thing is there is a grocery store that almost fits this description. So my mind went there well the story was being told. Definitely a good entry when it makes you connect to real life places 😨
Sometimes, places take on an impression - echoes of people, emotions, events.
One such impression was the attic with hate inside of it.
Another - a supermarket, filled with the collective thoughts of thousands passed through it and coalesced into one, melted-together, vague consciousness - with the fear of being trapped and consumed by this godforsaken town.
A third, perhaps - is a thing a quiet madness made.
I wonder what would happen if someone that was really happy and positive with their career was exposed to this SCP.
I love SCPs like this. Stories and backgrounds just rife with speculation. Just wondering how it all began is just as enjoyable as not knowing in the first place. Dr Bob takes advantage of this phenomenon to great and entertaining effect.

Holy crap, this is just one of those SCPs that you know was based on something tangible. Like some SCPs are like zombies or ghost or based on an urban legend or mythology. This is one of those SCPs that makes you say "This person based this on a concept that we'd all find relatable" and that is the grinding, despair and hopelessness people stuck in retail feel and was turned into a living nightmare. Like a City of Blood was clearly based on the crimes of the Catholic church against young boys and the True Crime Anomaly is like how people seem to get weirdly obsessed with true crime especially the most bloody and horrifying cold cases.
You guys are actually amazing to watch
They should make like an actual series around the foundation with some Love Death and Robots style

I think the entity in 3182 might be a poltergeist. Poltergeist were said to form in areas where either strong psychic negative emotion or a certain number of negative emotions accumilate in a certain area like say a grocery store in a small town

Denton, Missouri isn't really a town, but a small cluster of houses outside of Steele. I think the author was thinking of Denton, Texas, which is near Fort Worth. I know SCP writers aren't professionals, but damn man, I didn't know anything either Denton either. It took me all of 3 minutes to on Google Maps to fix that. There's no excuse for this level of laziness. If you don't know, do a search!

i kinda have that, too... either get out of here, or get to the life i always wanted to live... guess enough might've seeped through over the years they might've gotten an idea... first my car went to repairs before i went on the road to find another place to live, took four months, forcing me to take more permanent living arrangements because of money, then there was money, then there were different things, most recently a doctor just decided to end a treatment that was to conclude in a month immediately, forcing a complete return to zero of the condition, ... this is an awful place to be avoided at all costs...
