    I seem to recall a story about a female Dark Eldar or Eldar Corsair who caused so much suffering to others that Slaanesh actually went and granted her it’s favor and protection. Like they didn’t just loosen their hold like it does with normal Dark Eldar it straight up was giving her powers and stuff.

      Slaanesh is like that sometimes. She can be just as spiteful as any chaos god, but she does tend to reward those that impress her. I still remember that one planetary govener who realised she was getting old and summoned a Keeper of Secrets into herself and rather than be possessed, ate it. She then did like like three more times before Slaanesh noticed and just made her a daemon prince. IIRC, the govener was so egotistical that she thinks Slaanesh did that to get in *her* favour, which just impressed Slaanesh more.

      I find something funny..
      Humanity..
      Eldari
      Nekrons..
      One thing that they all share...
      Different origins but fundamentally function similarly...
      By this I mean simply...
      The difference between life living in the non habitable zone of our Star... The nekrons.
      Goldilocks zone... Humanity..
      The non habitable zone outside of the goldilocks zone. The eldari
      What this means... Is of course the nekrons don't have biological bodies the adapted to a point where they could transfer at will... Probably resulting in the original nekron tiers Catan... Then they not knowing they were originally nekrons finding themselves at a whole new elevated level of understanding and being of course would end up unintentionally causing problems for the nekron tier resulting in the nekron tier reintegrating the Catan back into a physical body resulting in pharons like the storm lord and silent king...
      While the eldari would end up growing fundamentally hard against the natural cosmos as it would be far easier for heavier metal's gas's and minerals to form resulting in a Oasis of colors shapes scents that fill the eldari's understanding of the universe..
      While humanity was left in the pit fall... No real natural way to go either...
      Where the eldari and nekrons found themselves where they are now...
      Humanity is still attempting to figure out where we fit... And if I'm not mistaken... The fear is... Weather or not we will figure out a place we fit... Or continue to attempt to figure out where we fit.... The second piece detailed is the fear.. the first piece is that we hope we find our place in all of this... Though we know we have a place for we are here... We know not what it is our place is...

    From the 2e Eldar codex:
    "Of all the servants of Chaos there are few as truly damned as the Eldar Chaos Champions, nor any as utterly at the mercy of their Chaos masters. They are lost to the Eldar race, unacknowledged and forgotten by their kinfolk, their souls eternally barred from peace."
    There's another 2e quote about how the Chaos Eldar are some of the most feared champions of Chaos, but I can't find that one right now.
    If they do a Militarum Traitoris codex for 10th, like they're rumored to do, it'd be cool to have like Chaos Eldar priests in among the human traitors inducting them into worship of the Dark Gods, not whole armies of them but interesting characters and models that fit into the broader Chaos faction.
    Personally I don't think Mandrakes are actually Chaos-aligned but ymmv.

    Chaos Eldar is a cool concept as long as they maintain two things-
    1. The Craftworlders, and by extension anyone with even some ties to the path system, should never be shown to get corrupted. Because if they do that it pretty much invalidates the entire system that their society is based on, which would be stupid.
    2. Those who are corrupted/give themselves over, should never do so to Slaanesh. Slaanesh doesn't wanna corrupt Eldar souls, they eat them.
    I can absolutely see an Eldar who, in their attempt to fight against slaanesh, beseech Khorne for more power. Khornate Eldar sound rad af, and not exactly implausible.
    Edit- Also I just realized that Una Belphoebe is the ranger from Path of the Forsaken. I wasn't aware she showed up in a different story, this is cool.

      A craftworlder should still be able to become disillusioned/turn from the path and so become corrupted. Just like a loyalist marine or guardsman could. They wouldnt be a craftworlder after that obviously, but theres zero reason why that would be impossible. Any being with emotions is susceptible to falling or being tricked in to falling to chaos, thats its whole thing.

    • @EngineerOfVaul
      @EngineerOfVaul Před 8 měsíci +3

      @@seaofenergy2765 and the path system's whole thing is making sure the Eldar are not swayed by the ruinous powers, particularly slaanesh. It makes use of how the eldar psyche works, creates an entire different mental compartment that provides them with safety while they make use of their skills. Its not just simple indoctrination like with spacemarines or guards.
      Which is why I specified "Those still with ties to the path system". Eldar can be corrupted, but that is when they walk away from the strict path systems and go down the path of the outcast. Rangers are edging the line, corsairs are even more likely to fall. Either of them falling is quite sensible. But while the craftworlders are on the path, it should be nigh impossible.

      @seaofenergy2765 Před 8 měsíci +1

      The path system is not flawless. Exarchs are "lost" to Khaine and will not leave the Path of the Warrior. Even Phoenix Lord Arhra of the Striking Scorpions burned with the dark light of Chaos, although not full Chaos worship. The Galaxy is a large place, and 10,000 years is a long time. An ancient Eldar who had walked many Paths and Aspects may one day come to see futility in the "salvation" of a soulstone and Infinity Circuit after seeing enough Craftworlds and Exodite worlds get destroyed. Seeking "salvation" after death, he begins to consider the contenders to Slaanesh's power: Gork, Mork, the Emperor, Khorne, Nurgle and Tzeentch

There are also good reasons for why the Gods would have affinity with Eldar sects.
    Nurgle: Nurgle is the only reason why Isha is still alive after the birth of Slaanesh and it is well established that in his own way he is in love with her. While it is something of a community meme that Nurgle and Isha are a happy couple, rather than captive and captor, a group who venerate Nurgle as the husband and savior of Isha would be appropriate.
    Khorne: The difference between the doings of Khorne and Kaine are often mere semantics at the best of times, so devotees of the bloody-handed god who took things way too far and found a patron who doesn't seem to get his ass kicked every time he appears wouldn't be out of place.
    Tzeench: Magic and future sight are the arts of the Farseer and who better a patron to seek than the Changer of Ways himself. Eldar Farseers, with how they look to change and guide the future in subtle ways through seeking prophesy and prediction are a perfect fit for Tzeench without even changing anything. Unlike the Farseers who use their arts to try to protect their craftworlds, these guys would be much more into looking to claim dominion once more. Make the Eldar Great again. Plus, given how scary human psykers boosted by Tzeench are, an Eldar Warlock high on magic would be a force to behold.
    I don't think these guys should be common, but they feel like they should punch way above their weight in the power plays of Eye Space. They'd be largely contained to the Crone Worlds, but even Chaos Space Marines would think twice and making sure they have every advantage they can get before they try making a move on their turf, because the leaders of these groups will have actually been there at the birth of a God and not just survived, but thrived.
    As for things they'd likely have, can you imagine Wraith constructs, but instead of being piloted by dead eldar, they've been possessed by enslaved neverborn?

    • @matthiuskoenig3378
      @matthiuskoenig3378 Před 8 měsíci

      Your wraith construct idea should just be the old eldar empire's psychic automata possed by neverborne.
      Hell that's probably a big enough force to be it's own army on table top.

    i love that note about ancient dark blessed artifacts are routinely unearthed and sold in whats basically a thrift market like it reminds you how old the eldar and how long 40 thousand years is that ancient badass artifacts you see heroes in some fantasy settings use are just commonly found and sold to low level cultists and pirates.

    I always considered any True Eldar who have become corrupted by Chaos are very rare and extremely powerful entities because of their psychic prowess. Any Eldar that somehow survived the fall must be chosen by one of the chaos gods. So yeah I don’t know what form they could appear on the tabletop but in my head canon they would be the equivalent of a daemon prince in power.

    Oh that Croneworld stuff is some real grey-line, post apocalyptic stuff I love to hear about. Wonder if the relationship between those warped survivors and the untouched Eldar is kind of like ghouls and humans in Fallout, although obviously rarer. Still, shows how even in a super intense setting like 40k pragmatic geopolitics still wins out. Gotta get those spirit stones after all...

  • @CommanderBohn

    They were around since early 40K. They were known to be insanely powerful psykers due to them going full overdrive unlike their non-Chaos kin who while still powerful, restrain themselves so that Slaanesh won't suck their souls. Then they were kinda retconned with the Crone World Eldar being the closest ones to the concept of Chaos Eldar. Then 8th ED came and actually mentioned them.
    But knowing current day GW they will foul them up like they did Squats.

  • @leothewhiteranger

    Chaos Eldar is something I have some fun with due to my own personal indecision paying off. My EC Warband, who I'm still figuring out a name for but the Glorious Choir is the running one, is a Warband who attacked and took an Exodite world, taking down a small reinforcing army of Craftworlders, but at great cost to them. To make up for it, they bound Daemons of Slaanesh to the suits of Howling Banshees, and forced them into Wraith constructs, making count as Possessed, Obliterators and Hellbrutes as a result, with the Exarch actually being essentially a Cackling Abomination - which I didn't know the term to until now - and sometimes provides leadership for a warband with relatively few marines. What's more, I considered having them corrupt the remaining Exodites into cultists, but instead decided it'd be far more Chaos for them to take the remaining bodies, turn it into a cauldron, and toss human cultists into there to "Remake" them... assuming I use the Wych Aelf models for that
    ... all of this is because I both considered a Craftworld and Daughters of Khaine army at different points - yes the Khaine Statue from a blood cauldron will likely also get conversion use - and wanted to do some use out of the spare kits.

    Chaos eldar actually used to be slightly bigger via eldar corsairs, when they used to be their own army, you could choose your warp lord (corsair prince) to be warp-touched and teetering on the edge toward chaos by taking on an aspect that was basically the step before falling to chaos, in its description it was even said that corsairs teeter on the path of damnation, that more and more young eldar are led astray, uninterested by how 'stifling and boring' they found the path system to be. Though rarer still, some drukhari seek redemption through the corsairs as a transitionary space between the Craftworlders and Drukhari. (though I doubt much of what I say is new to someone who's read the path of the eldar books, lol)
