  • In the spring of 2017 I spent a few weeks in Japan. During my time there I made it out to a few hikes. This hike, Mt Oyama, was one I went on while I was staying in Tokyo. It was a rather simple train ride out to Kanagawa and then bus connection to get to the trailhead.

    Did miss Jen.
Thanks for the hike. Really did like it. Much different than the Olympics or Gifford Pinchot, especially with all the shrines, signage, and building.
Thanks again, perhaps we will cross paths in the PNW, until then, love the virtual hikes ive been on with ya'll.

"Café do Brasil" or "coffee from Brazil" haha.
Wow, that was unexpected. Japan is literally on the other side of the world in brazilian's perspective. Thank you Nick for another great and informative video. Everything I watch about Japan comes with a plesant surprise, cause is such a different culture.
Congratulations for fiding your birds, to climbing all these stairs and not to meet with a bear on the way. We need you guys safe.
Thank you and I'll see you at the next trailhead!

The thing I love most about hiking here especially being that I'm up and on the trails before the sun comes up, is avoiding all those people. That would totally ruin the enjoyment of hiking for me.

Another really interesting video - and quite a contrast to the off-trail scrambles that got me hooked on you channel. Well done.

Fascinating to see the temple, and looked like a very pleasant hike to me. The restaurant at the summit reminded me of the European Alps :-)

Thanks for sharing although it seemed a little odd without Jen. Compared to the PNW, Japan wan't very impressive (in my opinion). But, the video was still much appreciated! Keep 'em coming!

Is there a WTA-like resource for Japan you've used (in English or Japanese)? I've only hiked a portion of Nakasendo and then Kumanokodo on Kii Penincula that both have separate guides online, but I'm wondering about picking up hikes in Japan the way I would in Seattle through WTA.

Everything I hiked in Japan came from blog posts in the regions. I have stumbled onto some hiking type sites, but they are all in Japanese and not easily translated.
