Terry Kath is one of my top 5 guitarists. I remember the day he died like yesterday. Terry was the Heart and soul of Chicago while Peter Citera was the voice. RIP Terry Kath.
Had a good friend in high school we had just graduated. I had known him since grade school. He always preach gun safety and it was the unloaded gun that he killed his self with. I guess I should say he thought it was unloaded.😟
He definitely was careless with his firearms, I remember the day we heard this terribly sad news. He was such a great guitarist and vocalist, and he's one that's continually always haunted me, as I'm sure it has all of his band members, I was 25 when hearing the bad news, I'm now 68, loved his guitar solos, and singing, now I'm wishing this senseless tragedy had never happened. 😢
Anyone can "play" a guitar, but only those who have mastered the ability to pour their heart and soul into the instrument, can be called a "guitar player." For many, a hardcore life is inevitable to mentally achieve becoming a bonafide "guitar player." RIP Terry Kath
The person that was with Terry when he died was my friend from the age of twelve and later boyfriend. He was a roadie, keyboard and sound specialist for Chicago. It messed him up. His name was Donny Johnson. Sadly, he died in Feb of 03 at the age of 49. His best friend, Doug Nelson, who I grew up next door to, died in 99. He was Jonny Lang's base player. May all three RIP.
When you said 25 or 6 to 4 I got goose bumps. We wore out our single 45 record of that. It turned white, we played it so much. RIP Terry. 31 was so young.😢
@@lotstodo I think my sister still has some of our 45s. We bought them used from the jukebox guy, for 10 cents each. New ones were $1.00, so we rarely bought those. I have to go find 25 or 6 to 4 on youtube now. 😂
Kath would of been a guitar god if he chose to go solo but he chose to be a team player. His guitar playing is incredible. And ..What a freaking voice!!
@@EdCollects No doubt he was a smokin' guitar player. He would f'n jam with that wah pedal man. I watch that 25 or 6 to 4 every once in awhile because those solos are so frickin' tasty! 🫡 🙌🏻 🫶🤝
So horrible. Sorry to hear that. A bullet missed my head by a few inches one time. A friend of mine thought there were no bullets in it, pointed it at my head, moved an inch and pulled the trigger.
Your so right. And it was just a couple years ago I was up early on a beautiful Saturday morning drinking coffee and did a couple one hits and that video came up on my Playlist. His solo just floored me it was so damn good and clean.
Loved by millions accidents happen to the best of us 100 % sure he's in Rock and Roll Heaven is family must be still proud they'll talk about him for generations to come a true gift that only comes by once in a lifetime
I was heartbroken when the news came out of Terry Kath's death. Chicago was my favorite band in the late 60s and 70s. He really was one of the most gifted guitar players! I got to see Chicago in concert before Terry's death, and I was mesmerized watching him play. I miss you, guitar god!
You need to watch Chicago live at Tanglewood in Massachusetts from 1970,that concert is one of the best performances ever and Terrys best version of 25 or 6 to 4, not to mention Peter Cetera on vocals and bass
I have always been saddened when hearing this, i was 25 yrs old when i heard the sad news about Terry Kath, believe he sang Colour My World, and played the guitar so well, a Great Guitarist, will always be missed, Rest In Peace. 😢
According to someone nearby when Terry pulled the trigger, a look of realization came over Terry's face. He lived just long enough to realize what he'd done to himself. Sooo sad.
I just watched video of 25 or 6 to 4 and I couldn’t believe the guitar playing by Terry Kath 💯, he was very underrated!!!!! I can’t believe the way he died at only 31 years of age, what a freak accident, RIP TERRY 😢😢😢😢
Such a shame, Dude was so talented. I don't think he had really even scraped the surface of how far he could have gone. And that's saying a lot because Chicago was an excellent band. Really sad that so many greats are taken from this world too soon due to drugs.
I remember this but only too well! I was in college at music school when I got word about the accident! There were two other classmates that really loved the band and we all were pretty shaking for awhile! Later Donnie Dackus became Terry's replacement. But Terry was one of a kind! I have his autograph by the way, and Walter's too! Where has time gone! Those were the dsys.....😊
I went to a Chicago concert at blossom in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and I was always so blown away and impressed by the guitar players in the band one of the tightest bands group I’ve ever heard so this explanation and backstory really interested me the comments what Hendrix said amazing rest in peace Terry he was truly amazing😢
I've been looking at his gear. Trying to figure out what he was using for amplification. And the best that I can tell... Well, I can't. I have no idea what that guy was using for an amplifier. Whatever it is, is definitely as unique as he was. And probably the cleanest thing we've ever heard. If you watch the Tanglewood, performance, in order to achieve distortion, he's just rolling up the volume knob on his guitar. And that's not very often. That dude was a very clean player. That guitar tone is crystal. Myself, and many other guitar players are looking at that guy and wondering.... How the hell did he do that?
I agree with those who say Terry is the most underrated guitarist of all time. I have read my fair share of “ Experts ratings of the Top 50, Top 100 guitarists of all time and nowhere do you see Terry Kath. I guess they’re saying don’t believe your lying ears and eyes. I think some journalist should call these reviews out for not including him.
My favorite guitarist. Hard to say who was/is "best". Terry is certainly high on the list of candidates. First 3 Chicago LPs and the Carnegie Hall sets were full of guitar solos like nobody else. The rest of them focused less on his musicianship, more on making radio hits, but there were still more than a few magic guitar moments on every album.
My favorite song by Chicago is happy man and I always wondered if Terry Kath was the singer on that😮 I'm still not sure who sang that song but it's absolutely beautiful😊
Terry’s death exactly shows why gun safety should be a required course to purchase a gun . His ignorance of how the gun worked clearly was the biggest factor in his death . He was casually waving it with the clip out and when a buddy protested his cavalier attitude about it he pointed it at himself to prove it couldn’t hurt anyone . He was wrong and had been waving about a loaded pistol . A tragedy that could have been avoided with a little knowledge . Before this happened I might have made the same assumption he did .
Terry Kath is one of my top 5 guitarists. I remember the day he died like yesterday. Terry was the Heart and soul of Chicago while Peter Citera was the voice. RIP Terry Kath.
👊👊🙏🙏 Yeah, he was amazing
I cried
No kidding. Tragic
One of the greatest guitar players I mean you know if Hendrix finds you amazing well then 😮
Always respect firearms.
Always respect alcohol🎉
Tell that to Alec Baldwin.
Had a good friend in high school we had just graduated. I had known him since grade school. He always preach gun safety and it was the unloaded gun that he killed his self with. I guess I should say he thought it was unloaded.😟
Terry didn't have to die so young was was it alcohol intoxication a death wish or just being stupid because in the end he wasted his life
He definitely was careless with his firearms, I remember the day we heard this terribly sad news. Tragic beyond mere words 😢. Brilliant musician, RIP Terry Kath🖤

How horrible for the person who witnessed this! R.I.P
I bet the poor guy still has night mares to this day. Very sad.
😔😔👊🙏
It wasn't just ONE person who witnessed it. He was in a room of people at a party sitting on a couch.

Terry Kath died on January, 23 1978 at the age of only 31.....R.I.P. Terry......
I remember the day he passed away. Devastating loss. With Terry Kath, Chicago couldn’t have been greater.
Terry Kath and Peter Cetera on Chicago’s ‘Dialogue, Pts. 1 & 2’ is excellent.
It's a shame. He was a great guitarist, song writer, and singer. Alcohol and guns do not mix.
Such a talented musician and an innovative experimenter with the guitar. A good guy. RIP Terry, cheers. ☀️
I had a cousin who accidentally killed himself. He was showing his friends his Dad's gun, and it went off. He was only 14.
So horrible. Sorry to hear that. A bullet missed my head by a few inches one time. A friend of mine thought there were no bullets in it, pointed it at my head, moved an inch and pulled the trigger.
@@EdCollects Unbelievable. Did you kick his ass?
@@MikeysMorgue he was a really good friend of mine. Everyone says I should have. He was drunk and stoned.

I'm sorry for your loss, unfortunately accidents do happen and its sad.
May the Lord have mercy upon his soul, and may the perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. ✝️🙏
People that treat guns like toys, I will never understand.
Really fast guitarist and had a pretty good voice too. Watch any live Chicago performance from the 70’s.
Yeah I think he was great. What a shame what happened to him.
LOL PRETTY GOOD VOICE??...DUDE HAD AN AMAZING ICONIC VOICE!
Damn! Don't tempt fate! 😮

I always thought that that solo in 35 or 6 - 2 -4 was one of the best ever but never got the recognition it deserves.
