Billed as a German BAND OF BROTHERS, the blockbuster miniseries Generation War vividly depicts the lives of five young German friends forced to navigate the unconscionable moral compromises of life under Hitler. Level-headed, highly decorated officer Wilhelm (Volker Bruch) goes off to the eastern front with his sensitive younger brother Friedhelm (Tom Schilling). Deeply in love with Wilhelm is Charlotte (Miriam Stein), a young nurse who looks forward to serving in the Red Cross. Greta (Katherina Schüttler) is a talented singer who longs to become another Marlene Dietrich, while her Jewish boyfriend Viktor (Ludwig Trepte) fights for his life while hiding among members of the Polish Resistance.
Through extraordinary performances, these five exceptional young German actors fill their archetypal characters with the certainty of youth, and then allow it to drain away slowly with each successive month of war. Valor, courage, and betrayal come to the fore in this powerful German epic that shows the everyday realities of wartime life from a deeply personal perspective. German critics have been nearly universal in their praise, with Der Spiegel calling Generation War a "turning point in German television" and a review in national newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung describing the film as "the first and last chance .. to ask our grandparents about their true biographies, their immoral compromises...the missed chances to act."

Классный фильм, классная игра актёров, очень жаль Фридхельма, война из романтика сделала его "машиной для убийства", идеальным солдатом....

i just find it hard to believe that anything remotely close to what is portrayed in this scene has ever occurred in germany after nazi took over. It's too fairytale. Band of brothers: Real Events

You find it hard to believe teenagers were teenagers back then? I mean at the end of the day the Germans were people too. Fighting for their country and believes. Just as it’s always goes in war.

Its hard to believe that German citizens were partying and having fun during a war that they believed they had already won?

@Flare hacksaw ridge is fairly realistic besides the sergeant’s unreal amount of ammo in his magazine. Dunkirk has good dogfight scenes but not realistic beach scenes

First of all your comment is complete rubbish lol secondly I actually enjoy German war films more because they tend to not glorify or in any way romanticize war as a fairly tale story of good vs evil, band of brothers is good but most American war films see war in a shallow often own sided point if view that pits America as “the good guys.” You wanna know the truth about war? It’s pointless, it’s futile and it destroys lives as this beautifully done series tragically shows. There are no good guys, war is hell for everybody.

@@greenlime1997 in 1935 Nuremberg laws came to effect. 1938: Kristallnacht. Scene of this movie is probably in 1941 right before invasion of Russia. Do you think in 41 nazi germany, you would find nazi soldiers partying with a Jewish man while listening to jazz? By the way jazz was banned in nazi germany
