I'm always glad to see people discover this band. They are fantastic! You will have a lot of fun exploring their song list. It's all great, you can't go wrong.
FYI, Namahage (pronounced Na-Ma-Ha-Geh) is about a traditional winter festival in northern Japan in which mountain ogres come down into villages to make sure everyone is behaving well and doing what they're supposed to do. Men dressed up as the ogres go from house to house, roaring like the guys do in the song, and they interrogate everyone in each house with those traditional questions - Are there any loafers here? Are there any crybabies here? At least a few times, they'll make like they're going to carry a little kid off to a fate worse than death. It's basically a holiday for scaring kids into hysterical crying, as everyone enjoys doing.

Ningen Isu translates as "The Human Chair", which is the title of a weird short Japanese story written in 1924. Their main influence is Black Sabbath. Great job! :)

I've got no idea what you've stumbled into here, getting some real old primal 1972 Black Sabbath vibes.
    Its the raw, unfiltered nature.
This stuff lives on the edge of humanity... kinda like : one of the places we all have in us, but 'hey, don't look there. You might not like to see what is staring back at you, in the mirror'.
WHOA !! Dude I guess we think the same. You just mentioned Sabbath, too.
Sorry I dont have any other songs to recommend by this band, since you're introducing them to me.
Really interesting how the bass and guitarist are dressed up in a robe/sandal esthetic, and the drummer is just rocking out in a t-shirt and jeans.
WAY bitd I worked with a guy who taught himself Japanese (from flash cards) but he always said he just knows the words, but in Japanese the meaning is often hidden in tradition or in an underlying story that everyone except outsiders knows. I would love to understand the underlying story in this one.
Yer gettin into some next-level stuff.
Thanks for sharing that. Really goes to show there are interesting musical subcultures everywhere, just waiting to be uncovered.

@@swnwn2396 Thank you. Yep, there is quite a bit of tradition in this one... and the band seems to be playing to the old-school interpretation/role of the New Years Namahage.
I have no rice cakes to offer. Probably condemns me to a year of bad luck, or some such.

Agreed this band really surprised with how well they played and the fact I got so many vibes out of it! It’s definitely a group we are going to revisit. I am glad we have started getting suggestions outside of what we normally hear. We have heard so many great bands we would have never had the chance to hear! Thanks for the comment and rocking with us! 🤘🏻

Good job on the band pronunciation, although the song name is like "nah-mah-hah-geh" for this one. You guys need to check out "Heartless Scat" from them next :) They released their 23rd album last year.. and honestly.. I've not heard a bad song from them yet!

I have a few favorites from these guys. Toshishun off of their last album is pretty good. (The version with the English subtitles:) czcams.com/video/tKSjWKDSBmo/video.html
I also like this super-doomy live performance of the Lovecraft-inspired At the Mountains of Madness: czcams.com/video/DgTEKoYhAXg/video.html
There's a lot of music from this band you can dive into with 22-23 albums out there. Soooo much good stuff. Some differences in sound through the eras but all definitely Ningen Isu...

They are often called the Japanese Black Sabbath for a reason. They've been at it for 30+ years, 20+ albums. You could spend all of 2022 just getting to know them. As others have mentioned, Heartless Scat is another good video for a reaction. Others you might consider include Toshishun (their most recent, look for the English lyric version on their channel), and The Colour out of Space (inspired by the HP Lovecraft story).
