  • Been a rough deer season. I have done some filming. Will release some kind of mash up. But not always about the harvest, it’s about being in and with nature. Did a time lapse of the sunrise from the stand this am

Nice!! Sunrise is my favorite part of the day. No matter if it's in the mountains or my backyard with a coffee. A quick little hunting story involving my granddaughter. She has a cow elk tag. She and my son in law was out last weekend. He said the elk had taken to the dark timber, making it even more difficult. Three elk appeared, he said maybe around 75 yards, broadside, yet through the timber, making identifying the sex tough. He said my granddaughter brought her rifle up, clicked the safety, but didn't take the shot. Saftied her rifle, and brought it down. Son in law asked her what was going on, and he said she simply told him, "I'm not sure dad". She never had a good sight on their heads. Man was I proud of her, not to mention how proud my son in law was. She has taken two elk and a muley over the past three years. He said he was much prouder of her for not taking the shot than he was of the ones she took. They kept those three elk in sight, he said, for quite a while, until they broke out into a meadow out of her range. Three cows. He said she was ok with it. Guys don't like to brag on their sons in law too much, but he has done a great job with his kids. Take it easy my friend. Roger

That’s awesome brother. She is an ethical hunter and sounds very accomplished. You must be so proud. My son was out with me this fall on a whitetail deer hunt and wanted his first deer. A young be deer came out and my son made the decision to hold off as he knew it was young. He wasn’t looking for a trophy. It’s not about the harvest, it’s about the memories. Cheers as always

@@BlueSea_72 I love that. I hope you will be with your son when he gets his first deer. What a moment that will be. There are so many emotions, for me anyway, that go along with the harvest of an animal. You know, if I ever get to the point that I'm not affected in some way, I believe it will be time to hang up the old smoke pole. I was one of a group of five Hunter Education Instructors here in Colorado through the late 80's into the early 90's. We constantly stressed, it's not about the kill, but all about the hunt. Take it easy my friend. Be safe. Roger
