Salil chaudhary a stalwart of indian music only comparable to Madan Mohan, S.D Burman and Naushad once said Kishore is no singer. But he regretted for not having kishore for Anand because of differences between Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Kishore Da. By the time he recorded koi hota jisko apna for Mere apne he was litterally crying seeing Kishore croon the song in his music. Once kishore finished singing Salil da literally jump at Kishore and hugged him and said sorry Kishore I was so wrong I may not have let you sing the most of my songs which I will forever regret but I would let you know today that you are the best singer I have ever seen in my entire career. After listening this Kishore got teary eyes and hugged him back.

Obviously all would choose Kishore Kumar's version, as 99% would never have heard Mohd.Rafi's version. Also, the old version's recording quality available is not very good. Again, Jewel Thief was a big hit with all songs being very popular. Burman dada made many changes in the music score compared to the older version. One question comes to my mind as to why didn't he go with the older version and not have to pay to new singer and incur all other associated expenses. As it is, he did use Rafi Sahab in JT for one song. Maybe because of RD's preferences.
