  • If you have a laser cutter controller with the RDWorks software it is easy to calibrate the stepper motors so it cuts lengths accurately.
    here is the procedure for measuring and applying the settings to the machine.

    great vid. Had to replace the stepper motor recently and do this.I will add the longer the lines the greater the accuracy. Across the whole table width and height if possible.

    This is the very first thing you need to do upon receiving your cutter. This should be done at the factory of course, but they never do it.

    Is there a way to calibrate or scale the PWM output to the laser power supply? on my machine a setting of 40% power is near max output (Ma) to the tube. i would like 100% output to be 100% Ma to the tube.

    Great tutorial, thank you! Do you or anyone else have a tutorial on calibrating the XY perpendicular trueness? I think my XY might be off a slight degree. I'm wondering what the best way of measuring and effectively correcting it without making it much worse. lol

      @zeoxbg Před 5 lety

      I usually do it manually. Draw the largest square that you can, then measure and compare it's diagonals. If they are not equal, adjust manually the left or right base of the gantry (of the Y axis). That can be done when there is no power supplied to the stepper motors.

    good afternoon, have a video explaining how to calibrate the steps of the x and y motors, as I cut a ruler on the 30 cm corelLaser, however when cutting, I found that the cut size was 31.7 cm.
    I have only been working with the co2 laser for a month, can I use this procedure with RDworks, to fix my problem, since I use CorelLaser.?

    Hello - I have tried this very helpful procedure multiple times for my x/y axis. I've used clean versions of V8.18 all the way up to v.30. It's not the software or there is some other area to put in values. The 100x100 square will hold its x axis lines, but the y axis are always 158. It will not draw a square. Because of this step inconsistently all of my work gets distorted now and until this is resolved no work can be accomplished. It's a critical matter if anyone has a suggestion? It it the stepper motor? Limit switch? It's hard to believe it's mechanical because it is the exact 158mm measurement across the board with all versions of RDWorks.
    I need some assisrance.

      @makestuffnow  Před 6 lety

      You need to do a 'read' first before you can do a write. Button will be grayed out until then.

    Hi mate, what kind of thickness of Acrylic will a 50 ebay laser cut through cleanly?. im looking to cut 5 and 6mm thick, woukd i require a higher wattage cutter for this?

    • @stephenmartin8959
      @stephenmartin8959 Před 7 lety

      50W cutter will do 6mm in a single pass easily.
      You can also easily cute up to 10mm, with 2 passes, and still get a decent finish.

    Great video. My lines are perfectly accurate but they are not 90° at the corner. In other words it seems to be off square :-/ Any ideas?

    • @makestuffnow
      @makestuffnow  Před 5 lety

      2 mechanical reasons this could happen are 1) The movable rail is not squared but twisted at an angle a bit, 2) The work table is not level, opposite corners might be tilted at slightly different heights.
      Both can be checked easily with a square. Tilted table is most likey and can be fixed easily as I show in another video. If the rail itself is crooked you will need to figure out how to straighten it. Ive never had to do that.

      @@makestuffnow thanks so much for your advice as it's confirmed my suspicions. Although, I was hoping I'd not need to dismantle the machine. I've checked and the 2 side Y gantries seem to splay slightly rather than run parallel. Looks like a pig of a dismantle and adjustment job :-/ but thanks again for your help, really appreciate the insight.

    without seeming completely stupid ...what is RDWorks Software?

    • @makestuffnow
      @makestuffnow  Před 5 lety

      RDWorks is the software for running machines using the Ruida brand controller boards. These are the more common controllers in the 50W+ chinese machines sold on ebay/aliexpress.
      Different controllers will have different software but there will be an equivalent to these settings somewhere. You just need to search through the settings to find where it is.

      @@JamesTrimble I haven't turned on my machine in 8 months. What I need to do will take extreme patience, massive research online, and recalibration back to the factory settings with the latest software and manipulating the hardware.
