When I was in grade 12 I was listening to Tune Yards and my white teacher asked what that was. I told her it was an Indie Band and she thought I meant Indian (cause I'm West Indian??)

To be fair, my best friend is indian and I told her one day that I was listening to indie music, and she thought I meant indian music LOL. I had to clear it up with her a few weeks later on what I actually meant haha
Dakota Bongers uhm to be fair, maybe your Indian friend thought you said ‘Hindi’ band instead of Indie since non-native speakers like you pronounce Hindi the same way as Indie (with an unnecessary emphasis on the ‘d’).
Haha, someone asked me the same thing and thought I said Hindi when I meant indie. And yes, non natives don't understand the Hindi D! It's not a hard sound like in English. It's so interesting to find an Indian indie band now lol, just to come full circle.

+Rohith Prasad: Sorry to disappoint you, but there is a quite a bit of jazz, blues and indie happening all around. If you're looking for them that is. There are post rock bands and mathcore bands, acoustic duos, prog rock and a hell of a lot more.
