A quick look at my train room where Lakeside is housed 07-03-2017

  • I have had several people ask me to do an overview of the layout and the train room recently and so having had a massive tidy up from doing recent projects I thought that this would be an ideal time to do this video. Hopefully it will give all my new subscribers an idea of what the train room is like and where it is placed. .......Graham

    Have to add ,I get so jealous of folk like yourself Graham who manage to keep everything neat and tidy and everything in its place. I tend to have to go round evry so often and do a big tidy up as I am quite messy and unorganised . Thanks for showing us around the train room. Sometimes take for granted on CZcams and forget just how good and how well done your layout actually is.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  Před 7 lety +1

      Don't need to be jealous Alan, if you had seen it a few days before it was covered in flock, glue and everything you can think of!! It's not always as tidy as that and like you, I have to go round and have a tidy up which is what happened here - a tidy up and so a video! ;-) ..........Graham

      Exactly right and that was my thinking too plus I had quite a few people asking me to make video like this so it seemed the logical thing to do, I must admit that I didn't expect to get such a great response from it like I have had but that's good, at least it proves that it had enough interest in it which I doubted it would have initially. Thank you Jennifer and sorry for the late reply, The light colour carpet seemed a good idea at the time (like a lot of things! lol) but it was chosen when the room was a stop-over room so seemed ok then, but with it now being my train room and my hob-nailed boots tramping all over it during the winter then it does take a bit of a hammering. Never mind, nothing a good carpet cleaner will sort out. ;-) .......Graham

    All I can say is "How the 'h - ll ' do you manage to keep it so clean, tidy. dust free etc. etc. etc. ?" I appreciate you are blessed with good knees and I presume back, legs & hips etc. . I wish I was ( currently in the 81st year in 2022 , still slowly getting bits done and added to my layout. Frustrated at times, annoyed with myself at others, but I would not be without the challenge and enjoyment all aspects of deisign, construction, problem sorting etc. etc. the hobby provides. . Well done Graham, . I think I shall now go and have a tidy up and dust around. Regards Jim R

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  Před 2 lety

      Hi Jim and thank you for the kind comment. I’m 73 this year (2022) and I’m lucky in that I don’t really suffer from anything to stop me enjoying the hobby and crawling around under baseboards etc, how long that will continue I don’t know but I guess there will be a time with the on-set of old age kicks in and I will have to have a rethink. This video is now 5 years ago and the layout you see is no longer in existence and has been replaced with a totally new layout which I think works better for me. I guess I should do another video like this but with the new layout. The room and the layout keeps itself pretty much clean by itself as I have had air conditioning installed and that really helps to keep it dust free and of course keeps the air dry so stock and track keeps very dry from condensation during the winter months. Cheers for now my friend. ………….Graham

    What a dream space for a layout to build in and thank you for the tour around and seeing new views of your layout. There are a lot of shots I could point out that I liked, one being the lift out Manor House section. Seeing your childhood rolling stock, and after watching your other videos in random order, the progression the layout has gone thru.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi John and sorry for the delay but we have been away for a couple of days. Yes the lift out Manor House is going to come in useful at a later stage as I will build an alternative to the Manor House which will be something quite different and will put a completely different slant and feel to the layout when in position, I can swap them out whenever I want to depending on what I want the set to look like on any given day. Neat eh! ;-) ............Graham

    Really interesting to see the whole room in context to the building itself Graham. I often say to my wife if I had a loo and a fridge I could spend a lot longer up in the loft so love your loo up there. I also like your organised storage as I am a bit fanatical about that, not that you would ever know as my loft always looks a mess. I am just in the middle of trying to sort it out now I have a lot less 'stuff' to store, just bigger boxes with the new 0 gauge set up.

    I've been following along since the early days Graham and have always admired your skill and workmanship. It's a great layout for such a small space. You have had many ups and downs during construction but as always these things are trivial when you look at the end result. Congratulations on your progress from the kitchen floor to the empire upstairs. Cheers from Aust (now entering Autumn). P.S. What a great rotating sculpture in your garden.

      Cheers Richard and yes, you are one of my long standing subscribers and I thank you for sticking by me, that is really appreciated mate. A lot has happened over those nearly four years ago, the ups and downs but it's all been worth it. I love this hobby and I'm having a ball and really enjoying myself in my retirement years. I saw that rotating gizmo in a garden centre and knew exactly where it would go and just had to have it, it has a very subtle solar powered light in the centre which slowly changes colour in the darkness of night and looks ver effective - love it. Yes with spring just starting for us here then you must be entering autumn over there, at least the heat will now be subsiding for you which must be a bit of a relief. ..........Graham

    Great video tour of the layout. You sure do have a crazy amount of rolling stock. I couldn't throw out my childhood trains. I changed the wheels and couplers so I have around 25 pieces of rolling stock. I also have a few locos but they don't run. You can't get motors for the old Tyco but I did hear of a hack with computer CD drives using the motors from them.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  Před 7 lety

      I have changed the wheels and converted one of them to DCC Scott but all the rest are as they were and completely stock. The CD drives seem to work ok from what I have seen but I would only do that to the 'newer' old locos I have - not the ones from my childhood. ...........Graham

The train room is a lovely place to be especially since having the air con fitted, it means that I’m comfortable the whole year through no matter what the weather, probably the most important thing I did to the room was having that fitted as it keeps all my stock in great condition.
