    Graham, That looks nice and functional and like all storage yards quite sparce. I'll take with a pinch of salt the not going to be pretty statement! Seen you in action. Look forward to viewing your progress. Regards Stephen.

      @GrahamFoulston  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes Stephen, I guess over a period of time then I may ‘pretty’ it up but for now then as long as it’s functional then that’s all I’m after at this stage although I may make the shed and surrounding area look a bit more realistic. Cheers for now mate. ………..Graham

      Hi Peter and thanks for the comment, this space is far better put to use as a storage yard than the container yard, it’s going to help me a lot now by not having to fumble with those horrid couplings each time I want to take them off or put them on the track. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

    Looking great, with those two depots, especially the extra long one, it actually does have a touch of prettiness about it, whilst still being functional and doing exactly what is designed for.

      Thank you Ian, I may add a few things on there as time goes by but that’s not my main, immediate concern but you’re right, just adding those two buildings helps it look a little pretty. At the moment then functionality is the name of the game. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ………….Graham

      Indeed Ron and that’s exactly what I’m doing and I don’t pretend it to be otherwise. If folk want to make their layout prototypical or parts thereof then that’s fine by me but that’s not what I want. I have always said that Lakeside is just a big train set and there’s nothing wrong with that as far as I’m concerned. Cheers for now mate. ………….Graham

    Nice layout. I thought you would done a storage area under the main boards like you had on your old layout. That looked great it be good to repeat that on this layout.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  Před 2 lety +1

      Having the storage underneath as per the old layout is not practical with this new layout. Maybe had I thought of it before building this then I could have designed it in but it’s too late for that now. The main problem is that this layout extends from one side of the room to the other whereas the old layout had a walkthrough to one side which makes it a lot easier to have the storage underneath. Difficult to explain (and possibly difficult to imagine if you are not seeing what I’m seeing) but hopefully you get what I mean. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

    I can totally understand your thinking on the storage yard. I curretly have a ridiculously large station with four through platforms but (importantly)m seven bay platforms which will allow for storage along with a depot which allows a further three sidings of storage. I currently have 11 multiple units of Bachmann 350/450 style forming lasses 350, 444, 450 and 707 so I understand the coupling issue and the desire not to mess with it. Add in the new class 158/159s in the fleet and this solution is fully justified. I only started work to ballast etc the depot area over Christmas and has appeared in the background of my lasted video (no.67) but work has stalled because of a problem with my right eye (awaiting surgery. I can't wait to carry on! Keep up the good work. Trusting all is well with you and your family. Paul

    Fabulous Graham' the new area looks like a working situation ' ...and why not have the fiddle yard as a feature instead of underneath or the back of beyond. It it very similar to the Layout of modern York station with the close-to TMD and steamer services, although not as spread out. Yesterday I rode past Newton Heath TMD on the Leeds - Manchester route and this reminds me of that' ...great work and you must have felt great to get to the solution. Take care.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  Před 2 lety

      To be honest Mark, I really don’t know why the rail fraternity have used that word. Prototypical to me is derived from the word Prototype and that to me means the first one off design which will later be put into production with normally modifications to it first or just scrapped. But the rail people seem to have kidnapped it to mean something like the real thing - I just don’t get it and never will. 😳😳. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

    Well, it was a promising idea to have the container yard, but like you said the Crane itself overwhelmed the area in the foreground. This new update for the area you've got planned, will keep your eye level the same as it was without any overpowering scenic items. Plus, if necessary, it will be easier for the hand of God to get at things on the rest of the layout. See you on the next video update about how you are getting on with the TMD. It will also be great to see your turntable working again with the steam stock you have and to see some stunning going on. Just get some wagons out, stun them around to make up some mixed freight trains for your Crosti etc to drag around the mainline tracks.

So much better to not have to keep worrying the connectors of your DMUs etc. Having to worry about being prototypical is so far off my radar. Hi Graham, all looks great, just some questions on practicality.
    1a) you have a folding section for storage does that mean you will use that if you are working on the town for example?
    1b) In which case wouldn’t you have to remove all rolling stock (obviously) and buildings to avoid damage?
    2) if you don’t use the folding ability of the storage section can you still reach over to the back without snagging buildings?

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  Před 2 lety

      Hi Ed and in answer to your questions then 1a) Yes, if I need to get right to the back then the fold down section will be folded down. 1b). Yes, rolling stock would have to be removed it but only rolled onto the existing mainline track, not taken off. I won’t be running anything while I’m working on it. 2). That does not apply. Hope that answers your questions ok. You have to remember that this is not new and I have been working with this since I rebuilt the layout, even when the turntable was operational and it all worked ok. Cheers for now mate. ………….Graham
