This movie came out when I was 7 years old. My teenage sisters were supposed to be taking me to see an animated film in the theatre. When we got to the theater they decided we were watching Cyborg instead. The 80s were a special time!
I went to watch interview with the vampire with my brother but he wasn’t old enough so we instead had to watch little rascals. I was so mad I went into the ladies bathroom not realising and saw a lady and said your in the wrong bathroom but she pointed out I was in the wrong bathroom. When I came out my brother and father laughed at me for going into the wrong bathroom. And little rascals was a shit movie.
the irony is the actor who played the bad guy was a champion surfer so he in fact could swim well
Hahaha that's a great trivia bit
Producer: So we've got 2 million dollars worth of costumes, sets and make up design.
Cannon: But without Mattel and Marvel we've no project.
Producer: We've also got some Tupperware, a pallet of Dura Logs, that extra we had from Breakin' and we're on the verge of bankruptcy.
Cannon: ... we're back in business baby.
The dude who played Fender in this was also in Point Break. He played the role of Warchild, one of the group of thugs who attacked Neo on the beach after his shower.
Boy that takes me back! I love this movie, the villain used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid!
Real talk, it's all in the eyes chico 🥺😳
@@youknowwhoyouare2269 for real chico
Me too . I had a wee bit of trauma remembering how it felt as a kid . So funny the way he laughed at the silly parts movie 😂
If you've never seen Electric Boogaloo, it's a great look at how bonkers Cannon was back then. They were essentially defrauding foreign investors with every movie, selling them on a Spider-Man flick, and using the money to make two or three other movies. The only reason they would get away with it was they would always turn a profit. so when that inevitably started drying up, they started scrambling to get Spider-Man into production. As you can see, that plan backfired big time.
I'm sad missed out on having a Spider-Man movie probably with Van Damme as Peter Parker, Charles Bronson as Uncle Ben, Chuck Norris as Doc Ock, and Billy Drago as Green Goblin (that's just my head cannon)
Oh my, that would be the perfect spiderman movie
Also starring
Dolph Lundgren as Captain America
Steve James as Black Panther
Ricky Berwick as Professor X
Michael Dudikoff as Deadpool
Steven Seagal in a double feature as Kingpin/The Blob
Pat Morita as Mandarin
Ralph Macchio as Iron Fist
Peter Weller as Cyborg
Kurt Russell as Nick Fury
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Hulk
Sigourney Weaver as Spider Woman
Danny Glover as Falcon
Morgan Freeman as James Jonah Jameson
Steven Seagal's wig in a special appearance as Hulk's armpit hair
Bolo Yeung as Aunt May
Erika Eleniak as Mary Jane Watson
USS Missouri as SHIELD Heli Carrier
Sylvester Stallone has a cameo as a statue.

The only thing I remember from this movie is a flashback on a kid holding a barbed wire that is holding his family in a bucket over a well. It's something like that. Been over 30 years since I have watched this.
Great video RedEye!
Yeah, that's the one scene I remember too. I think it has something to do with Fender killing Gibson's family?
One of my favorite Van Damme films. The post apocalyptic setting is great. What I like is the sense of desperation during some of the chase/fight scenes. That sense of both brutal and desperate fight for survival in a dead world instead of "Super Cool Badass" outlaw they captured makes this one a film about "End of Humanity" genre movies I enjoy.
it definitely had an eerie feel and a strong sense of desperation. The synth score throughout really worked well too.
One of my first JCVD. Still holds up. Glad you covered it. JCVD got sued for actually hitting a stuntman in the eye. Those splits in the sewers was awesome.
When JCVD dropped the kill on Dee Snider using his obligatory splits...most triumphant!
my favorite thing about this film is that everyone is named after musical instruments and musical equipment. For reasons.
heavy metal is the law
Lol
Is King Piccolo the leader of that world?
🧟♂️LAWWWWWWW! @@joshuascott3428
Jean-Claude's Bizarre Adventure
1) Fenders outfit was Skelitor MOTU costume.
2) the city scenes were the set of spider man. They just used dark colors.
3) Cannon did not give back Spider man rights. The rights fee’s lapse ( bankruptcy) and went to back to marvel.
4) the main characters are named after guitars fender and Gibson
5) actor fender in real life is a surfer.
6) my facts could be all fake news. B/c reasons.
These are great extra bits!
That Cross scene....JC became the literal JC, he died for our sake, but then resurrected......
and when the cyborg removes her wig.... MJ... is that You??? Hee Hee!
Anyways, keep the content coming!!!
EDIT: I'll be waiting until your Cover on "The Quest" Comes up, It was one of my JCVD favourite, Would love to see your take on that one.
Another interesting fact. Almost all the character names are music related. Fender. Tremolo. Gibson. Marshall. Pearl. Never knew why
Yep, and mostly guitar references
@@talibnunnally1531 i left out Rickenbacker
Ralf Moeller is the guy who got the awesome sewer splits death. He's a training partner of Arnold Schwarzenegger and was the big German warrior in Gladiator.
the best splits scene
6:00 in the morning... Time to go to sleep. Oh what's that notification? Red Eye Reviews posted a JCVD movie review? Okay cool so no sleep for me...
Haha. I gotchyu!
22 years ago I was ready for Church and was waiting for my family to get ready for Church. I turned on the TV. Fought with the bunny ear antenna until a blurry channel tuned in to a Jean Claude Van-Crucifixion. I was mesmerized. Then, we had to go to Church. Now I know that movie. Wow.
I love how JCVD solves his crucifixion in this movie
Please cover Knock Off with JCVD. That one is a classic to me, along with Lionheart and The Quest
The Monty Python bit was brilliant and almost made me spit out my sandwich. Well done, sir!
Lol so glad you liked that one :)
@@RedEyeReviews Great review, hopefully you do "Replicant" with Van Damme. Unless you did xD.
Last time I saw this was back in the '90s. Gotta love the aesthetic. Nowadays, it makes me think of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Borderlands, and Fallout (especially New Vegas).
5:28 / 5:31 Spot the continuity error.
10:27 Gotta wonder what Civvie 11 would think of that.
12:50 What if it fell forward and crushed him?
Hahah I thought the same thing when he falls while ties to the mast.
I swear this is the best movie he's ever made
With bloodsport and kickboxing, of course
08:00
Holy shit!! For a second, I thought JCVD hit the dude so hard that he went flying across the hallway instead of down to the ground lol 😂!!
14:57
Did the Villian just get back up with the power of a Michael Jackson Scream? Lmao!!
In the post-apocalypse, you can still get a perm. Nady, the man JCVD splits to death, the guy the pirates mess with in Waterworld town, Red Hair Pirate Lady, the list goes on.
I'm going to assume that Cyborg Girl has a manufactured perm. I'm not sure what part of her face is attached to that hair, but when she takes off the perm, she takes the pretty with it.
Along those lines, is there a law of Cyborg-botics that requires all Cyborgs to be able to easily remove something to prove they're a Cyborg? It's like that rule where if I ask you if you're a cop, you have to tell me.
Hahaha that's a great point
Dude every review you say one thing that really just has me rolling, he has a small container flashback made me laugh so hard. Fucking great stuff. I hope you do more jcvd movies, they're the best.
Lol thank you! It was so strange that her Tupperware jogged his memory
I love this movie, and it is without a doubt my favorite JCVD movie, Vincent's acting was great for a villian and the music was so great! I just wish there weren't so many flashback scenes of his old life when he lived in the countryside. Great vid and it is always a pleasure rewatching this movie
Please review "The Perfect Weapon" with Jeff Speakman. Speakman was my personal favorite karate action star from that era. Personally I love the Perfect Weapon as much as Bloodsport. By far my two favorite movies from that era. The perfect weapon had an amazing supporting cast
Absolutely!
@@RedEyeReviews Oh, I think he also did one called "Iron and Silk" but I recall that being more serious (docudrama? autobiography? It's been a while).
Bro I am so glad you covered one of the greatest, perhaps the second greatest second only to Bloodsport, Van Damme movie of all time. I’ve gotta say though, kind of disappointed that you glazed over the car door head-bashing scene at the very end, or the gratuitous hand chopping with Natty Ice. But goddamn what a trip down memory lane. Well done sir
Oh the car door slams were great. The entire final fight was so ridiculous
It's the only live theater in town. And jingle bells. Omg.... Too good.
Walking dead guy. And wanna be swimless Aquaman. And that flex off! Lol... And last but not least, the Monty Python piece was PURE GOLD. Geez, like NBA Jam, you're on FIRE! Great work once again
Thanks Carlton! Lol the live theater bit cracked me up. They just look at this lady like they are SO bored
Old school low budget practical effects are still better than most modern day CGI
Maybe that was the best split, but the EPIC split was for the Volvo Trucks commercial.
filmed right near me... I like the pain, I like the misery, I LIKE THIS WORLD!!!
Cyborg: The Scream-Cut!🤣🤣🤣Brilliant Man,brilliant!
I trimmed that down alot lol. It was like 3 minutes at one point
This was a blast from the past.
Awesome as usual. I worked at Blockbuster Video when this was released on vid. We couldn't keep it in stock and had to order additional copies (we did not expect that). It was the first real JCVD movie that clicked with customers and seemed to start the ball rolling for him.
JCVD is a talented martial artist. I love all his movies, from his worst to his best movies.
They should make a action movie with Seagal and Van Damme, I can promise you that it would be beyond realistic. Real blood, real anger and real bruises.
Mr RedEye Reviews, I recommend you Kung Pow : Enter The Fist. If you haven't seen it.
I love that movie! Added to the list
It could have been a thing at Stallone's house in mid 90's. Seagal ran away.
This is my favorite JCVD movie of all time. Loved it as a kid and I still love it as an adult.
Me too
@@colt45jb bloodsport is still on top but this one is the next one right after it
Fantastic movie. the time jumps in the movie are the pirates visiting various locations for supplies. and new pirates. notice when they arrive atlanta. there are new pirates.
Ooooo I'll take that reasoning
That’s right Redeye don’t ask any questions just walk away walk away 😂😂😂😂😂
That's my go to move lol
One of my favorite movies of jean-Claude Van Damme is no where to run some people hate it but I liked it plus I grew up watching his movies like Brandon Lee
1989 was the year my family got the first VCR, and this was one of the first movies we watched. It's forever burned into my memory. The soundscape is amazing. Very unique.
Fantastic, all my beloved old school movies and gritty hand camera work. Thanks mate.
Of course! So glad you like it
That's so interesting that the cyborg is actually the lady. I had random movie clips of this pop up for me on youtube, like the final fight scene. I assumed the pirate leader was the cyborg in some military experiment gone wrong and had no idea the world was post apocalyptic.
God damn, gonna have to talk to my mum about letting me watch this movie when I was a kid. That Cyborg brain reveal has been stuck in my head for years.
A Canon films SpiderMan movie would have been glorious!
One of my favorites. I never realized in the closing fight scene when the camera pans up and around, you can clearly see a dude in fresh, modern clothes on the left side. Still a good representation of post-apocalyptic wasteland though IMO.
Oh my God. I almost messaged you last night. I watched this movie again because it’s free on prime and I haven’t seen it since I was much younger. This is awesome.
Huh...I always assumed the bad guy was a cyborg. I think once I realized everyone is named after guitars and other musical instruments, it told me all I need to know about this movie.
I love the aesthetic of 1980s-1990s post-apocalyptic settings. Architecture is sheet metal industro-punk while the dominant fashion is glam rock, fishnets, and scales. I wasn't born during this time but I've seen a lot of movies that portray this and it's so...captivating.
Also, I personally have experienced being out in the rain in nothing but our underwear and it is NOT comfortable. Sure, for the first 30 mins or so, you're hyped up on adrenaline because you were moving (in my case, we were clearing a collapsed tree and fallen cables from the highway) but after that, your body starts reacting and you start shivering and the cold seeps in and it is not a good time. Not to mention, this was during a typhoon so this wasn't some heavy rain, this was 80mph winds carrying droplets that hit us like pebbles. As to why we were in our underwear? It was the only article of clothing we could risk getting wet because we had no way of doing any laundry (the power was out) and, even if we did, we had no spare clothes to change into. So we dressed down, set aside our dry clothes, and just went in near naked.
Still felt a little awesome though to be out there shirtless in the rain like JCVD...although it got really miserable afterwards.
Haha what a great story.
Yeah, those (that?) sewer splits…that was the money shot 😂🤣😂🤣
And I remember that final fight and the guy just screaming the whole time but not doing anything. I was like, “what is happening?”
You have to do “Double Impact”…JCVD as twin brothers. Such cheesy goodness
Lol so JCVD but in The Parent Trap?! Done and done
Hi Redeye! I once won a costume award at an airsoft event for cosplaying JCVD's tan short pants outfit from Red Scorpion (1988), I really think you should do a review of that movie!
That is amazing! Yes it is on my list :)
This movie is freakin awesome!! I remember a summer in which they had this film on TV like every two or three days and every single time they showed it I was glued on the screen.
Btw, JCVD had the worst timing here...he managed to spend time with his girl and the next day the bad guys were staring at him through the window
One of the greatest martial arts sci-fi revenge movies of all time! Cannon truly delivered. One of JCVD's best.
Ahh, director Albert Pyun, king of 80s-90s C budget action movies. If it's low budget, it's likely him, lol.
Fender Tremolo, Gibson Rickenbacker, Pearl Prophet, Marshal Strat etc... this movie is like a musical intrument catalogue.
2:35 ANSWER : interesting fact , he sounds like hes reading because he is , test screenings found the main movie villians actor unintentionally hilarious when he spoke , so they got another guy to voice over all of his lines. :D and now ya know.
Liked, commented before even started watching. I know it's gonna be great and funny,. I watched and older video and how better you got is unbelievable. Just thought I should let you know that I love ur video's, content. And they always make me laugh and brighten up my day. I have sever anxiety and depression, and you actually make my day much better. So thank you so very much, much love and respect. Thanks buddy.
Aww thank you so much! I've lived with health anxiety my whole life. Gotta love when your own brain betrays you. But movies have Always comforted me. It's a great distraction when you are trying to calm your anxiety. So I GET you :)
No joke, this video has the best reactions section yet! ^_^
Aww thank you!
@@RedEyeReviews Sure thing! :D Thank you for what you do here.
RedEye, I just found your channel about a month ago and I absolutely love it! This weekend I binged the entire Karate Korner: Steven Seagal and goddammit!!! It is the best thing ever! I never laughed so much in a two day period 🤣 I would love to see the 1993 film Surf Ninjas in your next Karate Korner. Keep up the outstanding work in your videos because they have brought some much needed joy into my movie reviews viewing pleasure. Thanks, RedEye!
I'm so glad you are enjoying everything! :)
A ship's Captain who can't swim might be the most dangerous man alive, especially if he's JCVD.
I loved watching the little trailer that they would play on the pay-per-view channels on warner cable back in the days. My mom never ordered it for me so i had to wait to watch it on Showtime, i think, or just rent it at the video store. Gotta love VCR's and those old grey cable boxes!
@6:34, "oh, Buddy...."
LMFAO hahahaha 😆🤣😆🤣
My favourite movie ever! I even watched directors cut!😁
Since I found this channel, I've been waiting for this movie!
JCVD's defining role! xD
I only ever watched other Van Damme movies because of this one.
The flashback to the well was epic. For a surfer that can’t swim, I thought that was a hilarious line by Vincent. Not for nothing, how can pirates not have a boat?! That’s just as believable as Somalians stealing an oil tanker. LOL! >_
The sunglasses guy (Vincent Klyn) also plays "Warchild" from Point Break.
In real life he was a pretty accomplished surfer too.
The Office reference had me laughing so hard no noise was coming out, only exhales. Y'know what I mean? Then it turned into laugh-crying at Monty Python :,)
I'm so glad you liked it all :)
I love your channel, almost all of the movies you review are straight from my childhood. I jumped on board primarily from your Seagal videos (I still maintain his first 5 movies kick ass even if the rest are trash) But now your covering JVCD who I think is the most under rated action hero of the 80s and 90s.
I vote you cover Showdown in Little Tokyo starring Dolph Lundgren, that movie is kick ass and the final fight is actually a fairly realistic sword fight.
It also has one of the weirdest possibly homoerotic lines I have ever heard in an action movie.
So glad you like it!
I have had Dolph requested a Ton. So for sure we will have him on the channel very soon
@@RedEyeReviews Nice! Can't wait. Like I said Check out Showdown In Little Tokyo and The Punisher. Both great!
Heads up to anyone who hasnt got the Shout Factory edition blu ray. You need it and has the reverseable VHS cover art.
this movie is kickass awesome. I love the construction site fight with fishnet guys, it was so awesome when I was a kid and it still feels the same. The running and fighting in the lake was my next favourite moment. It's so intense. First the running, then fighting, then more fighting and all that music pumping you up, it's great stuff man.
love your reviews man, super funny, keep it up!
So glad you like it!

Funky thing is i am old enough to have seen some of these movies when they came out
Specially these films where segal is nico
Unbelievable that there was a time, long ago, when i legit tought these movies where cool
I really like how you provide background info about segals live and what happened on set.
Keep it up
I love these reviews. So, if you're unconscious for more than 30-60 seconds, you've already suffered brain damage. 9:30 obscure magazine runs dry, JCVD throws it away, rather than saving it to reload later...
I absolutely LOVED this movie as a kid. I watched all of JCVD’s movies because of this film. Watching it these days it is a bit of a slog, but I have so much nostalgia for it I can’t help but enjoy it.
Though knowing what I know now about JCVD and him being an asshole during filming, it kinda tarnished my enjoyment.
Exactly
Cyborg is an awesome film. How was JCVD an asshole during filming.
He was on coke and undiagnosed bipolar disorder for years before getting help and getting clean
@@kman215 he wasn't coked out at this point.
@@wantutosigh1117 He would purposefully hit people hard when “sparring” or not pull his punches when filming. He even caused an actor to lose their eye during the filming of Cyborg and lost a lawsuit to that person because it was proven he did it on purpose. Being bipolar and a cokehead is no excuse to cause permanent injury to soMeone.
OMG - Been binging on your videos over the past few days. "Vincent Klyn, who is allowed to talk-like-way too much..." / "...scream & flex..." Too damn funny! 😂 Thank you!
And I just gotta know, because I think my ears are playing tricks on me, did your voice change? Just watched "The Rock (1996) : Comedic Review and Trivia!" (more than once), and you sound totally different. lol.
Thank you so much! So my older videos were on a different microphone. I've upgraded my audio equipment sometime early last year. So hopefully just a higher quality sound
And my man talked about the split!! Not sure how the hell that guy didn’t see him…two feet above his head but I still love it!
Great movie. Made me a JCVD fan for life.
Same here
I saw this as a kid. I'm pretty sure I was deeply confused by the plot. Like, you're right. It's extremely simple. But also felt so sparce and uncanny that I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at lol. But I'm pretty sure the sequel is even more batshit if I remember right!
At least for the sequel they picked a much better looking cyborg. Tony Stark learns from his mistakes, it turns out.
I found this movie wildly entertaining and honestly the I LOVED the post-apocalyptic nature of it. There are a few parts that are funny about it but over all it's a fun film.
After Bloodsport, JCVD became THE hero in the late 80s. The Villain was terrifying... and that split was the coolest moment ever. I remember thinking 'Wait, JCVD isn't a Cyborg? The villain guy is... Wait, HE isn't a Cyborg either?!'
Gotta do Double Impact, man. Worth it for Drunken JCVD Dance-fighting alone 😆
JCVD is not trying to introduce himself n having a stroke, he said 'im gone' as in 'im leaving here now'
JCVD hair was AWESOME in this movie.
The bad guy was so freaky in this. This is a classic action
Didn't realize the big goon was Ralf Moeller, the boss fight from Best of the Best 2.
Oh snap
Interesting fact. A lot of the characters are named after guitars or guitar accessories. JCVD Gibson Rickenbacker, Vincent Klyn=Fender Tremolo, Deborah Richter=Nady Simmons,
Between duraflame city, and small container flash-back, this has become my new favorite!
Haha I'm so glad!
I pretty much remember every scene of this movie perfectly
Seeing it in the theater followed by watching it 30x on various movie channels and VHS in the 90's will do that
The reason a lot of the bad guys wear screen and cover their face is cause they used a lot of the actors in “dual roles” like you said they was broke
Ooo that actually makes sense
Look, the continuity in those chase scenes requires mega big brain. We simply cannot comprehend the genius of this movie.
I came to this channel for the Seagal, I stayed for the Cannon movies.
That's a fantastic point about apocalypses and naming yourself something different...
Next major apocalypse, Pope Van Damme will RISE from the ashes!
Haha right?! No one will check your id
If that was Steven Seagal …. Those pirate guys wouldn’t even last one sec
I can't remember which JCVD movie review of yours I was watching, but you were gushing over his splits yet wondered how it was actually useful; that alley kill immediately popped into my head. Another fun review. 👍
Loving the camera crew reflections in his shades around the 16:13 mark. I wonder if that's why they kept them dirty throughout the rest of the movie.
despite the post apocalyptic scarcity, everyone appears jacked and in great shape and the women, esp JCVD's love interest have salon 'dos, so looks like gyms and hair salons are still open, as well as health stores to buy creatine and some leave-in conditioner for men to keep their locks in place while fighting. No Jean-Claude movie is complete without him being tied half naked in some sort of S&M device and some male looking at him longingly
I always liked the film and probably always will. It stands out in Pyun's filmography imo as one of his best made (together with Nemesis), while still keeping a lot of his trademarks. I watched Pyun's director's cut too btw and while some scenes and ideas are better in his version, some I liked more from the earlier one.
There is a different cut?? Is there any official places to get it or is this a piratebay situation?
JCVD and Sheldon Lettich saved this film in post production by editing it better.
Have you seen these? .. The sword and the Sorcerer, Radioactive dreams and Dollman.
@@godmaentertainment4375 Yes. As far as Pyun is concerned I've seen Alien from L.A., Bloodmatch, Captain America, Cyborg (2 cuts), Dangerously Close, Deceit, Dollman, Down Twisted, Kickboxer 2 & 4 (I've seen all Kickboxer movies, but only these 2 are by Pyun), Nemesis 1-4, Radioactive Dreams, The Sword and the Sorcerer, Ticker and Vicious Lips.
@@Mortiis558 You can buy a Blu-ray (or at least could) easily. Look for the film under the title "Slinger".
And sorry forn answering so late, but yt didn't inform me about your comment :/
Its a Cannon film so its supposed to be a dumb, action flick. However, looking at it again, this is a Kelly Bundy-level of a dumb, action flick. I think when I saw it, I was the perfect age they were going for, a pre-teen boy whose parents let him slide and enjoyed fights, creative kills and some eye candy. This gives us 2 out of 3 but for the budget, we weren't getting the Pamela Anderson of the day!
YES! First JCVD flick I ever saw and still one of my favorites up there with Universal Soldier and Bloodsport 🤘😎
Props on the duraflame reference 😂
The hits keep on coming! Loving every video dude. Keep it up.
JCVD: I'm gun.
Me: Nice to meet ya, sooo do I shake your hand, or that gun in your pants?
Hahaha
